¹⁷ But Jesus answered them, ^(A)“My Father has been working until now, and I have been working.”

¹⁸ Therefore the Jews ^(B)sought all the more to kill Him, because He not only broke the Sabbath, but also said that God was His Father, ^(C)making Himself equal with God. ¹⁹ Then Jesus answered and said to them, “Most assuredly, I say to you, ^(D)the Son can do nothing of Himself, but what He sees the Father do; for whatever He does, the Son also does in like manner. ²⁰ For ^(E)the Father loves the Son, and ^(F)shows Him all things that He Himself does; and He will show Him greater works than these, that you may marvel. ²¹ For as the Father raises the dead and gives life to them, ^(G)even so the Son gives life to whom He will. ²² For the Father judges no one, but ^(H)has committed all judgment to the Son, ²³ that all should honor the Son just as they honor the Father. ^(I)He who does not honor the Son does not honor the Father who sent Him.

Life and Judgment Are Through the Son

²⁴ “Most assuredly, I say to you, ^(J)he who hears My word and believes in Him who sent Me has everlasting life, and shall not come into judgment, ^(K)but has passed from death into life. ²⁵ Most assuredly, I say to you, the hour is coming, and now is, when ^(L)the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God; and those who hear will live. ²⁶ For ^(M)as the Father has life in Himself, so He has granted the Son to have ^(N)life in Himself, ²⁷ and ^(O)has given Him authority to execute judgment also, ^(P)because He is the Son of Man. ²⁸ Do not marvel at this; for the hour is coming in which all who are in the graves will ^(Q)hear His voice ^29 (R)and come forth—^(S)those who have done good, to the resurrection of life, and those who have done evil, to the resurrection of condemnation. ^30 (T)I can of Myself do nothing. As I hear, I judge; and My judgment is righteous, because ^(U)I do not seek My own will but the will of the Father who sent Me.

The Fourfold Witness

^31 (V)“If I bear witness of Myself, My witness is not ^[a]true. ^32 (W)There is another who bears witness of Me, and I know that the witness which He witnesses of Me is true. ³³ You have sent to John, ^(X)and he has borne witness to the truth. ³⁴ Yet I do not receive testimony from man, but I say these things that you may be saved. ³⁵ He was the burning and ^(Y)shining lamp, and ^(Z)you were willing for a time to rejoice in his light. ³⁶ But ^(AA)I have a greater witness than John’s; for ^(AB)the works which the Father has given Me to finish—the very ^(AC)works that I do—bear witness of Me, that the Father has sent Me. ³⁷ And the Father Himself, who sent Me, ^(AD)has testified of Me. You have neither heard His voice at any time, ^(AE)nor seen His form. ³⁸ But you do not have His word abiding in you, because whom He sent, Him you do not believe. ^39 (AF)You search the Scriptures, for in them you think you have eternal life; and ^(AG)these are they which testify of Me.

⁵⁷ Then the Jews said to Him, “You are not yet fifty years old, and have You seen Abraham?”

⁵⁸ Jesus said to them, “Most assuredly, I say to you, ^(A)before Abraham was, ^(B)I AM.”

⁵⁹ Then ^(C)they took up stones to throw at Him; but Jesus hid Himself and went out of the temple, ^(D)going^[a] through the midst of them, and so passed by.

^30 (A)I and My Father are one.”

Renewed Efforts to Stone Jesus

³¹ Then ^(B)the Jews took up stones again to stone Him. ³² Jesus answered them, “Many good works I have shown you from My Father. For which of those works do you stone Me?”

³³ The Jews answered Him, saying, “For a good work we do not stone You, but for ^(C)blasphemy, and because You, being a Man, ^(D)make Yourself God.”

³⁴ Jesus answered them, “Is it not written in your law, ^(E)‘I said, “You are gods” ’? ³⁵ If He called them gods, ^(F)to whom the word of God came (and the Scripture ^(G)cannot be broken), ³⁶ do you say of Him ^(H)whom the Father sanctified and ^(I)sent into the world, ‘You are blaspheming,’ ^(J)because I said, ‘I am ^(K)the Son of God’? ^37 (L)If I do not do the works of My Father, do not believe Me; ³⁸ but if I do, though you do not believe Me, ^(M)believe the works, that you may know and ^[a]believe ^(N)that the Father is in Me, and I in Him.” ^39 (O)Therefore they sought again to seize Him, but He escaped out of their hand.

^11 (A)Now I am no longer in the world, but these are in the world, and I come to You. Holy Father, ^(B)keep^[a] through Your name those whom You have given Me, that they may be one ^(C)as We are.

^21 (A)that they all may be one, as ^(B)You, Father, are in Me, and I in You; that they also may be one in Us, that the world may believe that You sent Me. ²² And the ^(C)glory which You gave Me I have given them, ^(D)that they may be one just as We are one:
