Assyrien, Werkzeug in Gottes Hand
8 Und der Herr sprach zu mir: Nimm dir eine große Tafel und schreibe darauf mit Menschengriffel: „Bald kommt Plünderung, eilends Raub!“ 2 Und ich verschaffte mir glaubwürdige Zeugen, Uria, den Priester, und Sacharia, den Sohn Jeberechias.
3 Und ich nahte mich der Prophetin, die empfing und gebar einen Sohn. Da sprach der Herr zu mir: Nenne ihn: „Bald kommt Plünderung, eilends Raub“. 4 Denn ehe der Knabe wird sagen können „Mein Vater“ und „Meine Mutter“, wird der Reichtum von Damaskus und die Beute Samariens vor dem assyrischen König einhergetragen werden.
5 Und der Herr fuhr fort zu mir zu reden und sprach:
6 Weil dieses Volk das stillrinnende Wasser Siloahs verachtet,
dagegen den Rezin hochachtet und den Sohn Remaljas,
7 siehe, so wird der Herr die starken und großen Wasser
des Stromes über sie bringen,
den assyrischen König mit seiner ganzen Macht.
Der wird sich über sein Bett ergießen
und über alle seine Ufer treten;
8 und wird daherfahren über Juda, es überschwemmen
und überfluten bis an den Hals;
und die Ausdehnung seiner Heeresflügel
wird die Breite deines Landes füllen, o Immanuel!
9 Seid unruhig, ihr Völker,
und erzittert!
Merket auf, ihr alle in fernen Landen;
rüstet euch und erzittert doch,
ja, rüstet euch und erzittert!
10 Beschließet einen Rat, es wird doch nichts daraus!
Verabredet etwas, es wird doch nicht ausgeführt;
denn mit uns ist Gott!
Gott fürchten und auf ihn harren
11 Denn also hat der Herr zu mir gesprochen, und er faßte mich fest bei der Hand und warnte mich, daß ich nicht wandeln solle den Weg dieses Volkes:
12 Nennet nicht alles Verschwörung, was dieses Volk Verschwörung nennt,
und vor dem, was es fürchtet, fürchtet euch nicht und erschrecket nicht davor!
13 Heiliget aber den Herrn der Heerscharen;
der flöße euch Furcht und Schrecken ein!
14 So wird er zum Heiligtum werden;
aber zum Stein des Anstoßes
und zum Fels des Strauchelns den beiden Häusern Israels,
zum Fallstrick und zur Schlinge
den Bewohnern Jerusalems,
15 so daß viele unter ihnen straucheln und fallen,
zerbrochen, verstrickt und gefangen werden.
16 [Ich] binde das Zeugnis zusammen,
versiegle die Lehre in meinen Jüngern
17 und warte auf den Herrn,
der sein Antlitz vor dem Hause Jakobs verborgen hat,
und hoffe auf ihn.
18 Siehe, ich und die Kinder, die mir der Herr gegeben hat, wir sind Zeichen und Warnungen für Israel von dem Herrn der Heerscharen, der auf dem Berge Zion wohnt.
19 Wenn sie euch aber sagen werden: Befraget die Totenbeschwörer und Wahrsager, welche flüstern und murmeln, [so antwortet ihnen]: Soll nicht ein Volk seinen Gott befragen, oder soll man die Toten für die Lebendigen befragen? „Zum Gesetz und zum Zeugnis!“ 20 wenn sie nicht also sprechen, gibt es für sie kein Morgenrot. 21 Und sie schleichen gedrückt und hungrig im Finstern umher, und wenn sie Hunger leiden, werden sie zornig und schmähen ihren König und ihren Gott. 22 Wenden sie sich dann nach oben, oder sehen sie auf die Erde, siehe, so ist da Not und Finsternis, beängstigendes Dunkel, und in die Nacht sieht man sich verstoßen.

23 [9:1] Doch bleibt nicht im Dunkel das Land, das bedrängt ist. Wie er in der ersten Zeit das Land Sebulon und das Land Naphtali gering machte, so wird er in der Folgezeit zu Ehren bringen den Weg am Meere[a], jenseits des Jordan, das Galiläa der Heiden.

8 Then the Lord said to me, “Take a large tablet (A)and write on it in common characters,[a] ‘Belonging to Maher-shalal-hash-baz.’[b] 2 And (B)I will get reliable witnesses, (C)Uriah the priest and Zechariah the son of Jeberechiah, to attest for me.”
3 And I went to the prophetess, and she conceived and bore a son. Then the Lord said to me, (D)“Call his name Maher-shalal-hash-baz; 4 (E)for before the boy knows how to cry ‘My father’ or ‘My mother,’ the (F)wealth of (G)Damascus and the spoil of (H)Samaria will be carried away before the king of Assyria.”
5 The Lord spoke to me again: 6 “Because this people has refused the waters of (I)Shiloah that flow gently, and rejoice over (J)Rezin and the son of Remaliah, 7 therefore, behold, the Lord is bringing up against them (K)the waters of (L)the River,[c] mighty and many, the king of Assyria and all his glory. And it (M)will rise over all its channels and go over all its banks, 8 and it will sweep on into Judah, it will overflow and pass on, (N)reaching even to the neck, and its (O)outspread wings will fill the breadth of your land, (P)O Immanuel.”
9 Be broken,[d] you peoples, and (Q)be shattered;[e]
give ear, all you far countries;
strap on your armor and be shattered;
strap on your armor and be shattered.
10 Take counsel together, but it will come to nothing;
speak a word, (R)but it will not stand,
for God (S)is with us.[f]
Fear God, Wait for the Lord
11 For the Lord spoke thus to me with his strong hand upon me, and (T)warned me not to walk in the way of this people, saying: 12 “Do not call (U)conspiracy all that this people calls conspiracy, and (V)do not fear what they fear, nor be in dread. 13 But the Lord of hosts, (W)him you shall honor as holy. Let him be your fear, and let him be your dread. 14 And he will become a (X)sanctuary and (Y)a stone of offense and a rock of stumbling to both houses of Israel, a trap and a snare to the inhabitants of Jerusalem. 15 And many (Z)shall stumble on it. They shall fall and be broken; they shall be snared and taken.”
16 Bind up (AA)the testimony; (AB)seal the teaching[g] among my disciples. 17 I will (AC)wait for the Lord, who is (AD)hiding his face from the house of Jacob, and I will hope in him. 18 (AE)Behold, I and (AF)the children whom the Lord has given me are signs and portents in Israel from the Lord of hosts, who dwells on Mount Zion. 19 And when they say to you, “Inquire of the (AG)mediums and the necromancers who chirp and mutter,” should not a people inquire of their God? Should they inquire of (AH)the dead on behalf of the living? 20 (AI)To the teaching and to the testimony! If they will not speak according to this word, it is because they have no (AJ)dawn. 21 They will pass through the land,[h] greatly distressed and hungry. And when they are hungry, they will be enraged and will speak contemptuously against[i] their king and their God, and turn their faces upward. 22 (AK)And they will look to the earth, but behold, distress and darkness, the gloom of anguish. And they will be thrust into (AL)thick darkness.
