When they finished having their parties, Job would send for them in order to cleanse them from sin. He would get up early in the morning and sacrifice burnt offerings for each of them. Job thought, “My children may have sinned and cursed God in their hearts.” Job offered sacrifices for them all the time.

Satan Challenges the Lord

One day when the sons of God came to stand in front of the Lord, Satan the Accuser came along with them.

The Lord asked Satan, “Where have you come from?”

Satan answered the Lord, “From wandering all over the earth.”

When a period of feasting had run its course, Job would make arrangements for them to be purified.(A) Early in the morning he would sacrifice a burnt offering(B) for each of them, thinking, “Perhaps my children have sinned(C) and cursed God(D) in their hearts.” This was Job’s regular custom.

One day the angels[a](E) came to present themselves before the Lord, and Satan[b](F) also came with them.(G) The Lord said to Satan, “Where have you come from?”

Satan answered the Lord, “From roaming throughout the earth, going back and forth on it.”(H)
