Israel soll sein ganzes Vertrauen auf den Herrn setzen
41 Höret mir schweigend zu, ihr Inseln,
und die Völker mögen neue Kraft gewinnen!
Sie sollen herzukommen, alsdann mögen sie reden;
wir wollen zusammenkommen, um miteinander zu rechten!
2 Wer hat vom Aufgang her den erweckt,
welchem Gerechtigkeit begegnet auf Schritt und Tritt?
Wer gibt Völker vor ihm hin und unterwirft ihm Könige?
Wer macht sie vor seinem Schwert wie Staub
und vor seinem Bogen wie verwehte Stoppeln?
3 Er verfolgt sie, zieht hin in Frieden einen Pfad,
den er mit seinen Füßen nie zuvor betrat.
4 Wer hat es bewirkt und ausgeführt?
Er, der die Geschlechter von Anbeginn gerufen:
Ich, der Herr, der ich der Erste
und auch bei den Letzten noch derselbe bin!
5 Die Inseln schauen und schaudern,
die Enden der Welt erschrecken:
sie nähern sich und kommen herzu.
6 Einer hilft dem andern
und spricht zu seinem Bruder: Sei getrost!
7 Der Schmied ermutigt den Gießer,
der mit dem Hammer Glättende den, der auf den Ambos schlägt,
indem er von der Lötung sagt: Sie ist gut!
Und er heftet es mit Nägeln, damit es nicht wackle.
8 Du aber, Israel, mein Knecht,
Jakob, mein Auserwählter,
du Same Abrahams, meines Freundes;
9 welchen ich von den Enden der Erde genommen
und aus ihren Winkeln berufen
und zu dem ich gesprochen habe: Du bist mein Knecht,
ich habe dich auserwählt und verwerfe dich nicht; -
10 fürchte dich nicht; denn ich bin mit dir;
sei nicht ängstlich, denn ich bin dein Gott;
ich stärke dich, ich helfe dir auch,
ich erhalte dich durch die rechte Hand meiner Gerechtigkeit.
11 Siehe, zuschanden und zu Spott werden alle,
die wider dich zürnten;
es werden zunichte und kommen um
die Männer, die mit dir zankten.
12 Du wirst sie suchen, aber nicht finden,
die Leute, welche mit dir haderten;
wie nichts und gar nichts werden die Männer,
die wider dich stritten.
13 Denn ich, der Herr, dein Gott,
ergreife deine rechte Hand
und sage dir: Fürchte dich nicht; ich helfe dir!
14 Erschrick nicht, du Würmlein Jakob,
du Häuflein Israel;
denn ich helfe dir, spricht der Herr,
und dein Erlöser ist der Heilige Israels.
15 Siehe, ich mache dich zu einem neuen,
scharfschneidenden Dreschwagen:
du wirst Berge zerdreschen und zermalmen
und Hügel der Spreu gleichmachen[a];
16 du wirst sie worfeln, und der Wind wird sie davontragen,
und der Sturmwind wird sie zerstreuen;
du aber wirst an dem Herrn Freude haben
und dich des Heiligen Israels rühmen.
17 Die Elenden und Armen suchen Wasser und finden keines;
ihre Zunge verdorrt vor Durst.
Ich, der Herr, will sie erhören;
ich, der Gott Israels, will sie nicht verlassen.
18 Ich öffne Bäche auf kahlen Höhen
und Brunnen inmitten der Täler;
ich mache die Wüste zum Wasserteich
und dürres Erdreich zu Wasserquellen.
19 Ich setze Zedern, Akazien,
Myrten und Ölbäume in der Wüste;
ich pflanze Zypressen, Platanen und Buchsbäume
zumal in der Steppe;
20 daß alle miteinander sehen und merken,
zu Herzen fassen und ermessen,
daß die Hand des Herrn solches gemacht,
der Heilige Israels es geschaffen hat.
21 Bringt eure Streitsache her,
spricht der Herr,
suchet eure stärksten Gründe hervor,
spricht der König Jakobs.
22 Sie mögen hervortreten und uns anzeigen,
was begegnen wird!
Wie fängt es an?
Saget an, so wollen wir achtgeben,
um seinen Ausgang zu erkennen;
oder lasset uns hören, was kommen wird!
23 Saget uns was hernach geschehen wird,
so werden wir erkennen, daß ihr Götter seid;
tut doch etwas Gutes oder Böses,
so wollen wir uns verwundern und fürchten zumal!
24 Siehe, ihr seid gar nichts,
und euer Tun ist ganz umsonst;
verabscheuungswürdig ist, wer euch erwählt!
