²⁰ He silences the lips of trusted advisers
    and takes away the discernment of elders.^(A)

    not only the aged^(B) who understand what is right.^(C)

⁴ You have closed their minds to understanding;^(A)
    therefore you will not let them triumph.

²² The Lord detests lying lips,^(A)
    but he delights^(B) in people who are trustworthy.^(C)

¹⁹ Truthful lips endure forever,
    but a lying tongue lasts only a moment.

²¹ The lips of the righteous nourish many,
    but fools die for lack of sense.^(A)

¹⁷ for God did not endow her with wisdom
    or give her a share of good sense.^(A)

²⁴ He deprives the leaders of the earth of their reason;^(A)
    he makes them wander in a trackless waste.^(B)
