²³ Why is light given to one who cannot see the way,
    whom God has fenced in?^(A)

⁸ He has walled up my way so that I cannot pass,
    and he has set darkness upon my paths.^(A)

⁶ For even if they escape destruction,
    Egypt shall gather them;
    Memphis shall bury them.
Nettles shall possess their precious things of silver;^[a]
    thorns shall be in their tents.^(A)

⁸ The high places of Aven, the sin of Israel,
    shall be destroyed.
Thorn and thistle shall grow up
    on their altars.
They shall say to the mountains, “Cover us,”
    and to the hills, “Fall on us.”^(A)
