¹⁴ with kings and rulers of the earth,^(A)
    who built for themselves places now lying in ruins,^(B)

²⁸ he will inhabit ruined towns
    and houses where no one lives,^(A)
    houses crumbling to rubble.^(B)

¹⁰ They will all respond,
    they will say to you,
“You also have become weak, as we are;
    you have become like us.”^(A)
11 All your pomp has been brought down to the grave,^(B)
    along with the noise of your harps;^(C)
maggots are spread out beneath you
    and worms^(D) cover you.^(E)

¹² How you have fallen^(F) from heaven,
    morning star,^(G) son of the dawn!
You have been cast down to the earth,
    you who once laid low the nations!^(H)
13 You said in your heart,
    “I will ascend^(I) to the heavens;
I will raise my throne^(J)
    above the stars of God;
I will sit enthroned on the mount of assembly,^(K)
    on the utmost heights^(L) of Mount Zaphon.^[a]
14 I will ascend above the tops of the clouds;^(M)
    I will make myself like the Most High.”^(N)
15 But you are brought down^(O) to the realm of the dead,^(P)
    to the depths^(Q) of the pit.^(R)

¹⁶ Those who see you stare at you,
    they ponder your fate:^(S)
“Is this the man who shook^(T) the earth
    and made kingdoms tremble,

²⁵ “‘The ships of Tarshish^(N) serve
    as carriers for your wares.
You are filled with heavy cargo
    as you sail the sea.^(O)
26 Your oarsmen take you
    out to the high seas.
But the east wind^(P) will break you to pieces
    far out at sea.
²⁷ Your wealth,^(Q) merchandise and wares,
    your mariners, sailors and shipwrights,
your merchants and all your soldiers,
    and everyone else on board
will sink into the heart of the sea^(R)
    on the day of your shipwreck.
²⁸ The shorelands will quake^(S)
    when your sailors cry out.
²⁹ All who handle the oars
    will abandon their ships;
the mariners and all the sailors
    will stand on the shore.
³⁰ They will raise their voice
    and cry bitterly over you;
they will sprinkle dust^(T) on their heads
    and roll^(U) in ashes.^(V)
31 They will shave their heads^(W) because of you
    and will put on sackcloth.
They will weep^(X) over you with anguish of soul
    and with bitter mourning.^(Y)
32 As they wail and mourn over you,
    they will take up a lament^(Z) concerning you:
“Who was ever silenced like Tyre,
    surrounded by the sea?^(AA)”
