Job defiende su integridad
13 He aquí que todas estas cosas han visto mis ojos,
Y oído y entendido mis oídos.
2 Como vosotros lo sabéis, lo sé yo;
No soy menos que vosotros.
3 Mas yo hablaría con el Todopoderoso,
Y querría razonar con Dios.
4 Porque ciertamente vosotros sois fraguadores de mentira;
Sois todos vosotros médicos nulos.
5 Ojalá callarais por completo,
Porque esto os fuera sabiduría.
6 Oíd ahora mi razonamiento,
Y estad atentos a los argumentos de mis labios.
7 ¿Hablaréis iniquidad por Dios?
¿Hablaréis por él engaño?
8 ¿Haréis acepción de personas a su favor?
¿Contenderéis vosotros por Dios?
9 ¿Sería bueno que él os escudriñase?
¿Os burlaréis de él como quien se burla de algún hombre?
10 Él os reprochará de seguro,
Si solapadamente hacéis acepción de personas.
11 De cierto su alteza os habría de espantar,
Y su pavor habría de caer sobre vosotros.
12 Vuestras máximas son refranes de ceniza,
Y vuestros baluartes son baluartes de lodo.
13 Escuchadme, y hablaré yo,
Y que me venga después lo que viniere.
14 ¿Por qué quitaré yo mi carne con mis dientes,
Y tomaré mi vida en mi mano?
15 He aquí, aunque él me matare, en él esperaré;
No obstante, defenderé delante de él mis caminos,
16 Y él mismo será mi salvación,
Porque no entrará en su presencia el impío.
17 Oíd con atención mi razonamiento,
Y mi declaración entre en vuestros oídos.
18 He aquí ahora, si yo expusiere mi causa,
Sé que seré justificado.
19 ¿Quién es el que contenderá conmigo?
Porque si ahora yo callara, moriría.
20 A lo menos dos cosas no hagas conmigo;
Entonces no me esconderé de tu rostro:
21 Aparta de mí tu mano,
Y no me asombre tu terror.
22 Llama luego, y yo responderé;
O yo hablaré, y respóndeme tú.
23 ¿Cuántas iniquidades y pecados tengo yo?
Hazme entender mi transgresión y mi pecado.
24 ¿Por qué escondes tu rostro,
Y me cuentas por tu enemigo?
25 ¿A la hoja arrebatada has de quebrantar,
Y a una paja seca has de perseguir?
26 ¿Por qué escribes contra mí amarguras,
Y me haces cargo de los pecados de mi juventud?
27 Pones además mis pies en el cepo, y observas todos mis caminos,
Trazando un límite para las plantas de mis pies.
28 Y mi cuerpo se va gastando como de carcoma,
Como vestido que roe la polilla.

13 »Con mis propios ojos he visto todo esto,
y lo he oído y entendido con mis oídos.
2 Lo que ustedes saben, también yo lo sé;
en nada soy menos que ustedes.
3 Pero yo quisiera hablar con el Todopoderoso;
me encantaría defenderme ante Dios mismo.
4 Francamente, ustedes son unos embusteros;
como médicos, son unos charlatanes.
5 ¡Cómo quisiera que cerraran la boca!
¡Eso, en ustedes, ya sería sabiduría!
6 Pero les pido que escuchen mis razones,
y que presten atención a mis argumentos.
7 ¿Van a hablar falsedades en nombre de Dios?
¿Van a proferir engaños en su nombre?
8 ¿Van a ponerse de su parte?
¿Se sienten capaces de defenderlo?
9 Y, si él investigara todo lo que ocultan,
¿se burlarían de él, como se burlan de mí?
10 Al contrario, Dios les echaría en cara
que con dolo favorezcan a unos y a otros no.
11 Seguramente su grandeza los llenaría de temor,
y sobre ustedes dejaría caer su pavor.
12 ¡Ustedes citan proverbios sin sustento,
y su defensa se desmorona, como el lodo!
13 »Escuchen lo que tengo que decir;
no importa qué me pueda suceder.
14 ¿Por qué habría yo de hacerme daño,
y atentar contra mi propia vida?
15 Aunque el Señor me mate, yo en él confío;
pero en su cara defenderé mis actos.
16 Esto podría significar mi salvación,
pues Dios no tolera al malvado en su presencia.
17 Presten atención a mis razones;
presten oído a mis declaraciones.
18 Voy a exponerles mi caso,
y sé muy bien que seré justificado.
19 ¿Quién quiere ser la parte acusadora?
Si me hacen callar, aceptaré la muerte.
20 »Dios mío, concédeme dos favores
para que no me esconda de ti:
21 Deja ya de castigarme,
y no sigas infundiéndome terror.
22 Si tú me llamas, yo te responderé;
si yo te llamo, tú tendrás que responderme.
23 ¿Cuál es mi maldad? ¿Cuál es mi pecado?
¡Dime en qué te he ofendido!
24 ¿Por qué me das la espalda?
¿Por qué me consideras tu enemigo?
25 ¿Vas a perseguir a una hoja en el viento?
¿Vas a ir tras la paja seca?
26 ¿Por qué me prescribes tragos amargos
y me imputas los pecados de mi juventud?
27 Me sujetas los pies con cadenas,
me vigilas por dondequiera que voy,
y sigues la huella de mis pasos.
28 Mi cuerpo se desgasta como odre viejo;
¡se deshace como vestido apolillado!»

