Job 1
King James Version
1Â There was a man in the land of Uz, whose name was Job; and that man was perfect and upright, and one that feared God, and eschewed evil.
2Â And there were born unto him seven sons and three daughters.
3Â His substance also was seven thousand sheep, and three thousand camels, and five hundred yoke of oxen, and five hundred she asses, and a very great household; so that this man was the greatest of all the men of the east.
4Â And his sons went and feasted in their houses, every one his day; and sent and called for their three sisters to eat and to drink with them.
5Â And it was so, when the days of their feasting were gone about, that Job sent and sanctified them, and rose up early in the morning, and offered burnt offerings according to the number of them all: for Job said, It may be that my sons have sinned, and cursed God in their hearts. Thus did Job continually.
6Â Now there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the Lord, and Satan came also among them.
7Â And the Lord said unto Satan, Whence comest thou? Then Satan answered the Lord, and said, From going to and fro in the earth, and from walking up and down in it.
8Â And the Lord said unto Satan, Hast thou considered my servant Job, that there is none like him in the earth, a perfect and an upright man, one that feareth God, and escheweth evil?
9Â Then Satan answered the Lord, and said, Doth Job fear God for nought?
10Â Hast not thou made an hedge about him, and about his house, and about all that he hath on every side? thou hast blessed the work of his hands, and his substance is increased in the land.
11Â But put forth thine hand now, and touch all that he hath, and he will curse thee to thy face.
12Â And the Lord said unto Satan, Behold, all that he hath is in thy power; only upon himself put not forth thine hand. So Satan went forth from the presence of the Lord.
13Â And there was a day when his sons and his daughters were eating and drinking wine in their eldest brother's house:
14Â And there came a messenger unto Job, and said, The oxen were plowing, and the asses feeding beside them:
15Â And the Sabeans fell upon them, and took them away; yea, they have slain the servants with the edge of the sword; and I only am escaped alone to tell thee.
16Â While he was yet speaking, there came also another, and said, The fire of God is fallen from heaven, and hath burned up the sheep, and the servants, and consumed them; and I only am escaped alone to tell thee.
17Â While he was yet speaking, there came also another, and said, The Chaldeans made out three bands, and fell upon the camels, and have carried them away, yea, and slain the servants with the edge of the sword; and I only am escaped alone to tell thee.
18Â While he was yet speaking, there came also another, and said, Thy sons and thy daughters were eating and drinking wine in their eldest brother's house:
19Â And, behold, there came a great wind from the wilderness, and smote the four corners of the house, and it fell upon the young men, and they are dead; and I only am escaped alone to tell thee.
20Â Then Job arose, and rent his mantle, and shaved his head, and fell down upon the ground, and worshipped,
21Â And said, Naked came I out of my mother's womb, and naked shall I return thither: the Lord gave, and the Lord hath taken away; blessed be the name of the Lord.
22Â In all this Job sinned not, nor charged God foolishly.
Job 1
Tree of Life Version
Job and His Children
1Â There was a man in the land of Uz whose name was Job. Now that man was blameless and upright; he feared God and shunned evil. 2Â He had seven sons and three daughters 3Â and his possessions were 7,000 sheep, 3,000 camels, 500 yoke of oxen and 500 female donkeys, and a very large household. That man was the greatest of all the people of the East.
4Â Now it was customary for his sons to hold a banquet, each on his own day in his own house. They would send to invite their three sisters to eat and drink with them. 5Â When the round of banquet days was completed, Job would send for them and consecrate them. He would rise early in the morning and offer burnt offerings, according to the number of them all. For Job said, âPerhaps my children have sinned and cursed God in their hearts.â Thus Job did everyday.
The Adversary Tests Job
6Â One day the sons of God came to present themselves before Adonai, and the satan[a] also came with them. 7Â Adonai said to the satan, âWhere have you come from?â
The satan responded to Adonai and said, âFrom roaming the earth and from walking on it.â[b]
8Â Adonai said to the satan, âDid you notice my servant Job? There is no one like him on the earthâa blameless and upright man, who fears God and spurns evil.â
9Â Then the satan responded to Adonai, saying, âDoes Job fear God for nothing? 10Â Have you not made a hedge around him, his household, and everything he has? You have blessed the work of his hands and his possessions have increased in the land. 11Â But now, stretch out Your hand and strike everything he has, and he will certainly curse You to Your face!â
12Â Then Adonai said to the satan, âEverything he has is in your hand. Only do not extend your hand against him!â So the satan departed from the presence of Adonai.
13Â One day when his sons and daughters were eating and drinking wine in their oldest brotherâs house, 14Â a messenger came to Job, saying, âThe oxen were plowing and the donkeys were grazing near them, 15Â when the Sabeans attacked and carried them off. They also killed the servants with the edge of the swordâI alone escaped to tell you!â
16Â While this one was still speaking another came in and said, âThe fire of God has fallen from heaven and has burned up the sheep and servantsâit has consumed them, and IâI aloneâescaped to tell you!â
17Â While this one was still speaking another came in and said, âThe Chaldeans formed three bands and raided the camels and took them all away. They also killed the servants with the edge of the sword, and Iâonly I aloneâescaped to tell you!â
18Â While this one was still speaking another came in and said, âYour sons and your daughters were eating and drinking wine at their oldest brotherâs house 19Â when suddenly a mighty wind came from beyond the wilderness and struck the four corners of the house, and it collapsed on the young people and they died. And Iâonly I aloneâescaped to tell you!â
20Â Then Job got up, tore his robe, shaved his head, fell to the ground and worshiped. 21Â Then he said:
âNaked I came from my motherâs womb,
and naked I will return there.
Adonai gave and Adonai has taken away;
blessed be the Name of Adonai.â
22Â Through all this, Job did not sin nor did he cast reproach on God.

Job 1
Reina-Valera Antigua
2 Y naciéronle siete hijos y tres hijas.
18 Entre tanto que éste hablaba, vino otro que dijo: Tus hijos y tus hijas estaban comiendo y bebiendo vino en casa de su hermano el primogénito;
20Â Entonces Job se levantĂł, y rasgĂł su manto, y trasquilĂł su cabeza, y cayendo en tierra adorĂł;
