Jesus é condenado à morte
19 Então Pilatos mandou que levassem a Jesus para ser açoitado. 2 Os soldados fizeram uma coroa de espinhos e a puseram na cabeça de Jesus, e o vestiram com um manto de púrpura. 3 Depois, chegavam perto dele e diziam:
—Viva o rei dos judeus!
E davam bofetadas nele.
4 E, mais uma vez, Pilatos saiu do palácio e disse aos judeus:
—Escutem, eu vou trazer Jesus aqui para fora. Eu quero que vocês saibam que não encontro nenhum motivo para condená-lo.
5 Então Jesus saiu do palácio usando a coroa de espinhos e vestido com o manto de púrpura. Pilatos disse aos judeus:
—Aqui está o homem! 6 Quando os líderes dos sacerdotes e os guardas do templo viram a Jesus, começaram a gritar:
—Pregue-o na cruz! Pregue-o na cruz!
Então Pilatos respondeu:
—Vocês levem-no e preguem-no na cruz, pois eu não encontro nenhum crime nele.
7 Os judeus responderam:
—A nossa lei diz que ele deve morrer, pois ele afirma que é o Filho de Deus!
8 (Quando Pilatos ouviu isto, ficou com mais medo ainda.)
9 Pilatos entrou para o palácio outra vez e perguntou para Jesus:
—De onde você é?
Mas Jesus não respondeu nada.
10 Pilatos então disse:
—Você não quer responder? Você não sabe que tenho autoridade tanto para mandar soltá-lo como para mandar crucificá-lo?
11 Jesus respondeu:
—O senhor só tem autoridade sobre mim porque essa autoridade lhe foi dada por Deus. Por isso, aquele que me entregou ao senhor é mais culpado do que o senhor.
12 Depois de ouvir isto, Pilatos tentou encontrar um jeito de soltar a Jesus. Os judeus, porém, gritavam:
—Se o senhor soltar esse homem, o senhor não é amigo do Imperador! Qualquer um que diz ser rei é inimigo do Imperador!
13 Ao ouvir o que os judeus diziam, Pilatos levou a Jesus para fora, para um lugar chamado Calçada de Pedra (em aramaico chamava-se Gabatá), e ali se sentou no tribunal. 14 Era por volta de meio-dia da sexta-feira da semana da Páscoa. Pilatos disse aos judeus:
—Aqui está o Rei de vocês!
15 Os judeus gritavam:
—Fora com ele! Fora com ele! Pregue-o na cruz!
Pilatos perguntou-lhes:
—Vocês querem que eu pregue o seu Rei numa cruz?
Os líderes dos sacerdotes responderam:
—O único rei que temos é o Imperador.
16 Então Pilatos entregou Jesus para ser pregado na cruz e os soldados o levaram.
Jesus é crucificado
(Mt 27.32-44; Mc 15.21-32; Lc 23.26-39)
17 Carregando a sua própria cruz, Jesus se dirigiu para um lugar chamado Caveira (que em aramaico chamava-se Gólgota.) 18 Ali pregaram a Jesus na cruz. E também outros dois homens foram pregados cada um em sua cruz com ele, um de cada lado e Jesus no meio. 19 Pilatos também mandou escrever uma placa que dizia: Jesus de Nazaré, rei dos judeus, e mandou colocá-la na cruz. 20 Muitos judeus puderam ler a placa porque o lugar onde Jesus foi pregado na cruz ficava perto da cidade e porque ela estava escrita em aramaico, latim e grego. 21 Os líderes dos sacerdotes disseram a Pilatos:
—Por favor, não escreva: “rei dos judeus”, mas escreva: Este homem disse: “Eu sou rei dos judeus”.
22 Pilatos respondeu:
—Aquilo que eu escrevi, escrevi!
