13 »Todo esto lo han visto mis ojos;
lo han escuchado y entendido mis oídos.
2 Yo tengo tanto conocimiento como vosotros;
en nada siento que me aventajéis.
3 Más bien quisiera hablar con el Todopoderoso;
me gustaría discutir mi caso con Dios.
4 Porque vosotros sois unos incriminadores;[a]
¡como médicos no valéis nada!
5 ¡Si tan solo os callaseis la boca!
Eso, en vosotros, ¡ya sería sabiduría!
6 Ahora os toca escuchar mi defensa;
prestad atención a mi alegato.
7 ¿Os atreveréis a mentir en nombre de Dios?
¿Argumentaréis en su favor con engaños?
8 ¿Le haréis el favor de defenderlo?
¿Vais a resultar sus abogados defensores?
9 ¿Qué pasaría si él os examinara?
¿Podríais engañarlo como se engaña a la gente?
10 Lo más seguro es que él os reprendería
si en secreto os mostraseis parciales.
11 ¿Acaso no os infundiría miedo su esplendor?
¿Y no caería sobre vosotros su terror?
12 ¡Habéis memorizado proverbios sin sentido!
¡Os defendéis con apologías endebles!
13 »¡Callad la boca y dejadme hablar,
y que suceda lo que tenga que suceder!
14 ¿Por qué me pongo en peligro
y me juego el pellejo?
15 ¡Que me mate! ¡Ya no tengo esperanza![b]
Pero en su propia cara defenderé mi conducta.
16 En esto radica mi liberación:
en que ningún impío comparecería ante él.
17 »Prestad atención a mis palabras;
prestad oído a lo que digo:
18 Ved que ya he preparado mi defensa,
y sé muy bien que seré declarado inocente.
19 ¿Hay quien pueda presentar cargos contra mí?
Si lo hay, me quedaré callado hasta morir.
20 »Concédeme, oh Dios, solo dos cosas,
y no tendré que esconderme de ti:
21 Para ya de castigarme
y deja de infundirme temor.
22 Llámame a comparecer y te responderé;
o déjame hablar y contéstame.
23 Enumera mis iniquidades y pecados;
hazme ver mis transgresiones y ofensas.
24 ¿Por qué me evitas?
¿Por qué me tienes por enemigo?
25 ¿Asustarás a una hoja arrebatada por el viento?
¿Perseguirás a la paja seca?
26 Has dictado contra mí penas amargas;
me estás haciendo pagar por[c] los pecados de mi juventud.
27 Me has puesto cadenas en los pies;
vigilas todos mis pasos;
¡examinas las huellas que dejo al caminar!

yo mismo lo he visto y oído.
2 Creo saber tanto como ustedes;
no creo que sean mejores que yo.
3 Pero yo preferiría discutir mi caso
con el Dios todopoderoso,
4 porque ustedes son unos mentirosos;
¡sus consejos no ayudan en nada!
5 ¡Si se callaran la boca,
mostrarían algo de sabiduría!
6 »Por favor, escúchenme;
pongan atención a mis palabras:
7 ¿Van a mentir en nombre de Dios,
y a tratar de defenderlo con engaños?
8 ¿Acaso creen que le hacen un favor
actuando como sus abogados defensores?
9 Si Dios los examinara a ustedes,
no podrían engañarlo
como engañan a la gente.
10 Más bien, Dios los reprendería
si quisieran defenderlo con mentiras;
11 ¡es tan grande su poder
que los haría temblar de miedo!
12 »Las explicaciones de ustedes
han perdido su sentido,
y no sirven para nada.
13 »Mejor cállense, y déjenme hablar,
no importa lo que me pase.
14-15 Voy a defenderme ante Dios,
aunque él quiera matarme;
voy a jugarme la vida,
pues no tengo nada que perder.
16 Ningún malvado se atrevería
a presentarse ante él,
así que él mismo me salvará.
17 »¡Préstenme atención!
18 Ya he preparado mi defensa,
y sé que Dios reconocerá mi inocencia.
19 Si alguien puede acusarme de algo,
yo callaré y jamás volveré a hablar.
20 »Dios mío,
sólo te pido dos cosas;
si me las concedes,
no tendré que esconderme de ti.
21 ¡Ya no me castigues,
ni me hagas sentir tanto miedo!
22 Pídeme que presente mi defensa,
y yo te responderé;
si lo prefieres, yo hablaré primero,
y tú me responderás.
23 ¡Dime en qué te he faltado!
¡Muéstrame en qué te he ofendido!
24 ¿Por qué te escondes?
¿Por qué me tienes por enemigo?
25 ¿Por qué me persigues tanto,
si soy como una hoja
que se lleva el viento?
26 Me estás condenando
a un amargo sufrimiento;
¡me estás castigando

