1 HUBO un varón en tierra de Hus, llamado Job; y era este hombre perfecto y recto, y temeroso de Dios, y apartado del mal.
2 Y naciéronle siete hijos y tres hijas.
3 Y su hacienda era siete mil ovejas, y tres mil camellos, y quinientas yuntas de bueyes, y quinientas asnas, y muchísimos criados: y era aquel varón grande más que todos los Orientales.
4 E iban sus hijos y hacían banquetes en sus casas, cada uno en su día; y enviaban á llamar sus tres hermanas, para que comiesen y bebiesen con ellos.
5 Y acontecía que, habiendo pasado en turno los días del convite, Job enviaba y santificábalos, y levantábase de mañana y ofrecía holocaustos conforme al número de todos ellos. Porque decía Job: Quizá habrán pecado mis hijos, y habrán blasfemado á Dios en sus corazones. De esta manera hacía todos los días.
6 Y un día vinieron los hijos de Dios á presentarse delante de Jehová, entre los cuales vino también Satán.
7 Y dijo Jehová á Satán: ¿De dónde vienes? Y respondiendo Satán á Jehová, dijo: De rodear la tierra, y de andar por ella.
8 Y Jehová dijo á Satán: ¿No has considerado á mi siervo Job, que no hay otro como él en la tierra, varón perfecto y recto, temeroso de Dios, y apartado de mal?
9 Y respondiendo Satán á Jehová, dijo: ¿Teme Job á Dios de balde?
10 ¿No le has tú cercado á él, y á su casa, y á todo lo que tiene en derredor? Al trabajo de sus manos has dado bendición; por tanto su hacienda ha crecido sobre la tierra.
11 Mas extiende ahora tu mano, y toca á todo lo que tiene, y verás si no te blasfema en tu rostro.
12 Y dijo Jehová á Satán: He aquí, todo lo que tiene está en tu mano: solamente no pongas tu mano sobre él. Y salióse Satán de delante de Jehová.
13 Y un día aconteció que sus hijos é hijas comían y bebían vino en casa de su hermano el primogénito,
14 Y vino un mensajero á Job, que le dijo: Estando arando los bueyes, y las asnas paciendo cerca de ellos,
15 Acometieron los Sabeos, y tomáronlos, é hirieron á los mozos á filo de espada: solamente escapé yo para traerte las nuevas.
16 Aun estaba éste hablando, y vino otro que dijo: Fuego de Dios cayó del cielo, que quemó las ovejas y los mozos, y los consumió: solamente escapé yo solo para traerte las nuevas.
17 Todavía estaba éste hablando, y vino otro que dijo: Los Caldeos hicieron tres escuadrones, y dieron sobre los camellos, y tomáronlos, é hirieron á los mozos á filo de espada; y solamente escapé yo solo para traerte las nuevas.
18 Entre tanto que éste hablaba, vino otro que dijo: Tus hijos y tus hijas estaban comiendo y bebiendo vino en casa de su hermano el primogénito;
19 Y he aquí un gran viento que vino del lado del desierto, é hirió las cuatro esquinas de la casa, y cayó sobre los mozos, y murieron; y solamente escapé yo solo para traerte las nuevas.
20 Entonces Job se levantó, y rasgó su manto, y trasquiló su cabeza, y cayendo en tierra adoró;
21 Y dijo: Desnudo salí del vientre de mi madre, y desnudo tornaré allá. Jehová dió, y Jehová quitó: sea el nombre de Jehová bendito.
22 En todo esto no pecó Job, ni atribuyó á Dios despropósito alguno.

