⁹ Then the accuser^[a] answered the Lord, “Does Job fear God for nothing?^(A)

²⁶ For what will it profit them if they gain the whole world but forfeit their life? Or what will they give in return for their life?

⁶ Of course, there is great gain in godliness combined with contentment,^(A)

⁸ for, while physical training is of some value, godliness is valuable in every way, holding promise for both the present life and the life to come.^(A)

¹⁰ But he said to her, “You speak as any foolish woman would speak. Shall we receive good from God and not receive evil?” In all this Job did not sin with his lips.^(A)

²¹ He said, “Naked I came from my mother’s womb, and naked shall I return there; the Lord gave, and the Lord has taken away; blessed be the name of the Lord.”^(A)

¹⁰ Oh, that someone among you would shut the temple^[a] doors, so that you would not kindle fire on my altar in vain! I have no pleasure in you, says the Lord of hosts, and I will not accept an offering from your hands.^(A)
