Acusaciones de Zofar

11 Respondió Zofar, el naamatita, y dijo:

2 «¿Las muchas palabras no habrán de tener respuesta?
El hombre que habla mucho, ¿será por ello justificado?
3 ¿Harán tus falacias callar a los hombres?
¿Te burlarás, sin que nadie te avergüence?
4 Tú dices: “Mi doctrina es recta,
y yo soy puro delante de tus ojos.”
5 Mas ¡ah, quién diera que Dios hablara,
que abriera para ti sus labios
6 y te declarara los secretos de la sabiduría,
que son de doble valor que las riquezas!
Sabrías entonces que Dios te ha castigado menos de lo que tu iniquidad merece.

7 »¿Descubrirás tú los secretos de Dios?
¿Llegarás a la perfección del Todopoderoso?
8 Es más alta que los cielos: ¿qué harás?
Es más profunda que el seol: ¿cómo la conocerás?
9 En longitud sobrepasa a la tierra,
y es más ancha que el mar.
10 Si él pasa y aprisiona, y si llama a juicio,
¿quién podrá oponérsele?
11 Y si él conoce a los hombres vanos,
al ver asimismo la iniquidad, ¿no hará caso?
12 Pero un hombre vano será inteligente
cuando la cría del asno montés nazca hombre.

13 »Si tú dispones tu corazón,
y tiendes hacia Dios las manos;
14 si alguna iniquidad hay en tus manos, pero la apartas de ti,
y no consientes que en tu casa more la injusticia,
15 entonces levantarás tu rostro limpio de mancha,
serás fuerte y nada temerás.
16 Olvidarás tu miseria,
o te acordarás de ella como de aguas que pasaron.
17 La vida te será más clara que el mediodía;
aunque oscurezca, será como la mañana.
18 Tendrás confianza, porque hay esperanza;
mirarás alrededor y dormirás seguro.
19 Te acostarás y no habrá quien te espante;
y muchos suplicarán tu favor.
20 Pero los ojos de los malos se consumirán;
no encontrarán refugio,
y toda su esperanza será dar su último suspiro.»

Zophar’s First Response to Job

11 Then[a] Zophar the Naamathite answered and said,

2 “Should an abundance of words go unanswered,
or a man full of talk[b] be vindicated?[c]
3 Should your loose talk put people to silence?
And when you mock, shall no one put you to shame?[d]
4 For you say, ‘My teaching is pure,
and I am clean in your sight.’
5 But,[e] O that[f] God might speak,
and that he would open his lips to you,
6 and that he would tell you the secrets of wisdom,
for insight has many sides.[g]
And know that God on your behalf[h] has forgotten some of[i] your guilt.
7 “Can you find out the essence of God,
or can you find out the ultimate limits[j] of Shaddai?
8 It is higher than the heaven;[k] what can you do?
It is deeper than Sheol; what can you know?
9 Its measure is longer than the earth
and broader than the sea.
10 “If he passes through and imprisons someone[l]
and summons the assembly,[m] then[n] who can hinder him?
11 For he knows those who are worthless;[o]
when he sees[p] iniquity, he will not consider it.[q]
12 But[r] an empty-headed person[s] will get understanding
when[t] a wild donkey’s colt is born as a human being.
13 “If you yourself[u] direct your heart
and stretch out your hands to him—
14 if iniquity[v] is in your hand, put it far away,
and you must not let wickedness reside in your tents—
15 surely then you will lift up your face without[w] blemish,
and you will be firmly established and will not fear.[x]
16 For you yourself[y] will forget your misery;
you will remember it as water that has flowed past.
17 “And your life will be brighter than noon;[z]
its darkness will be like the morning.
18 And you will have confidence because there is hope;
and you will be well protected—you will sleep in safety.[aa]
19 And you will lie down, and no one will make you afraid;[ab]
and many will entreat your favor.[ac]
20 But[ad] the eyes of the wicked will fail;
and refuge will be lost to them,
and their hope is to breathe their last breath.”[ae]

11 Then answered Zophar the Naamathite, and said,

2 Should not the multitude of words be answered? and should a man full of talk be justified?

3 Should thy lies make men hold their peace? and when thou mockest, shall no man make thee ashamed?

4 For thou hast said, My doctrine is pure, and I am clean in thine eyes.

5 But oh that God would speak, and open his lips against thee;

6 And that he would shew thee the secrets of wisdom, that they are double to that which is! Know therefore that God exacteth of thee less than thine iniquity deserveth.

7 Canst thou by searching find out God? canst thou find out the Almighty unto perfection?

8 It is as high as heaven; what canst thou do? deeper than hell; what canst thou know?

9 The measure thereof is longer than the earth, and broader than the sea.

10 If he cut off, and shut up, or gather together, then who can hinder him?

11 For he knoweth vain men: he seeth wickedness also; will he not then consider it?

12 For vain men would be wise, though man be born like a wild ass's colt.

13 If thou prepare thine heart, and stretch out thine hands toward him;

14 If iniquity be in thine hand, put it far away, and let not wickedness dwell in thy tabernacles.

15 For then shalt thou lift up thy face without spot; yea, thou shalt be stedfast, and shalt not fear:

16 Because thou shalt forget thy misery, and remember it as waters that pass away:

17 And thine age shall be clearer than the noonday: thou shalt shine forth, thou shalt be as the morning.

18 And thou shalt be secure, because there is hope; yea, thou shalt dig about thee, and thou shalt take thy rest in safety.

19 Also thou shalt lie down, and none shall make thee afraid; yea, many shall make suit unto thee.

20 But the eyes of the wicked shall fail, and they shall not escape, and their hope shall be as the giving up of the ghost.
