⁹ for we were born only yesterday and know nothing,^(A)
    and our days on earth are but a shadow.^(B)

⁶ In the morning it springs up new,
    but by evening it is dry and withered.^(A)

¹² But you, Lord, sit enthroned forever;^(A)
    your renown endures^(B) through all generations.^(C)

¹⁵ The life of mortals is like grass,^(A)
    they flourish like a flower^(B) of the field;

²³ I fade away like an evening shadow;^(A)
    I am shaken off like a locust.

⁴ They are like a breath;^(A)
    their days are like a fleeting shadow.^(B)

⁶ A voice says, “Cry out.”
    And I said, “What shall I cry?”

“All people are like grass,^(A)
    and all their faithfulness is like the flowers of the field.
⁷ The grass withers^(B) and the flowers fall,
    because the breath^(C) of the Lord blows^(D) on them.
    Surely the people are grass.