Job’s Life
1 A man named Job lived in Uz. He was a man of integrity: He was decent, he feared God, and he stayed away from evil. 2 He had seven sons and three daughters. 3 He owned 7,000 sheep and goats, 3,000 camels, 1,000 oxen, 500 donkeys, and a large number of servants. He was the most influential person in the Middle East.
4 His sons used to go to each other’s homes, where they would have parties. (Each brother took his turn having a party.) They would send someone to invite their three sisters to eat and drink with them.
5 When they finished having their parties, Job would send for them in order to cleanse them from sin. He would get up early in the morning and sacrifice burnt offerings for each of them. Job thought, “My children may have sinned and cursed God in their hearts.” Job offered sacrifices for them all the time.
Satan Challenges the Lord
6 One day when the sons of God came to stand in front of the Lord, Satan the Accuser came along with them.
7 The Lord asked Satan, “Where have you come from?”
Satan answered the Lord, “From wandering all over the earth.”
8 The Lord asked Satan, “Have you thought about my servant Job? No one in the world is like him! He is a man of integrity: He is decent, he fears God, and he stays away from evil.”
9 Satan answered the Lord, “Haven’t you given Job a reason to fear God? 10 Haven’t you put a protective fence around him, his home, and everything he has? You have blessed everything he does. His cattle have spread out over the land. 11 But now stretch out your hand, and strike everything he has. I bet he’ll curse you to your face.”
12 The Lord told Satan, “Everything he has is in your power, but you must not lay a hand on him!”
Then Satan left the Lord’s presence.
Job’s First Crisis
13 One day when Job’s sons and daughters were eating and drinking wine in their oldest brother’s home, 14 a messenger came to Job. He said, “While the oxen were plowing and the donkeys were grazing nearby, 15 men from Sheba attacked. They took the livestock and massacred the servants. I’m the only one who has escaped to tell you.”
16 While he was still speaking, another ⌞messenger⌟ came and said, “A fire from God fell from heaven and completely burned your flocks and servants. I’m the only one who has escaped to tell you.”
17 While he was still speaking, another ⌞messenger⌟ came and said, “The Chaldeans formed three companies and made a raid on the camels. They took the camels and massacred the servants. I’m the only one who has escaped to tell you.”
18 While he was still speaking, another ⌞messenger⌟ came and said, “Your sons and your daughters were eating and drinking wine at their oldest brother’s home 19 when suddenly a great storm swept across the desert and struck the four corners of the house. It fell on the young people, and they died. I’m the only one who has escaped to tell you.”
20 Job stood up, tore his robe in grief, and shaved his head. Then he fell to the ground and worshiped. 21 He said,
“Naked I came from my mother,
and naked I will return.
The Lord has given,
and the Lord has taken away!
May the name of the Lord be praised.”
22 Through all this Job did not sin or blame God for doing anything wrong.

1 烏 斯 地 有 一 個 人 名 叫 約 伯 ； 那 人 完 全 正 直 ， 敬 畏 神 ， 遠 離 惡 事 。
2 他 生 了 七 個 兒 子 ， 三 個 女 兒 。
3 他 的 家 產 有 七 千 羊 ， 三 千 駱 駝 ， 五 百 對 牛 ， 五 百 母 驢 ， 並 有 許 多 僕 婢 。 這 人 在 東 方 人 中 就 為 至 大 。
4 他 的 兒 子 按 著 日 子 各 在 自 己 家 裡 設 擺 筵 宴 ， 就 打 發 人 去 ， 請 了 他 們 的 三 個 姊 妹 來 ， 與 他 們 一 同 吃 喝 。
5 筵 宴 的 日 子 過 了 ， 約 伯 打 發 人 去 叫 他 們 自 潔 。 他 清 早 起 來 ， 按 著 他 們 眾 人 的 數 目 獻 燔 祭 ； 因 為 他 說 ： 恐 怕 我 兒 子 犯 了 罪 ， 心 中 棄 掉 神 。 約 伯 常 常 這 樣 行 。

8 耶 和 華 問 撒 但 說 ： 「 你 曾 用 心 察 看 我 的 僕 人 約 伯 沒 有 ？ 地 上 再 沒 有 人 像 他 完 全 正 直 ， 敬 畏 神 ， 遠 離 惡 事 。 」
9 撒 但 回 答 耶 和 華 說 ： 約 伯 敬 畏 神 ， 豈 是 無 故 呢 ？
10 你 豈 不 是 四 面 圈 上 籬 笆 圍 護 他 和 他 的 家 ， 並 他 一 切 所 有 的 嗎 ？ 他 手 所 做 的 都 蒙 你 賜 福 ； 他 的 家 產 也 在 地 上 增 多 。
11 你 且 伸 手 毀 他 一 切 所 有 的 ； 他 必 當 面 棄 掉 你 。 」
12 耶 和 華 對 撒 但 說 ： 「 凡 他 所 有 的 都 在 你 手 中 ； 只 是 不 可 伸 手 加 害 於 他 。 」 於 是 撒 但 從 耶 和 華 面 前 退 去 。
13 有 一 天 ， 約 伯 的 兒 女 正 在 他 們 長 兄 的 家 裡 吃 飯 喝 酒 ，
14 有 報 信 的 來 見 約 伯 ， 說 ： 牛 正 耕 地 ， 驢 在 旁 邊 吃 草 ，
15 示 巴 人 忽 然 闖 來 ， 把 牲 畜 擄 去 ， 並 用 刀 殺 了 僕 人 ； 惟 有 我 一 人 逃 脫 ， 來 報 信 給 你 。 」
16 他 還 說 話 的 時 候 ， 又 有 人 來 說 ： 「 神 從 天 上 降 下 火 來 ， 將 群 羊 和 僕 人 都 燒 滅 了 ； 惟 有 我 一 人 逃 脫 ， 來 報 信 給 你 。 」
17 他 還 說 話 的 時 候 ， 又 有 人 來 說 ： 「 迦 勒 底 人 分 作 三 隊 忽 然 闖 來 ， 把 駱 駝 擄 去 ， 並 用 刀 殺 了 僕 人 ； 惟 有 我 一 人 逃 脫 ， 來 報 信 給 你 。 」

