¹⁴ If I sin, you watch me
    and do not acquit me of my iniquity.^(A)

²¹ Why do you not pardon my transgression
    and take away my iniquity?
For now I shall lie in the earth;
    you will seek me, but I shall not be.”^(A)

¹ O Lord, you have searched me and known me.^(A)

²⁶ For you write bitter things against me
    and make me reap^[a] the iniquities of my youth.^(A)
27 You put my feet in the stocks
    and watch all my paths;
    you set a bound to the soles of my feet.

²⁸ I become afraid of all my suffering,
    for I know you will not hold me innocent.

⁷ keeping steadfast love for the thousandth generation,^[a]
forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin,
yet by no means clearing the guilty,
but visiting the iniquity of the parents
upon the children
and the children’s children
to the third and the fourth generation.”^(A)