Job Says His Friends’ Proverbs Are Ashes
13 [Job continued:] “Behold, my eye has seen all this,
My ear has heard and understood it.

“What you know I also know;
I am not inferior to you.
3
“But I wish to speak to [a]the Almighty,
And I desire to argue with God.
4
“But you smear me with lies [you defame my character most untruthfully];
You are all worthless physicians and have no remedy to offer.
5
“Oh, that you would be completely silent,
And that silence would be your wisdom!
6
“Please hear my argument
And listen to the pleadings of my lips.
7
“Will you speak what is unjust for God,
And speak what is deceitful for Him?
8
“Will you show partiality for Him [and be unjust to me so that you may gain favor with Him]?
Will you contend and plead for God?
9
“Will it be well for you when He investigates you [and your tactics against me]?
Or will you deceive Him as one deceives a man?
10
“He will surely reprimand you
If you secretly show partiality.
11
“Will not His majesty terrify you,
And will not the dread of Him fall upon you?
12
“Your memorable sayings are [worthless, merely] proverbs of ashes;
Your defenses are defenses of [crumbling] clay.
Job Is Sure He Will Be Vindicated
13
“Be silent before me so that I may speak;
And let happen to me what may.
14
“Why should I take my flesh in my teeth
And put my life in my hands [incurring the wrath of God]?
15
“Even though He kills me;
I will hope in Him.
Nevertheless, I will argue my ways to His face.
16
“This also will be my salvation,
For a godless man may not come before Him.
17
“Listen diligently to my speech,
And let my declaration fill your ears.
18
“Behold now, I have prepared my case;
I know that I will be vindicated.
19
“Who will argue and contend with me?
For then I would be silent and die.
20
“Only [O Lord,] do not do two things to me,
And then I will not hide myself from Your face:
21
Withdraw Your hand from me and remove this bodily suffering,
And let not the dread of You terrify me.
22
“Then [Lord,] call, and I will answer;
Or let me speak, and then reply to me.
23
“How many are my iniquities and sins [that so much sorrow should come to me]?
Make me recognize and understand my transgression and my sin.(A)
24
“Why do You hide Your face [as if offended]
And consider me Your enemy?
25
“Will You cause a windblown leaf to tremble?
Will You pursue the chaff of the dry stubble?
26
“For You write bitter things against me [in Your indictment]
And make me inherit and suffer for the iniquities of my youth.
27
“You also put my feet in the stocks [as punishment]
And [critically] observe all my paths;
You set a circle and limit around the soles of my feet [which I must not overstep],
28
While I waste away like a rotten thing,
Like a garment that is moth-eaten.

14 Why do I put myself in jeopardy
and take my life in my hands?(V)
15 Though he slay me, yet will I hope(W) in him;(X)
I will surely[a] defend my ways to his face.(Y)
16 Indeed, this will turn out for my deliverance,(Z)

17 Listen carefully to what I say;(AC)
let my words ring in your ears.
18 Now that I have prepared my case,(AD)

19 Can anyone bring charges against me?(AF)

20 “Only grant me these two things, God,
and then I will not hide from you:
21 Withdraw your hand(AI) far from me,
and stop frightening me with your terrors.(AJ)
22 Then summon me and I will answer,(AK)
or let me speak, and you reply to me.(AL)
23 How many wrongs and sins have I committed?(AM)
Show me my offense and my sin.(AN)
24 Why do you hide your face(AO)
and consider me your enemy?(AP)
25 Will you torment(AQ) a windblown leaf?(AR)
Will you chase(AS) after dry chaff?(AT)
26 For you write down bitter things against me
and make me reap the sins of my youth.(AU)
27 You fasten my feet in shackles;(AV)
you keep close watch on all my paths(AW)
by putting marks on the soles of my feet.
