¹⁹ when suddenly a mighty wind^(A) swept in from the desert and struck the four corners of the house. It collapsed on them and they are dead,^(B) and I am the only one who has escaped to tell you!^(C)”

² in which you used to live^(A) when you followed the ways of this world^(B) and of the ruler of the kingdom of the air,^(C) the spirit who is now at work in those who are disobedient.^(D)

⁴ When the islanders saw the snake hanging from his hand,^(A) they said to each other, “This man must be a murderer; for though he escaped from the sea, the goddess Justice has not allowed him to live.”^(B)

Repent or Perish

13 Now there were some present at that time who told Jesus about the Galileans whose blood Pilate^(A) had mixed with their sacrifices. ² Jesus answered, “Do you think that these Galileans were worse sinners than all the other Galileans because they suffered this way?^{(B) 3} I tell you, no! But unless you repent, you too will all perish. ⁴ Or those eighteen who died when the tower in Siloam^(C) fell on them—do you think they were more guilty than all the others living in Jerusalem? ⁵ I tell you, no! But unless you repent,^(D) you too will all perish.”

¹¹ At that time this people and Jerusalem will be told, “A scorching wind^(A) from the barren heights in the desert blows toward my people, but not to winnow or cleanse; ¹² a wind^(B) too strong for that comes from me. Now I pronounce my judgments^(C) against them.”

³⁰ The rest of them escaped to the city of Aphek,^(A) where the wall collapsed^(B) on twenty-seven thousand of them. And Ben-Hadad fled to the city and hid^(C) in an inner room.

³³ The king was shaken. He went up to the room over the gateway and wept. As he went, he said: “O my son Absalom! My son, my son Absalom! If only I had died^(A) instead of you—O Absalom, my son, my son!”^[a](B)

³⁰ Samson said, “Let me die with the Philistines!” Then he pushed with all his might, and down came the temple on the rulers and all the people in it. Thus he killed many more when he died than while he lived.

³⁶ Their father Jacob said to them, “You have deprived me of my children. Joseph is no more and Simeon is no more,^(A) and now you want to take Benjamin.^(B) Everything is against me!^(C)”
