64 Ó, að þú sundurrifir himininn og færir ofan, svo að fjöllin nötruðu fyrir augliti þínu _ eins og þegar eldur kveikir í þurru limi eða þegar eldur kemur vatni til að vella, _ til þess að gjöra óvinum þínum kunnugt nafn þitt, svo að þjóðirnar mættu skjálfa fyrir augliti þínu,
2 er þú framkvæmdir hræðilega hluti, sem vér gátum eigi vænst eftir. Þú fórst ofan, fjöllin nötruðu fyrir augliti þínu.
3 Frá alda öðli hefir enginn haft spurn af eða heyrt, né auga séð nokkurn Guð nema þig, þann er gjöri slíkt fyrir þá, er á hann vona.
4 Þú kemur í móti þeim er gjöra með gleði það, sem rétt er, þeim er minnast þín á vegum þínum. Sjá, þú reiddist, og vér urðum brotlegir, _ yfir tryggðrofi voru, og vér urðum sakfallnir.
5 Vér urðum allir sem óhreinn maður, allar dyggðir vorar sem saurgað klæði. Vér visnuðum allir sem laufblað, og misgjörðir vorar feyktu oss burt eins og vindur.
6 Enginn ákallar nafn þitt, enginn herðir sig upp til þess að halda fast við þig, því að þú hefir byrgt auglit þitt fyrir oss og gefið oss á vald misgjörðum vorum.
7 En nú, Drottinn! Þú ert faðir vor! Vér erum leirinn, og þú ert sá, er myndar oss, og handaverk þín erum vér allir!
8 Reiðst eigi, Drottinn, svo stórlega, og minnstu eigi misgjörða vorra eilíflega. Æ, lít þú á: Vér erum allir þitt fólk.
9 Þínar heilögu borgir eru orðnar að eyðimörk. Síon er orðin að eyðimörk, Jerúsalem komin í auðn.
10 Hið heilaga og veglega musteri vort, þar sem feður vorir vegsömuðu þig, er brunnið upp til kaldra kola, og allt það, sem oss var dýrmætt, er orðið að rústum.
11 Hvort fær þú, Drottinn, leitt slíkt hjá þér? Getur þú þagað og þjáð oss svo stórlega?

64 Oh, squarciassi tu i cieli e scendessi! Davanti a te sarebbero scossi i monti.
2 Come il fuoco brucia i rami secchi, come il fuoco fa bollir l'acqua, scendi per far conoscere il tuo nome ai tuoi avversari e far tremare le nazioni davanti a te.
3 Quando facesti cose tremende che non ci aspettavamo, tu discendesti e i monti furono scossi alla tua presenza.
4 Dall'antichità nessuno aveva mai sentito né orecchio udito né occhio visto alcun DIO all'infuori di te, che agisce per chi spera in lui.
5 Tu vai incontro a chi gode nel praticare la giustizia e si ricorda di te nelle tue vie. Ecco, tu ti sei adirato perché noi abbiamo peccato; in questo abbiamo continuato a lungo e abbiamo bisogno di essere salvati.
6 Siamo tutti come una cosa impura, e tutte le nostre opere di giustizia sono come un abito sporco; avvizziamo tutti come una foglia, e le nostre iniquità ci portano via come il vento.
7 Non c'è piú alcuno che invochi il tuo nome, che si scuota per afferrarsi a te perché tu ci hai nascosto la tua faccia e ci lasci consumare in balìa delle nostre iniquità.
8 Tuttavia, o Eterno, tu sei nostro padre; noi siamo l'argilla e tu colui che ci formi; noi tutti siamo opera delle tue mani.
9 Non adirarti troppo, o Eterno, e non ricordarti dell'iniquità per sempre. Ecco, guarda, ti preghiamo: noi tutti siamo il tuo popolo
10 Le tue sante città sono diventate un deserto, Sion è diventata un deserto, Gerusalemme una desolazione.
11 Il nostro santo e magnifico tempio, dove i nostri padri ti celebrarono, è divenuto preda del fuoco e tutte le nostre cose piú care sono state devastate.
12 Davanti a queste cose ti conterrai ancora, o Eterno, tacerai e ci affliggerai ancora molto? Giudizio per i malvagi e salvezza per il residuo

64 [a]Oh, that you would rend the heavens(A) and come down,(B)
that the mountains(C) would tremble before you!
2 As when fire sets twigs ablaze
and causes water to boil,
come down to make your name(D) known to your enemies
and cause the nations to quake(E) before you!
3 For when you did awesome(F) things that we did not expect,
you came down, and the mountains trembled(G) before you.
4 Since ancient times no one has heard,
no ear has perceived,
no eye has seen any God besides you,(H)
who acts on behalf of those who wait for him.(I)
5 You come to the help of those who gladly do right,(J)
who remember your ways.
But when we continued to sin against them,
you were angry.(K)
How then can we be saved?
6 All of us have become like one who is unclean,(L)
and all our righteous(M) acts are like filthy rags;
we all shrivel up like a leaf,(N)
and like the wind our sins sweep us away.(O)
7 No one(P) calls on your name(Q)
or strives to lay hold of you;
for you have hidden(R) your face from us
and have given us over(S) to[b] our sins.
8 Yet you, Lord, are our Father.(T)
We are the clay, you are the potter;(U)
we are all the work of your hand.(V)
9 Do not be angry(W) beyond measure, Lord;
do not remember our sins(X) forever.
Oh, look on us, we pray,
for we are all your people.(Y)
10 Your sacred cities(Z) have become a wasteland;
even Zion is a wasteland, Jerusalem a desolation.(AA)
11 Our holy and glorious temple,(AB) where our ancestors praised you,
has been burned with fire,
and all that we treasured(AC) lies in ruins.
12 After all this, Lord, will you hold yourself back?(AD)
Will you keep silent(AE) and punish us beyond measure?