my ears have heard and understood it.
2 What you know, I also know;
I am not inferior to you.(B)
3 But I desire to speak to the Almighty(C)
and to argue my case with God.(D)
4 You, however, smear me with lies;(E)
you are worthless physicians,(F) all of you!(G)
5 If only you would be altogether silent!(H)
For you, that would be wisdom.(I)
6 Hear now my argument;
listen to the pleas of my lips.(J)
7 Will you speak wickedly on God’s behalf?
Will you speak deceitfully for him?(K)
8 Will you show him partiality?(L)
Will you argue the case for God?
9 Would it turn out well if he examined you?(M)
Could you deceive him as you might deceive a mortal?(N)
10 He would surely call you to account
if you secretly showed partiality.(O)
11 Would not his splendor(P) terrify you?
Would not the dread of him fall on you?(Q)
12 Your maxims are proverbs of ashes;
your defenses are defenses of clay.(R)
13 “Keep silent(S) and let me speak;(T)
then let come to me what may.(U)
14 Why do I put myself in jeopardy
and take my life in my hands?(V)
15 Though he slay me, yet will I hope(W) in him;(X)

and then I will not hide from you:

23 How many wrongs and sins have I committed?(AM)
Show me my offense and my sin.(AN)
24 Why do you hide your face(AO)
and consider me your enemy?(AP)

26 For you write down bitter things against me
and make me reap the sins of my youth.(AU)

2 What ye know, the same do I know also: I am not inferior unto you.
3 Surely I would speak to the Almighty, and I desire to reason with God.
4 But ye are forgers of lies, ye are all physicians of no value.
5 O that ye would altogether hold your peace! and it should be your wisdom.
6 Hear now my reasoning, and hearken to the pleadings of my lips.
7 Will ye speak wickedly for God? and talk deceitfully for him?
8 Will ye accept his person? will ye contend for God?
9 Is it good that he should search you out? or as one man mocketh another, do ye so mock him?
10 He will surely reprove you, if ye do secretly accept persons.
11 Shall not his excellency make you afraid? and his dread fall upon you?
12 Your remembrances are like unto ashes, your bodies to bodies of clay.
13 Hold your peace, let me alone, that I may speak, and let come on me what will.
14 Wherefore do I take my flesh in my teeth, and put my life in mine hand?
15 Though he slay me, yet will I trust in him: but I will maintain mine own ways before him.
16 He also shall be my salvation: for an hypocrite shall not come before him.
17 Hear diligently my speech, and my declaration with your ears.
18 Behold now, I have ordered my cause; I know that I shall be justified.
19 Who is he that will plead with me? for now, if I hold my tongue, I shall give up the ghost.
20 Only do not two things unto me: then will I not hide myself from thee.
21 Withdraw thine hand far from me: and let not thy dread make me afraid.
22 Then call thou, and I will answer: or let me speak, and answer thou me.
23 How many are mine iniquities and sins? make me to know my transgression and my sin.
24 Wherefore hidest thou thy face, and holdest me for thine enemy?
25 Wilt thou break a leaf driven to and fro? and wilt thou pursue the dry stubble?
26 For thou writest bitter things against me, and makest me to possess the iniquities of my youth.
27 Thou puttest my feet also in the stocks, and lookest narrowly unto all my paths; thou settest a print upon the heels of my feet.
28 And he, as a rotten thing, consumeth, as a garment that is moth eaten.
