True Vision and True Blindness

35 Jesus heard that they had cast him out; and when He had (A)found him, He said to him, “Do you (B)believe in (C)the Son of [a]God?”

36 He answered and said, “Who is He, Lord, that I may believe in Him?”

37 And Jesus said to him, “You have both seen Him and (D)it is He who is talking with you.”

38 Then he said, “Lord, I believe!” And he (E)worshiped Him.

39 And Jesus said, (F)“For judgment I have come into this world, (G)that those who do not see may see, and that those who see may be made blind.”

40 Then some of the Pharisees who were with Him heard these words, (H)and said to Him, “Are we blind also?”

41 Jesus said to them, (I)“If you were blind, you would have no sin; but now you say, ‘We see.’ Therefore your sin remains.

Jesus the True Shepherd

10 “Most assuredly, I say to you, he who does not enter the sheepfold by the door, but climbs up some other way, the same is a thief and a robber. But he who enters by the door is the shepherd of the sheep. To him the doorkeeper opens, and the sheep hear his voice; and he calls his own sheep by (J)name and leads them out. And when he brings out his own sheep, he goes before them; and the sheep follow him, for they know his voice. Yet they will by no means follow a (K)stranger, but will flee from him, for they do not know the voice of strangers.” Jesus used this illustration, but they did not understand the things which He spoke to them.

Jesus the Good Shepherd

Then Jesus said to them again, “Most assuredly, I say to you, I am the door of the sheep. All who ever came [b]before Me are thieves and robbers, but the sheep did not hear them. (L)I am the door. If anyone enters by Me, he will be saved, and will go in and out and find pasture. 10 The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.

11 (M)“I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd gives His life for the sheep.

Spiritual Blindness

35 Jesus heard that they had thrown him out, and when he found him, he said, “Do you believe(A) in the Son of Man?”(B)

36 “Who is he, sir?” the man asked. “Tell me so that I may believe in him.”(C)

37 Jesus said, “You have now seen him; in fact, he is the one speaking with you.”(D)

38 Then the man said, “Lord, I believe,” and he worshiped him.(E)

39 Jesus said,[a] “For judgment(F) I have come into this world,(G) so that the blind will see(H) and those who see will become blind.”(I)

40 Some Pharisees who were with him heard him say this and asked, “What? Are we blind too?”(J)

41 Jesus said, “If you were blind, you would not be guilty of sin; but now that you claim you can see, your guilt remains.(K)

The Good Shepherd and His Sheep

10 “Very truly I tell you Pharisees, anyone who does not enter the sheep pen by the gate, but climbs in by some other way, is a thief and a robber.(L) The one who enters by the gate is the shepherd of the sheep.(M) The gatekeeper opens the gate for him, and the sheep listen to his voice.(N) He calls his own sheep by name and leads them out.(O) When he has brought out all his own, he goes on ahead of them, and his sheep follow him because they know his voice.(P) But they will never follow a stranger; in fact, they will run away from him because they do not recognize a stranger’s voice.” Jesus used this figure of speech,(Q) but the Pharisees did not understand what he was telling them.(R)

Therefore Jesus said again, “Very truly I tell you, I am(S) the gate(T) for the sheep. All who have come before me(U) are thieves and robbers,(V) but the sheep have not listened to them. I am the gate; whoever enters through me will be saved.[b] They will come in and go out, and find pasture. 10 The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life,(W) and have it to the full.(X)

11 “I am(Y) the good shepherd.(Z) The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep.(AA)

Sonship Through the Spirit

12 (A)Therefore, brethren, we are debtors—not to the flesh, to live according to the flesh. 13 For (B)if you live according to the flesh you will die; but if by the Spirit you (C)put to death the deeds of the body, you will live. 14 For (D)as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God. 15 For (E)you did not receive the spirit of bondage again (F)to fear, but you received the (G)Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, (H)“Abba,[a] Father.” 16 (I)The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God,

23 Not only that, but we also who have (A)the firstfruits of the Spirit, (B)even we ourselves groan (C)within ourselves, eagerly waiting for the adoption, the (D)redemption of our body. 24 For we were saved in this hope, but (E)hope that is seen is not hope; for why does one still hope for what he sees? 25 But if we hope for what we do not see, we eagerly wait for it with perseverance.

26 Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For (F)we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but (G)the Spirit Himself makes intercession [a]for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. 27 Now (H)He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is, because He makes intercession for the saints (I)according to the will of God.
