Rättfärdighetens rike
32 Se, en kung skall regera i rättfärdighet,
furstar skall styra med rättvisa.
2 En man skall vara som en tillflykt i stormen,
som ett skydd mot störtskuren,
som vattenbäckar i en ödemark,
som skuggan av en väldig klippa
i ett törstigt land.
3 De som har ögon att se med
skall inte vara förblindade,
de som har öron att höra med skall lyssna.
4 De obetänksammas hjärtan
skall förstå kunskap,
och de stammandes tunga
skall tala flytande och klart.
5 Dåren skall då inte mer kallas ädel,
girigbuken inte kallas frikostig.
6 Ty en dåre talar dårskap,
hans hjärta gör det som är orätt,
så att han handlar ogudaktigt
och sprider villoläror om Herren.
Han svälter ut den hungriges själ
och hindrar den törstige att dricka.
7 Girigbukens vapen är onda,
han tänker ut ondskefulla anslag
för att fördärva de betryckta genom lögnaktiga ord
och den fattige när han vädjar om rättvisa.
8 Men den ädle tänker ädla tankar,
han står fast vid det som är ädelt.
Dom och upprättelse
9 Ni kvinnor som är så säkra,
res er upp och hör min röst.
Ni självsäkra döttrar,
lyssna till mina ord.
10 När dagar lagts till år skall ni darra,
ni som är så sorglösa,
ty vinskörden uteblir,
ingen fruktskörd kommer mer.
11 Bäva, ni som är så säkra,
darra, ni som är så sorglösa,
lägg av era kläder och blotta er,
bär säcktyg runt era höfter!
12 Slå er för bröstet,
klaga över de vackra fälten,
över de fruktbara vinstockarna,
13 över mitt folks åkrar,
där törne och tistel skjuter upp,
ja, över alla glädjens boningar i den yra staden.
14 Ty palatset blir övergivet,
den folkrika staden lämnas öde.
Ofelhöjden med tornet förvandlas till grotthålor för evig tid,
till glädje för vildåsnor
och bete för hjordar -
15 detta till dess att Anden från höjden blir utgjuten över oss
och öknen blir ett bördigt fält,
och det bördiga fältet räknas som skog.
16 Då skall rätten ta sin boning i öknen,
rättfärdigheten bo på det bördiga fältet.
17 Rättfärdighetens frukt skall vara frid,
och rättfärdighetens vinning vara ro och trygghet till evig tid.
18 Mitt folk skall bo i fridfulla hem,
i trygga boningar och på säkra viloplatser.
19 Men hagel skall falla när skogen fälls,
och staden skall bli djupt förödmjukad.
20 Lyckliga är ni som sår vid alla vatten
och låter oxen och åsnan fritt ströva omkring.

Profetia om fred för Israel
32 En kung kommer, som ska råda i rättfärdighet och härskare som ska regera med rättvisa.
2 Var man ska då vara som en tillflykt i stormen och som ett skydd för vinden, som vattenströmmar i ödemarken och som den svalkande skuggan av en väldig klippa i öknen.
3 Då ska till slut Israels ögon öppnas, så att man ser Gud och lyssnar till hans röst.
4 Till och med de mest otåliga kommer att se och förstå, och de som stammar av osäkerhet ska kunna tala flytande.
5 Dåren kommer inte längre att kallas ädel och bedragare inte längre att respekteras.
6 Alla ska känna igen en dåre på hans tal, som är fullt av ondska. Hans lögner om Gud och oförmåga att hjälpa medmänniskor avslöjar honom.
