²¹Before I go whence I shall not return, even to the land of darkness and the shadow of death;

²¹before I go to the place of no return,^(A)
to the land of gloom and utter darkness,^(B)

²²A land of darkness, as darkness itself; and of the shadow of death, without any order, and where the light is as darkness.

²²to the land of deepest night,
of utter darkness^(A) and disorder,
where even the light is like darkness.”^(B)

¹²Shall thy wonders be known in the dark? and thy righteousness in the land of forgetfulness?

¹²Are your wonders known in the place of darkness,
or your righteous deeds in the land of oblivion?
