7 “Where have you come from?” the Lord asked Satan.
And Satan replied, “From earth, where I’ve been watching everything that’s going on.”
8 Then the Lord asked Satan, “Have you noticed my servant Job? He is the finest man in all the earth—a good man[a] who fears God and will have nothing to do with evil.”
9 “Why shouldn’t he when you pay him so well?” Satan scoffed.

New International Version
7 The Lord said to Satan, “Where have you come from?”
Satan answered the Lord, “From roaming throughout the earth, going back and forth on it.”(A)
8 Then the Lord said to Satan, “Have you considered my servant Job?(B) There is no one on earth like him; he is blameless and upright, a man who fears God(C) and shuns evil.”(D)
9 “Does Job fear God for nothing?”(E) Satan replied.