7 Hans metoder är lömska och han förnekar även de mest uppenbara behov bland de fattiga.
8 Men en ädel människa har goda planer och står för det som är rätt.
9 Hör här, ni kvinnor som är så godtrogna och känner er så osäkra! Lyssna på vad jag har att säga!
10 Snart, inom drygt ett år, kommer ni att få bekymmer. Vinskörden kommer att slå fel och det blir dåligt med frukt.
11 Ni har all anledning att vara oroliga och bekymrade! Klä er i säcktyg och sörj!
12 Sörj över era bördiga åkerfält, som snart är borta, och över den uteblivna vinskörden!
13 Ert land kommer att översållas av tistlar och törnen. Era lyckliga hem och sorglösa städer finns snart inte längre.
14 Befästningar ska överges, och städerna kommer att tömmas på folk. Där det var rikt bete för åsnor kommer får och getter att vallas,
15 tills slutligen Herrens Ande från himlen faller över landet. Då ska öknen bli bördig mark och åkrarna bära dyrbara skogar.
16 Rätt och rättvisa ska härska i hela landet,
17 och med rättvisan följer frid, lugn och trygghet som ska vara i evighet.
18 Mitt folk ska bo tryggt och ha en säker plats,
19 men assyrierna ska förgöras och deras städer läggas i ruiner.
20 Gud ska välsigna sitt folk. Överallt ska rika skördar mogna, och deras boskap ska beta fritt i landet.

The Kingdom of Righteousness
32 See, a king(A) will reign in righteousness
and rulers will rule with justice.(B)
2 Each one will be like a shelter(C) from the wind
and a refuge from the storm,(D)
like streams of water(E) in the desert(F)
and the shadow of a great rock in a thirsty land.
3 Then the eyes of those who see will no longer be closed,(G)
and the ears(H) of those who hear will listen.
4 The fearful heart will know and understand,(I)
and the stammering tongue(J) will be fluent and clear.
5 No longer will the fool(K) be called noble
nor the scoundrel be highly respected.
6 For fools speak folly,(L)
their hearts are bent on evil:(M)
They practice ungodliness(N)
and spread error(O) concerning the Lord;
the hungry they leave empty(P)
and from the thirsty they withhold water.
7 Scoundrels use wicked methods,(Q)
they make up evil schemes(R)
to destroy the poor with lies,
even when the plea of the needy(S) is just.(T)
8 But the noble make noble plans,
and by noble deeds(U) they stand.(V)
The Women of Jerusalem
9 You women(W) who are so complacent,
rise up and listen(X) to me;
you daughters who feel secure,(Y)
hear what I have to say!
10 In little more than a year(Z)
you who feel secure will tremble;
the grape harvest will fail,(AA)
and the harvest of fruit will not come.
11 Tremble,(AB) you complacent women;
shudder, you daughters who feel secure!(AC)
Strip off your fine clothes(AD)
and wrap yourselves in rags.(AE)
12 Beat your breasts(AF) for the pleasant fields,
for the fruitful vines(AG)
13 and for the land of my people,
a land overgrown with thorns and briers(AH)—
yes, mourn(AI) for all houses of merriment
and for this city of revelry.(AJ)
14 The fortress(AK) will be abandoned,
the noisy city deserted;(AL)
citadel and watchtower(AM) will become a wasteland forever,
the delight of donkeys,(AN) a pasture for flocks,(AO)
15 till the Spirit(AP) is poured on us from on high,
and the desert becomes a fertile field,(AQ)
and the fertile field seems like a forest.(AR)
16 The Lord’s justice(AS) will dwell in the desert,(AT)
his righteousness(AU) live in the fertile field.
17 The fruit of that righteousness(AV) will be peace;(AW)
its effect will be quietness and confidence(AX) forever.
18 My people will live in peaceful(AY) dwelling places,
in secure homes,(AZ)
in undisturbed places of rest.(BA)
19 Though hail(BB) flattens the forest(BC)
and the city is leveled(BD) completely,
20 how blessed you will be,
sowing(BE) your seed by every stream,(BF)
and letting your cattle and donkeys range free.(BG)

32 Behold, a king shall reign in righteousness, and princes shall rule in judgment.
2 And a man shall be as an hiding place from the wind, and a covert from the tempest; as rivers of water in a dry place, as the shadow of a great rock in a weary land.