20 約 伯 便 起 來 ， 撕 裂 外 袍 ， 剃 了 頭 ， 伏 在 地 上 下 拜 ，
21 說 ： 「 我 赤 身 出 於 母 胎 ， 也 必 赤 身 歸 回 ； 賞 賜 的 是 耶 和 華 ， 收 取 的 也 是 耶 和 華 。 耶 和 華 的 名 是 應 當 稱 頌 的 。 」
22 在 這 一 切 的 事 上 約 伯 並 不 犯 罪 ， 也 不 以 神 為 愚 妄 （ 或 譯 ： 也 不 妄 評 神 ） 。

Dios permite que Job caiga en la miseria
1 En la región de Us había un hombre llamado Job, que vivía una vida recta y sin tacha, y que era un fiel servidor de Dios, cuidadoso de no hacer mal a nadie. 2 Job tenía siete hijos y tres hijas, 3 y era dueño de siete mil ovejas, tres mil camellos, quinientas yuntas de bueyes y quinientas asnas. Tenía también un gran número de esclavos. Era el hombre más rico de todo el oriente.
4 Los hijos de Job acostumbraban celebrar banquetes en casa de cada uno de ellos, por turno, y siempre invitaban a sus tres hermanas. 5 Terminados los días del banquete, Job llamaba a sus hijos y, levantándose de mañana, ofrecía holocaustos por cada uno de ellos, para purificarlos de su pecado. Esto lo hacía Job siempre, pensando que sus hijos podían haber pecado maldiciendo a Dios en su interior.
6 Un día en que debían presentarse ante el Señor sus servidores celestiales, se presentó también el ángel acusador entre ellos. 7 El Señor le preguntó:
—¿De dónde vienes?
Y el acusador contestó:
—He andado recorriendo la tierra de un lado a otro.
8 Entonces le dijo el Señor:
—¿Te has fijado en mi siervo Job? No hay nadie en la tierra como él, que me sirva tan fielmente y viva una vida tan recta y sin tacha, cuidando de no hacer mal a nadie.
9 Pero el acusador respondió:
—Pues no de balde te sirve con tanta fidelidad. 10 Tú no dejas que nadie lo toque, ni a él ni a su familia ni a nada de lo que tiene; tú bendices todo lo que hace, y él es el hombre más rico en ganado de todo el país. 11 Pero quítale todo lo que tiene y verás cómo te maldice en tu propia cara.
12 El Señor respondió al acusador:
—Está bien. Haz lo que quieras con todas las cosas de Job, con tal de que a él mismo no le hagas ningún daño.
Entonces el acusador se retiró de la presencia del Señor.
13 Un día, mientras los hijos y las hijas de Job estaban celebrando un banquete en casa del hermano mayor, 14 un hombre llegó a casa de Job y le dio esta noticia:
—Estábamos arando el campo con los bueyes, y las asnas estaban pastando cerca; 15 de repente llegaron los sabeos, y se robaron el ganado y mataron a cuchillo a los hombres. Sólo yo pude escapar para venir a avisarte.
16 Aún no había terminado de hablar aquel hombre, cuando llegó otro y dijo:
—Cayó un rayo y mató a los pastores y las ovejas. Sólo yo pude escapar para venir a avisarte.
17 Aún no había terminado de hablar ese hombre, cuando llegó un tercero y dijo:
—Tres grupos de caldeos nos atacaron y se robaron los camellos, y mataron a cuchillo a los hombres. Sólo yo pude escapar para venir a avisarte.
18 Aún no había terminado de hablar este hombre, cuando llegó uno más y dijo:
—Tus hijos y tus hijas estaban celebrando un banquete en la casa de tu hijo mayor, 19 cuando de pronto un viento del desierto vino y sacudió la casa por los cuatro costados, derrumbándola sobre tus hijos. Todos ellos murieron. Sólo yo pude escapar para venir a avisarte.
20 Entonces Job se levantó, y lleno de dolor se rasgó la ropa, se rapó la cabeza y se inclinó en actitud de adoración. 21 Entonces dijo:
—Desnudo vine a este mundo, y desnudo saldré de él. El Señor me lo dio todo, y el Señor me lo quitó; ¡bendito sea el nombre del Señor!
22 Así pues, a pesar de todo, Job no pecó ni dijo nada malo contra Dios.