25 Ich habe von Norden her einen erweckt, und er ist gekommen,
von Sonnenaufgang her, ihn, der meinen Namen anruft.
Er wird über Fürsten kommen wie über Lehm
und wird sie zertreten, wie ein Töpfer den Ton.
26 Wer hat das von Anbeginn verkündigt, daß wir es wußten,
und wer zum voraus, daß wir sagten: Er hat recht?
Aber da ist keiner, der es kundtäte, keiner, der es hören ließe,
niemand, der Worte von euch vernähme!
27 Ich, als Erster, sage zu Zion: „Siehe, da sind sie!“
und gebe Jerusalem einen Freudenboten.
28 Denn ich sehe mich um, aber da ist niemand,
und unter diesen ist kein Ratgeber,
den ich fragen könnte und der mir Antwort gäbe.
29 Siehe, sie alle sind nutzlos,
ihr Tun ist vergeblich,
ihre gegossenen Bilder sind ein leerer Wahn!

41 “Listen in silence before me, you lands beyond the sea.
Bring your strongest arguments.
Come now and speak.
The court is ready for your case.
2 “Who has stirred up this king from the east,
rightly calling him to God’s service?
Who gives this man victory over many nations
and permits him to trample their kings underfoot?
With his sword, he reduces armies to dust.
With his bow, he scatters them like chaff before the wind.
3 He chases them away and goes on safely,
though he is walking over unfamiliar ground.
4 Who has done such mighty deeds,
summoning each new generation from the beginning of time?
It is I, the Lord, the First and the Last.
I alone am he.”
5 The lands beyond the sea watch in fear.
Remote lands tremble and mobilize for war.
6 The idol makers encourage one another,
saying to each other, “Be strong!”
7 The carver encourages the goldsmith,
and the molder helps at the anvil.
“Good,” they say. “It’s coming along fine.”
Carefully they join the parts together,
then fasten the thing in place so it won’t fall over.
8 “But as for you, Israel my servant,
Jacob my chosen one,
descended from Abraham my friend,
9 I have called you back from the ends of the earth,
saying, ‘You are my servant.’
For I have chosen you
and will not throw you away.
10 Don’t be afraid, for I am with you.
Don’t be discouraged, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you and help you.
I will hold you up with my victorious right hand.
11 “See, all your angry enemies lie there,
confused and humiliated.
Anyone who opposes you will die
and come to nothing.
12 You will look in vain
for those who tried to conquer you.
Those who attack you
will come to nothing.
13 For I hold you by your right hand—
I, the Lord your God.
And I say to you,
‘Don’t be afraid. I am here to help you.
14 Though you are a lowly worm, O Jacob,
don’t be afraid, people of Israel, for I will help you.
I am the Lord, your Redeemer.
I am the Holy One of Israel.’
15 You will be a new threshing instrument
with many sharp teeth.
You will tear your enemies apart,
making chaff of mountains.
16 You will toss them into the air,
and the wind will blow them all away;
a whirlwind will scatter them.
Then you will rejoice in the Lord.
You will glory in the Holy One of Israel.
17 “When the poor and needy search for water and there is none,
and their tongues are parched from thirst,
then I, the Lord, will answer them.
I, the God of Israel, will never abandon them.
18 I will open up rivers for them on the high plateaus.
I will give them fountains of water in the valleys.
I will fill the desert with pools of water.
Rivers fed by springs will flow across the parched ground.
19 I will plant trees in the barren desert—
cedar, acacia, myrtle, olive, cypress, fir, and pine.
20 I am doing this so all who see this miracle
will understand what it means—
that it is the Lord who has done this,
the Holy One of Israel who created it.
21 “Present the case for your idols,”
says the Lord.
“Let them show what they can do,”
says the King of Israel.[a]
22 “Let them try to tell us what happened long ago
so that we may consider the evidence.
Or let them tell us what the future holds,
so we can know what’s going to happen.
23 Yes, tell us what will occur in the days ahead.
Then we will know you are gods.
In fact, do anything—good or bad!
Do something that will amaze and frighten us.
24 But no! You are less than nothing and can do nothing at all.
Those who choose you pollute themselves.
25 “But I have stirred up a leader who will approach from the north.
From the east he will call on my name.
I will give him victory over kings and princes.
He will trample them as a potter treads on clay.
26 “Who told you from the beginning
that this would happen?
Who predicted this,
making you admit that he was right?
No one said a word!
27 I was the first to tell Zion,
‘Look! Help is on the way!’[b]
I will send Jerusalem a messenger with good news.
28 Not one of your idols told you this.
Not one gave any answer when I asked.
29 See, they are all foolish, worthless things.
All your idols are as empty as the wind.