3 And the eyes of them that see shall not be dim, and the ears of them that hear shall hearken.
4 The heart also of the rash shall understand knowledge, and the tongue of the stammerers shall be ready to speak plainly.
5 The vile person shall be no more called liberal, nor the churl said to be bountiful.
6 For the vile person will speak villany, and his heart will work iniquity, to practise hypocrisy, and to utter error against the Lord, to make empty the soul of the hungry, and he will cause the drink of the thirsty to fail.
7 The instruments also of the churl are evil: he deviseth wicked devices to destroy the poor with lying words, even when the needy speaketh right.
8 But the liberal deviseth liberal things; and by liberal things shall he stand.
9 Rise up, ye women that are at ease; hear my voice, ye careless daughters; give ear unto my speech.
10 Many days and years shall ye be troubled, ye careless women: for the vintage shall fail, the gathering shall not come.
11 Tremble, ye women that are at ease; be troubled, ye careless ones: strip you, and make you bare, and gird sackcloth upon your loins.
12 They shall lament for the teats, for the pleasant fields, for the fruitful vine.
13 Upon the land of my people shall come up thorns and briers; yea, upon all the houses of joy in the joyous city:
14 Because the palaces shall be forsaken; the multitude of the city shall be left; the forts and towers shall be for dens for ever, a joy of wild asses, a pasture of flocks;
15 Until the spirit be poured upon us from on high, and the wilderness be a fruitful field, and the fruitful field be counted for a forest.
16 Then judgment shall dwell in the wilderness, and righteousness remain in the fruitful field.
17 And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance for ever.
18 And my people shall dwell in a peaceable habitation, and in sure dwellings, and in quiet resting places;
19 When it shall hail, coming down on the forest; and the city shall be low in a low place.
20 Blessed are ye that sow beside all waters, that send forth thither the feet of the ox and the ass.

5 The foolish person will no longer be called [c]generous,
Nor the miser said to be bountiful;
6 For the foolish person will speak foolishness,
And his heart will work (E)iniquity:
To practice ungodliness,
To utter error against the Lord,
To keep the hungry unsatisfied,
And he will cause the drink of the thirsty to fail.
7 Also the schemes of the schemer are evil;
He devises wicked plans
To destroy the poor with (F)lying words,
Even when the needy speaks justice.
8 But a [d]generous man devises generous things,
And by generosity he shall stand.
Consequences of Complacency
9 Rise up, you women (G)who are at ease,
Hear my voice;
You complacent daughters,
Give ear to my speech.
10 In a year and some days
You will be troubled, you complacent women;
For the vintage will fail,
The gathering will not come.
11 Tremble, you women who are at ease;
Be troubled, you complacent ones;
Strip yourselves, make yourselves bare,
And gird sackcloth on your waists.
12 People shall mourn upon their breasts
For the pleasant fields, for the fruitful vine.
13 (H)On the land of my people will come up thorns and briers,
Yes, on all the happy homes in (I)the joyous city;
14 (J)Because the palaces will be forsaken,
The bustling city will be deserted.
The forts and towers will become lairs forever,
A joy of wild donkeys, a pasture of flocks—
15 Until (K)the Spirit is poured upon us from on high,
And (L)the wilderness becomes a fruitful field,
And the fruitful field is counted as a forest.
The Peace of God’s Reign
16 Then justice will dwell in the wilderness,
And righteousness remain in the fruitful field.
17 (M)The work of righteousness will be peace,
And the effect of righteousness, quietness and assurance forever.
18 My people will dwell in a peaceful habitation,
In secure dwellings, and in quiet (N)resting places,
19 (O)Though hail comes down (P)on the forest,
And the city is brought low in humiliation.
20 Blessed are you who sow beside all waters,
Who send out freely the feet of (Q)the ox and the donkey.