23 Depois de terem pregado a Jesus na cruz, os soldados pegaram as roupas dele e as dividiram em quatro partes, uma para cada um. Pegaram também sua túnica, mas ela era feita de uma só peça de pano, sem costura. 24 Então disseram uns aos outros:
—Não vamos rasgar a túnica! Vamos tirar a sorte para ver quem fica com ela.
Isso aconteceu para que se cumprisse o que dizem as Escrituras:
“Dividiram a minha roupa entre si,
e tiraram a sorte pela minha túnica”.(A)
E os soldados assim o fizeram.
25 A mãe de Jesus estava perto da cruz junto com a irmã dela. Também lá estavam Maria, que era a mulher de Clopas, e Maria Madalena. 26 Quando Jesus viu que sua mãe e o discípulo que ele amava estavam ali, ele disse para sua mãe:
—Senhora, aí está o seu filho.
27 Depois disse ao discípulo:
—Aí está a sua mãe.
Daquele momento em diante, o discípulo a levou para morar em sua casa.
A morte de Jesus
(Mt 27.45-56; Mc 15.33-41; Lc 23.44-49)
28 Depois disto, Jesus percebeu que tudo já estava terminado. Mas, para que acontecesse o que dizem as Escrituras, ele disse:
—Tenho sede[a]!
29 Havia ali uma vasilha cheia de vinagre de vinho. Os soldados puseram uma esponja numa vara de hissopo, molharam-na no vinagre da vasilha e a levaram até a boca de Jesus. 30 Depois que Jesus provou o vinagre, disse:
—Está terminado! Então abaixou a cabeça e morreu.
31 Tudo isto aconteceu na sexta-feira. Os judeus não queriam que os corpos ficassem na cruz até o dia seguinte, pois era um sábado muito especial. Pediram então a Pilatos que mandasse quebrar as pernas dos homens e tirar os corpos de lá. 32 Quando os soldados chegaram, quebraram as pernas do homem que estava de um lado de Jesus. Depois quebraram as pernas do homem que estava do outro lado de Jesus. 33 Mas, quando chegaram perto de Jesus, viram que ele já estava morto e não quebraram as pernas dele. 34 Um dos soldados, porém, atravessou o lado de Jesus com uma lança, fazendo sair sangue e água. 35 (Quem viu isto acontecer deu testemunho e o seu testemunho é verdadeiro. Ele sabe que fala a verdade para que vocês possam ter fé.) 36 Foi assim para que se cumprisse o que dizem as Escrituras: “Nenhum dos seus ossos será quebrado”(B). 37 E também uma outra Escritura diz: “E eles olharão para aquele a quem traspassaram”(C).
O enterro de Jesus
(Mt 27.57-61; Mc 15.42-47; Lc 23.50-56)
38 Mais tarde, um homem de Arimateia chamado José pediu a Pilatos o corpo de Jesus. (José era um discípulo de Jesus, mas em segredo, porque tinha medo dos judeus.) Pilatos deu permissão a José e ele veio e levou o corpo de Jesus. 39 Nicodemos, aquele que tinha ido falar com Jesus à noite, também foi com José. Ele tinha levado um bálsamo feito de uma mistura de mirra e aloés que pesava uns trinta quilos[b]. 40 Os dois levaram o corpo de Jesus e o enrolaram em tiras de lençóis de linho perfumadas com o bálsamo. (Era assim que os judeus enterravam os mortos.) 41 Havia um jardim no lugar onde Jesus foi crucificado. Nesse jardim havia um túmulo novo, onde ninguém ainda tinha sido enterrado. 42 Puseram então o corpo de Jesus nesse túmulo, pois ficava perto e também porque os judeus estavam se preparando para o sábado.

19 Então Pilatos mandou açoitar Jesus. 2 Os soldados fizeram uma coroa de espinhos e a colocaram em sua cabeça, e depois puseram nele um manto vermelho. 3 Zombavam dele, dizendo: “Salve, rei dos judeus!”, e batiam em seu rosto.
4 Pilatos saiu outra vez e disse ao povo: “Agora vou trazê-lo aqui para vocês, mas que fique bem claro: eu o considero inocente”. 5 Então Jesus saiu com a coroa de espinhos e o manto vermelho. “Vejam, aqui está o homem!”, disse Pilatos.
6 Quando os principais sacerdotes e os guardas do templo o viram, começaram a gritar: “Crucifique-o! Crucifique-o!”.
“Levem-no vocês e crucifiquem-no”, disse Pilatos. “Eu o considero inocente.”
7 Os líderes judeus responderam: “Pela nossa lei ele deve morrer, pois chamou a si mesmo de Filho de Deus”.
8 Quando Pilatos ouviu isso, ficou ainda mais amedrontado. 9 Levou Jesus de volta para dentro do palácio[a] e lhe perguntou: “De onde você vem?”. Jesus, porém, não respondeu. 10 “Por que você se nega a falar comigo?”, perguntou Pilatos. “Não sabe que tenho autoridade para soltá-lo ou crucificá-lo?”
11 Jesus disse: “Você não teria autoridade alguma sobre mim se esta não lhe fosse dada de cima. Portanto, aquele que me entregou a você tem um pecado maior”.
12 Então Pilatos tentou libertá-lo, mas os líderes judeus gritavam: “Se o senhor soltar este homem, não é amigo de César! Quem se declara rei se rebela contra César”.
13 Ao ouvir isso, Pilatos trouxe Jesus para fora novamente e se sentou no tribunal, na plataforma chamada “Pavimento de Pedras” (em aramaico, Gábata). 14 Era por volta de meio-dia, no dia da preparação para a Páscoa. E Pilatos disse ao povo: “Vejam, aqui está o seu rei!”.
15 “Fora com ele!”, gritaram. “Fora com ele! Crucifique-o!”
“O quê? Crucificar o seu rei?”, perguntou Pilatos.
Em resposta, os principais sacerdotes gritaram: “Não temos outro rei além de César!”.
16 Então Pilatos lhes entregou Jesus para ser crucificado. E eles levaram Jesus.
A crucificação
17 Carregando a própria cruz, Jesus foi ao local chamado Lugar da Caveira (em aramaico, Gólgota). 18 Ali eles o pregaram na cruz. Outros dois foram crucificados com Jesus, um de cada lado e ele no meio. 19 Pilatos colocou no alto da cruz uma placa que dizia: “Jesus, o nazareno,[b] Rei dos judeus”. 20 O lugar onde Jesus foi crucificado ficava perto da cidade, e a placa estava escrita em aramaico, latim e grego, de modo que muitos judeus podiam ler a inscrição.
21 Os principais sacerdotes disseram a Pilatos: “Mude a inscrição de ‘Rei dos judeus’ para ‘Ele disse: Eu sou o rei dos judeus’”.
22 Pilatos respondeu: “O que escrevi, escrevi”.
23 Depois que os soldados crucificaram Jesus, repartiram suas roupas em quatro partes, uma para cada um deles. Também pegaram sua túnica, mas ela era sem costura, tecida numa única peça, de alto a baixo. 24 Por isso disseram: “Em vez de rasgá-la, vamos tirar sortes para ver quem ficará com ela”. Isso cumpriu as Escrituras que dizem: “Repartiram minhas roupas entre si e lançaram sortes por minha veste”.[c] E foi o que fizeram.
25 Perto da cruz estavam a mãe de Jesus, a irmã dela, Maria, esposa de Clopas, e Maria Madalena. 26 Quando Jesus viu sua mãe ali, ao lado do discípulo a quem ele amava, disse-lhe: “Mulher, este é seu filho”. 27 E, ao discípulo, disse: “Esta é sua mãe”. Daquele momento em diante, o discípulo a recebeu em sua casa.
A morte de Jesus
28 Jesus sabia que sua missão havia terminado e, para cumprir as Escrituras, disse: “Estou com sede”.[d] 29 Havia ali uma vasilha com vinagre, de modo que ensoparam uma esponja no vinagre, a colocaram na ponta de um caniço de hissopo e a ergueram até os lábios de Jesus. 30 Depois de prová-la, Jesus disse: “Está consumado”. Então, inclinou a cabeça e entregou o espírito.
31 Era o Dia da Preparação, e os líderes judeus não queriam que os corpos ficassem pendurados ali até o dia seguinte, que seria um sábado muito especial. Por isso pediram a Pilatos que mandasse quebrar as pernas dos crucificados e removê-los. 32 Assim, os soldados vieram e quebraram as pernas dos dois homens crucificados com Jesus. 33 Mas, quando chegaram a Jesus, viram que ele já estava morto e, portanto, não quebraram suas pernas. 34 Um dos soldados, porém, furou seu lado com uma lança e, no mesmo instante, correu sangue com água. 35 Essa informação provém de uma testemunha ocular. Ela diz a verdade para que vocês também creiam. 36 Essas coisas aconteceram para que se cumprissem as Escrituras que dizem: “Nenhum dos seus ossos será quebrado”,[e] 37 e “Olharão para aquele a quem transpassaram”.[f]
O sepultamento de Jesus
38 Depois disso, José de Arimateia, que tinha sido discípulo secreto de Jesus porque temia os líderes judeus, pediu autorização a Pilatos para tirar da cruz o corpo de Jesus. Quando Pilatos lhe deu permissão, José veio e levou o corpo. 39 Estava com ele Nicodemos, o homem que tinha ido conversar com Jesus à noite. Nicodemos trouxe cerca de 35 litros[g] de óleo perfumado feito com mirra e aloés. 40 Seguindo os costumes judaicos de sepultamento, envolveram o corpo de Jesus em lençóis compridos de linho, junto com essas especiarias. 41 O local da crucificação ficava próximo a um jardim, onde havia um túmulo novo que nunca tinha sido usado. 42 Como era o Dia da Preparação para a Páscoa judaica,[h] e uma vez que o túmulo ficava perto, colocaram Jesus ali.

Jesus Sentenced to Be Crucified(A)
19 Then Pilate took Jesus and had him flogged.(B) 2 The soldiers twisted together a crown of thorns and put it on his head. They clothed him in a purple robe 3 and went up to him again and again, saying, “Hail, king of the Jews!”(C) And they slapped him in the face.(D)
4 Once more Pilate came out and said to the Jews gathered there, “Look, I am bringing him out(E) to you to let you know that I find no basis for a charge against him.”(F) 5 When Jesus came out wearing the crown of thorns and the purple robe,(G) Pilate said to them, “Here is the man!”
6 As soon as the chief priests and their officials saw him, they shouted, “Crucify! Crucify!”
But Pilate answered, “You take him and crucify him.(H) As for me, I find no basis for a charge against him.”(I)
7 The Jewish leaders insisted, “We have a law, and according to that law he must die,(J) because he claimed to be the Son of God.”(K)
8 When Pilate heard this, he was even more afraid, 9 and he went back inside the palace.(L) “Where do you come from?” he asked Jesus, but Jesus gave him no answer.(M) 10 “Do you refuse to speak to me?” Pilate said. “Don’t you realize I have power either to free you or to crucify you?”
11 Jesus answered, “You would have no power over me if it were not given to you from above.(N) Therefore the one who handed me over to you(O) is guilty of a greater sin.”
12 From then on, Pilate tried to set Jesus free, but the Jewish leaders kept shouting, “If you let this man go, you are no friend of Caesar. Anyone who claims to be a king(P) opposes Caesar.”
13 When Pilate heard this, he brought Jesus out and sat down on the judge’s seat(Q) at a place known as the Stone Pavement (which in Aramaic(R) is Gabbatha). 14 It was the day of Preparation(S) of the Passover; it was about noon.(T)
“Here is your king,”(U) Pilate said to the Jews.
15 But they shouted, “Take him away! Take him away! Crucify him!”
“Shall I crucify your king?” Pilate asked.
“We have no king but Caesar,” the chief priests answered.
16 Finally Pilate handed him over to them to be crucified.(V)
The Crucifixion of Jesus(W)
So the soldiers took charge of Jesus. 17 Carrying his own cross,(X) he went out to the place of the Skull(Y) (which in Aramaic(Z) is called Golgotha). 18 There they crucified him, and with him two others(AA)—one on each side and Jesus in the middle.
19 Pilate had a notice prepared and fastened to the cross. It read: jesus of nazareth,(AB) the king of the jews.(AC) 20 Many of the Jews read this sign, for the place where Jesus was crucified was near the city,(AD) and the sign was written in Aramaic, Latin and Greek. 21 The chief priests of the Jews protested to Pilate, “Do not write ‘The King of the Jews,’ but that this man claimed to be king of the Jews.”(AE)
22 Pilate answered, “What I have written, I have written.”
23 When the soldiers crucified Jesus, they took his clothes, dividing them into four shares, one for each of them, with the undergarment remaining. This garment was seamless, woven in one piece from top to bottom.
24 “Let’s not tear it,” they said to one another. “Let’s decide by lot who will get it.”
This happened that the scripture might be fulfilled(AF) that said,
So this is what the soldiers did.
25 Near the cross(AH) of Jesus stood his mother,(AI) his mother’s sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary Magdalene.(AJ) 26 When Jesus saw his mother(AK) there, and the disciple whom he loved(AL) standing nearby, he said to her, “Woman,[b] here is your son,” 27 and to the disciple, “Here is your mother.” From that time on, this disciple took her into his home.
The Death of Jesus(AM)
28 Later, knowing that everything had now been finished,(AN) and so that Scripture would be fulfilled,(AO) Jesus said, “I am thirsty.” 29 A jar of wine vinegar(AP) was there, so they soaked a sponge in it, put the sponge on a stalk of the hyssop plant, and lifted it to Jesus’ lips. 30 When he had received the drink, Jesus said, “It is finished.”(AQ) With that, he bowed his head and gave up his spirit.
31 Now it was the day of Preparation,(AR) and the next day was to be a special Sabbath. Because the Jewish leaders did not want the bodies left on the crosses(AS) during the Sabbath, they asked Pilate to have the legs broken and the bodies taken down. 32 The soldiers therefore came and broke the legs of the first man who had been crucified with Jesus, and then those of the other.(AT) 33 But when they came to Jesus and found that he was already dead, they did not break his legs. 34 Instead, one of the soldiers pierced(AU) Jesus’ side with a spear, bringing a sudden flow of blood and water.(AV) 35 The man who saw it(AW) has given testimony, and his testimony is true.(AX) He knows that he tells the truth, and he testifies so that you also may believe. 36 These things happened so that the scripture would be fulfilled:(AY) “Not one of his bones will be broken,”[c](AZ) 37 and, as another scripture says, “They will look on the one they have pierced.”[d](BA)
The Burial of Jesus(BB)
38 Later, Joseph of Arimathea asked Pilate for the body of Jesus. Now Joseph was a disciple of Jesus, but secretly because he feared the Jewish leaders.(BC) With Pilate’s permission, he came and took the body away. 39 He was accompanied by Nicodemus,(BD) the man who earlier had visited Jesus at night. Nicodemus brought a mixture of myrrh and aloes, about seventy-five pounds.[e] 40 Taking Jesus’ body, the two of them wrapped it, with the spices, in strips of linen.(BE) This was in accordance with Jewish burial customs.(BF) 41 At the place where Jesus was crucified, there was a garden, and in the garden a new tomb, in which no one had ever been laid. 42 Because it was the Jewish day of Preparation(BG) and since the tomb was nearby,(BH) they laid Jesus there.