41 “Be silent(A) before me, you islands!(B)
Let the nations renew their strength!(C)
Let them come forward(D) and speak;
let us meet together(E) at the place of judgment.
2 “Who has stirred(F) up one from the east,(G)
calling him in righteousness(H) to his service[a]?(I)
He hands nations over to him
and subdues kings before him.
He turns them to dust(J) with his sword,
to windblown chaff(K) with his bow.(L)
3 He pursues them and moves on unscathed,(M)
by a path his feet have not traveled before.
4 Who has done this and carried it through,
calling(N) forth the generations from the beginning?(O)
I, the Lord—with the first of them
and with the last(P)—I am he.(Q)”
5 The islands(R) have seen it and fear;
the ends of the earth(S) tremble.
They approach and come forward;
6 they help each other
and say to their companions, “Be strong!(T)”
7 The metalworker(U) encourages the goldsmith,(V)
and the one who smooths with the hammer
spurs on the one who strikes the anvil.
One says of the welding, “It is good.”
The other nails down the idol so it will not topple.(W)
8 “But you, Israel, my servant,(X)
Jacob, whom I have chosen,(Y)
you descendants of Abraham(Z) my friend,(AA)
9 I took you from the ends of the earth,(AB)
from its farthest corners I called(AC) you.
I said, ‘You are my servant’;(AD)
I have chosen(AE) you and have not rejected you.
10 So do not fear,(AF) for I am with you;(AG)
do not be dismayed, for I am your God.
I will strengthen(AH) you and help(AI) you;
I will uphold you(AJ) with my righteous right hand.(AK)
11 “All who rage(AL) against you
will surely be ashamed and disgraced;(AM)
those who oppose(AN) you
will be as nothing and perish.(AO)
12 Though you search for your enemies,
you will not find them.(AP)
Those who wage war against you
will be as nothing(AQ) at all.
13 For I am the Lord your God
who takes hold of your right hand(AR)
and says to you, Do not fear;
I will help(AS) you.
14 Do not be afraid,(AT) you worm(AU) Jacob,
little Israel, do not fear,
for I myself will help(AV) you,” declares the Lord,
your Redeemer,(AW) the Holy One(AX) of Israel.
15 “See, I will make you into a threshing sledge,(AY)
new and sharp, with many teeth.
You will thresh the mountains(AZ) and crush them,
and reduce the hills to chaff.(BA)
16 You will winnow(BB) them, the wind will pick them up,
and a gale(BC) will blow them away.(BD)
But you will rejoice(BE) in the Lord
and glory(BF) in the Holy One(BG) of Israel.
17 “The poor and needy search for water,(BH)
but there is none;
their tongues are parched with thirst.(BI)
But I the Lord will answer(BJ) them;
I, the God of Israel, will not forsake(BK) them.
18 I will make rivers flow(BL) on barren heights,
and springs within the valleys.
I will turn the desert(BM) into pools of water,(BN)
and the parched ground into springs.(BO)
19 I will put in the desert(BP)
the cedar and the acacia,(BQ) the myrtle and the olive.
I will set junipers(BR) in the wasteland,
the fir and the cypress(BS) together,(BT)
20 so that people may see and know,(BU)
may consider and understand,(BV)
that the hand(BW) of the Lord has done this,
that the Holy One(BX) of Israel has created(BY) it.
21 “Present your case,(BZ)” says the Lord.
“Set forth your arguments,” says Jacob’s King.(CA)
22 “Tell us, you idols,
what is going to happen.(CB)
Tell us what the former things(CC) were,
so that we may consider them
and know their final outcome.
Or declare to us the things to come,(CD)
23 tell us what the future holds,
so we may know(CE) that you are gods.
Do something, whether good or bad,(CF)
so that we will be dismayed(CG) and filled with fear.
24 But you are less than nothing(CH)
and your works are utterly worthless;(CI)
whoever chooses you is detestable.(CJ)
25 “I have stirred(CK) up one from the north,(CL) and he comes—
one from the rising sun who calls on my name.
He treads(CM) on rulers as if they were mortar,
as if he were a potter treading the clay.
26 Who told of this from the beginning,(CN) so we could know,
or beforehand, so we could say, ‘He was right’?
No one told of this,
no one foretold(CO) it,
no one heard any words(CP) from you.
27 I was the first to tell(CQ) Zion, ‘Look, here they are!’
I gave to Jerusalem a messenger of good news.(CR)
28 I look but there is no one(CS)—
no one among the gods to give counsel,(CT)
no one to give answer(CU) when I ask them.
29 See, they are all false!
Their deeds amount to nothing;(CV)
their images(CW) are but wind(CX) and confusion.
