Job 13:6-12
Evangelical Heritage Version
6 But now, listen to my rebuttal.
Pay attention to the arguments from my lips.
7 Will you misrepresent God?[a]
Will you speak deceitfully about him?
8 Will you show favoritism on behalf of God
and argue his case for him?
9 Will it turn out well when he cross-examines you?
Can you fool God as you can fool a man?
10 He will certainly rule against you if you hide your favoritism.
11 Won’t God’s majesty frighten you?
Won’t the dread he inspires overwhelm you?
12 Your axioms are proverbs made of ashes.
Your strong points are made of clay.

6 Please hear my argument,
and listen attentively to the pleadings of my lips.
7 “Will you[a] speak falsely for God?
And will you[b] speak deceitfully for him?
8 Will you[c] show partiality for him?[d]
Or do you[e] want to plead God’s case?
9 Will it be well, if he examines you?[f]
Or can you[g] deceive him like deceiving a human being?
10 “Surely he will rebuke you[h]
if you[i] show partiality[j] in secret.
11 Will not his majesty terrify you,[k]
and his dread fall upon you?[l]
12 Your[m] maxims are proverbs of ashes;
your[n] defenses are defenses of clay.