10 Then saith Pilate unto him, Speakest thou not unto me? knowest thou not that I have power to crucify thee, and have power to release thee?
11 Jesus answered, Thou couldest have no power at all against me, except it were given thee from above: therefore he that delivered me unto thee hath the greater sin.
12 And from thenceforth Pilate sought to release him: but the Jews cried out, saying, If thou let this man go, thou art not Caesar's friend: whosoever maketh himself a king speaketh against Caesar.
13 When Pilate therefore heard that saying, he brought Jesus forth, and sat down in the judgment seat in a place that is called the Pavement, but in the Hebrew, Gabbatha.
14 And it was the preparation of the passover, and about the sixth hour: and he saith unto the Jews, Behold your King!
15 But they cried out, Away with him, away with him, crucify him. Pilate saith unto them, Shall I crucify your King? The chief priests answered, We have no king but Caesar.
16 Then delivered he him therefore unto them to be crucified. And they took Jesus, and led him away.
17 And he bearing his cross went forth into a place called the place of a skull, which is called in the Hebrew Golgotha:
18 Where they crucified him, and two other with him, on either side one, and Jesus in the midst.
19 And Pilate wrote a title, and put it on the cross. And the writing was Jesus Of Nazareth The King Of The Jews.
20 This title then read many of the Jews: for the place where Jesus was crucified was nigh to the city: and it was written in Hebrew, and Greek, and Latin.
21 Then said the chief priests of the Jews to Pilate, Write not, The King of the Jews; but that he said, I am King of the Jews.
22 Pilate answered, What I have written I have written.
23 Then the soldiers, when they had crucified Jesus, took his garments, and made four parts, to every soldier a part; and also his coat: now the coat was without seam, woven from the top throughout.
24 They said therefore among themselves, Let us not rend it, but cast lots for it, whose it shall be: that the scripture might be fulfilled, which saith, They parted my raiment among them, and for my vesture they did cast lots. These things therefore the soldiers did.
25 Now there stood by the cross of Jesus his mother, and his mother's sister, Mary the wife of Cleophas, and Mary Magdalene.
26 When Jesus therefore saw his mother, and the disciple standing by, whom he loved, he saith unto his mother, Woman, behold thy son!
27 Then saith he to the disciple, Behold thy mother! And from that hour that disciple took her unto his own home.
28 After this, Jesus knowing that all things were now accomplished, that the scripture might be fulfilled, saith, I thirst.
29 Now there was set a vessel full of vinegar: and they filled a spunge with vinegar, and put it upon hyssop, and put it to his mouth.
30 When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, It is finished: and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost.
31 The Jews therefore, because it was the preparation, that the bodies should not remain upon the cross on the sabbath day, (for that sabbath day was an high day,) besought Pilate that their legs might be broken, and that they might be taken away.
32 Then came the soldiers, and brake the legs of the first, and of the other which was crucified with him.
33 But when they came to Jesus, and saw that he was dead already, they brake not his legs:
34 But one of the soldiers with a spear pierced his side, and forthwith came there out blood and water.
35 And he that saw it bare record, and his record is true: and he knoweth that he saith true, that ye might believe.
36 For these things were done, that the scripture should be fulfilled, A bone of him shall not be broken.
37 And again another scripture saith, They shall look on him whom they pierced.
38 And after this Joseph of Arimathaea, being a disciple of Jesus, but secretly for fear of the Jews, besought Pilate that he might take away the body of Jesus: and Pilate gave him leave. He came therefore, and took the body of Jesus.
39 And there came also Nicodemus, which at the first came to Jesus by night, and brought a mixture of myrrh and aloes, about an hundred pound weight.
40 Then took they the body of Jesus, and wound it in linen clothes with the spices, as the manner of the Jews is to bury.
41 Now in the place where he was crucified there was a garden; and in the garden a new sepulchre, wherein was never man yet laid.
42 There laid they Jesus therefore because of the Jews' preparation day; for the sepulchre was nigh at hand.
