Zophar Rebukes Job

11 Then Zophar the Naamathite [a]answered,

“Shall a multitude of words go unanswered,
And a (A)talkative man be acquitted?
“Shall your boasts silence men?
And shall you (B)scoff and none rebuke?
“For (C)you have said, ‘My teaching is pure,
And (D)I am innocent in your eyes.’
“But would that God might speak,
And open His lips against you,
And show you the secrets of wisdom!
For sound wisdom [b](E)has two sides.
Know then that God [c]forgets a part of (F)your iniquity.

(G)Can you discover the depths of God?
Can you discover the limits of the Almighty?
They are (H)high as [d]the heavens, what can you do?
Deeper than [e](I)Sheol, what can you know?
“Its measure is longer than the earth
And broader than the sea.
10 “If He passes by or shuts up,
Or calls an assembly, (J)who can restrain Him?
11 “For (K)He knows false men,
And He (L)sees iniquity [f]without investigating.
12 [g](M)An idiot will become intelligent
When the [h]foal of a (N)wild donkey is born a man.

13 (O)If you would (P)direct your heart right
And (Q)spread out your hand to Him,
14 If iniquity is in your hand, (R)put it far away,
And do not let wickedness dwell in your tents;
15 “Then, indeed, you could (S)lift up your face without moral defect,
And you would be steadfast and (T)not fear.
16 “For you would (U)forget your trouble,
As (V)waters that have passed by, you would remember it.
17 “Your [i]life would be [j](W)brighter than noonday;
Darkness would be like the morning.
18 “Then you would trust, because there is hope;
And you would look around and rest securely.
19 “You would (X)lie down and none would disturb you,
And many would (Y)entreat your [k]favor.
20 “But the (Z)eyes of the wicked will fail,
And [l]there will (AA)be no escape for them;
And their (AB)hope is [m](AC)to breathe their last.”

16 He (A)sent from on high, He took me;
He drew me out of (B)many waters.
17 He (C)delivered me from my strong enemy,
And from those who hated me, for they were (D)too mighty for me.
18 They confronted me in (E)the day of my calamity,
But (F)the Lord was my stay.
19 He brought me forth also into a (G)broad place;
He rescued me, because (H)He delighted in me.

20 The Lord has (I)rewarded me according to my righteousness;
According to the (J)cleanness of my hands He has recompensed me.
21 For I have (K)kept the ways of the Lord,
And have (L)not wickedly departed from my God.
22 For all (M)His ordinances were before me,
And I did not put away His (N)statutes from me.
23 I was also [a](O)blameless with Him,
And I (P)kept myself from my iniquity.
24 Therefore the Lord has (Q)recompensed me according to my righteousness,
According to the cleanness of my hands in His eyes.

  1. Psalm 18:23 Lit complete; or having integrity; or perfect

27 At this point His (A)disciples came, and they were amazed that He had been speaking with a woman, yet no one said, “What do You seek?” or, “Why do You speak with her?” 28 So the woman left her waterpot, and went into the city and *said to the men, 29 “Come, see a man (B)who told me all the things that I have done; (C)this is not [a]the Christ, is it?” 30 They went out of the city, and were coming to Him.

31 Meanwhile the disciples were urging Him, saying, “(D)Rabbi, eat.” 32 But He said to them, “I have food to eat that you do not know about.” 33 So the (E)disciples were saying to one another, “No one brought Him anything to eat, did he?” 34 Jesus *said to them, “My food is to (F)do the will of Him who sent Me and to (G)accomplish His work. 35 Do you not say, ‘There are yet four months, and then comes the harvest’? Behold, I say to you, lift up your eyes and look on the fields, that they are white (H)for harvest. 36 Already he who reaps is receiving (I)wages and is gathering (J)fruit for (K)life eternal; so that he who sows and he who reaps may rejoice together. 37 For in this case the saying is true, ‘(L)One sows and another reaps.’ 38 I sent you to reap that for which you have not labored; others have labored and you have entered into their labor.”

The Samaritans

39 From (M)that city many of the Samaritans believed in Him because of the word of the woman who testified, “(N)He told me all the things that I have done.” 40 So when the Samaritans came to Jesus, they were asking Him to stay with them; and He stayed there two days. 41 Many more believed because of His word; 42 and they were saying to the woman, “It is no longer because of what you said that we believe, for we have heard for ourselves and know that this One is indeed (O)the Savior of the world.”

43 After (P)the two days He went forth from there into Galilee. 44 For Jesus Himself testified that (Q)a prophet has no honor in his own country. 45 So when He came to Galilee, the Galileans received Him, (R)having seen all the things that He did in Jerusalem at the feast; for they themselves also went to the feast.

Healing a Nobleman’s Son

46 Therefore He came again to (S)Cana of Galilee (T)where He had made the water wine. And there was a royal official whose son was sick at (U)Capernaum. 47 When he heard that Jesus had come (V)out of Judea into Galilee, he went to Him and was imploring Him to come down and heal his son; for he was at the point of death. 48 So Jesus said to him, “Unless you people see [b](W)signs and (X)wonders, you simply will not believe.” 49 The royal official *said to Him, “[c]Sir, come down before my child dies.” 50 Jesus *said to him, (Y)Go; your son lives.” The man believed the word that Jesus spoke to him and started off. 51 As he was now going down, his slaves met him, saying that his [d]son was living. 52 So he inquired of them the hour when he began to get better. Then they said to him, “Yesterday at the [e]seventh hour the fever left him.” 53 So the father knew that it was at that hour in which Jesus said to him, “Your son lives”; and he himself believed and (Z)his whole household. 54 This is again a (AA)second [f]sign that Jesus performed when He had (AB)come out of Judea into Galilee.
