31 De stem van de Here zal de Assyriërs straffen, wanneer Hij hen met een stok slaat. 32 En telkens weer zal de Here de gesel op hen laten neerkomen, zoals iemand de maat van trommels en lieren slaat. 33 De offerplaats staat al enige tijd klaar, het brandhout is hoog opgestapeld. De adem van de Here, heet als het vuur uit een vulkaan, zal het hout aansteken.

New International Version
31 The voice of the Lord will shatter Assyria;(A)
with his rod he will strike(B) them down.
32 Every stroke the Lord lays on them
with his punishing club(C)
will be to the music of timbrels(D) and harps,
as he fights them in battle with the blows of his arm.(E)
33 Topheth(F) has long been prepared;
it has been made ready for the king.
Its fire pit has been made deep and wide,
with an abundance of fire and wood;
the breath(G) of the Lord,
like a stream of burning sulfur,(H)
sets it ablaze.(I)
