3 Denn siehe, der HERR HERR Zebaoth wird Jerusalem und Juda nehmen allerlei Vorrat, allen Vorrat des Brots und allen Vorrat des Wassers,
2 Starke und Kriegsleute, Richter, Propheten, Wahrsager und Älteste,
3 Hauptleute über fünfzig und vornehme Leute, Räte und weise Werkleute und kluge Redner.
4 Und ich will ihnen Jünglinge zu Fürsten geben, und Kindische sollen über sie herrschen.
5 Und das Volk wird Schinderei treiben, einer an dem andern und ein jeglicher an seinem Nächsten; und der Jüngere wird stolz sein gegen den Alten und der geringe Mann wider den geehrten.
6 Dann wird einer seinen Bruder aus seines Vaters Haus ergreifen: Du hast Kleider; sei unser Fürst, hilf du diesem Einsturz!
7 Er aber wird zu der Zeit schwören und sagen: Ich bin kein Arzt; es ist weder Brot noch Kleid in meinem Hause; setzt mich nicht zum Fürsten im Volk!
8 Denn Jerusalem fällt dahin, und Juda liegt da, weil ihre Zunge und ihr Tun gegen den HERRN ist, daß sie den Augen seiner Majestät widerstreben.
9 Ihres Wesens haben sie kein Hehl und rühmen ihre Sünde wie die zu Sodom und verbergen sie nicht. Weh ihrer Seele! denn damit bringen sie sich selbst in alles Unglück.
10 Predigt von den Gerechten, daß sie es gut haben; denn sie werden die Frucht ihrer Werke essen.
11 Weh aber den Gottlosen! denn sie haben es übel, und es wird ihnen vergolten werden, wie sie es verdienen.
12 Kinder sind Gebieter meines Volkes, und Weiber herrschen über sie. Mein Volk, deine Leiter verführen dich und zerstören den Weg, da du gehen sollst.
13 Aber der HERR steht da, zu rechten, und ist aufgetreten, die Völker zu richten.
14 Und der HERR geht ins Gericht mit den Ältesten seines Volkes und mit seinen Fürsten: Denn ihr habt den Weinberg verderbt, und der Raub von den Armen ist in eurem Hause.
15 Warum zertretet ihr mein Volk und zerschlaget die Person der Elenden? spricht der HERR HERR Zebaoth.
16 Und der HERR spricht: Darum daß die Töchter Zions stolz sind und gehen mit aufgerichtetem Halse, mit geschminkten Angesichtern, treten einher und schwänzen und haben köstliche Schuhe an ihren Füßen,
17 so wird der HERR den Scheitel der Töchter Zions kahl machen, und der HERR wird ihr Geschmeide wegnehmen.
18 Zu der Zeit wird der HERR den Schmuck an den köstlichen Schuhen wegnehmen und die Heftel, die Spangen,
19 die Kettlein, die Armspangen, die Hauben,
20 die Flitter, die Gebräme, die Schnürlein, die Bisamäpfel, die Ohrenspangen,
21 die Ringe, die Haarbänder,
22 die Feierkleider, die Mäntel, die Schleier, die Beutel,
23 die Spiegel, die Koller, die Borten, die Überwürfe;
24 und es wird Gestank für guten Geruch sein, und ein Strick für einen Gürtel, und eine Glatze für krauses Haar, und für einen weiten Mantel ein enger Sack; solches alles anstatt deiner Schöne.
25 Die Mannschaft wird durchs Schwert fallen und deine Krieger im Streit.
26 Und ihre Tore werden trauern und klagen, und sie wird jämmerlich sitzen auf der Erde;

Het oordeel van God
3 God, de Here van de hemelse legers zal de voedselvoorraden en de watervoorraden van Jeruzalem en Juda uitputten 2 en hun leiders doden. Hij zal hun legers, rechters, profeten, oudsten, 3 legeraanvoerders, zakenlieden, advocaten, magiërs en waarzeggers vernietigen. 4 De koningen van Israël zullen kinderen lijken en met willekeur regeren. 5 Er zal totale anarchie heersen. Men zal elkaar vertrappen, buren zullen buren bestrijden, de jongeren zullen in opstand komen tegen ouderen en nietsnutten zullen fatsoenlijke mensen belachelijk maken.
6 In die dagen zal een man tegen zijn broer zeggen: ‘Jij hebt een mantel, wees daarom onze leider en neem deze puinhoop onder je hoede.’ 7 ‘Nee!’ zal hij antwoorden. ‘Ik kan jullie niet uit het slop halen! Ik heb geen eten of kleding. Je moet mij niet tot leider maken!’ 8 Israëls regering is machteloos en Juda kan niets doen, omdat zij in woord en daad tegen de Here zijn opgestaan en Hem niet willen vereren, zij beledigen openlijk zijn glorie. 9 De uitdrukking op hun gezichten getuigt tegen hen en laat zien dat zij schuldig zijn. Zij spreken onbekommerd over hun zonden, net als men in Sodom deed, zij schamen zich er zelfs niet voor. Het loopt slecht met hen af, maar het is hun eigen schuld.
10 Maar met de rechtvaardige en godvrezende man gaat het goed, een grote beloning staat hem te wachten. 11 Maar met de goddeloze loopt het slecht af, ook hij krijgt zijn verdiende loon.
12 Ach mijn volk! Uw verdrukkers zijn nog maar kinderen en vrouwen overheersen u. Uw leiders zijn misleiders geworden! Zij maken de rechte weg die vóór u lag tot een doolhof. 13 Maar de Here maakt Zich klaar voor zijn rechtszaak waarin Hij de volken als beklaagden oproept! 14 De eersten die de Here zal aanklagen, zijn de oudsten en de edelen, want zij hebben de armen beroofd. Zij hebben hun huizen met hun buit gevuld. 15 ‘Wat bezielt u dat u mijn volk vertrapt en weerlozen mishandelt?’ zal de Here van de hemelse legers hun vragen. 16 Daarna zal Hij de verwaande vrouwen van Jeruzalem berechten. Zij schrijden door de straten met hun neus in de lucht en met rinkelende ringen om hun enkels. Begerig lonken zij naar de mannen. 17 De Here zal een plaag sturen die hun schedels schurftig maakt en hen openlijk vernederen. 18 Zij zullen onder het lopen niet langer zelfverzekerd rinkelen. Want de Here zal hun mooie sieraden wegnemen, 19 hun halskettingen en armbanden en hun prachtige sluiers. 20 Verdwenen zijn dan hun hoofddoeken en enkelbanden, hoofdbanden, oorringen en parfums, 21 hun ringen en juwelen, 22 hun feestkleding, mantels, omslagdoeken, diademen en tasjes, 23 hun spiegeltjes, de fijne lingerie en de prachtige jurken. 24 In plaats van heerlijk naar parfum te ruiken, zullen zij stinken, in plaats van gordels zullen zij touwen gebruiken, hun prachtig gekapte haar zal uitvallen en zij zullen zakken dragen in plaats van mooie jurken. Al hun schoonheid zal verdwijnen en wat overblijft, is schaamte en vernedering. 25 Hun echtgenoten zullen in de strijd sneuvelen. 26 De vrouwen zullen huilend op de grond zitten, omdat ze geruïneerd zijn.

Judgment on Jerusalem and Judah
3 See now, the Lord,
the Lord Almighty,
is about to take from Jerusalem and Judah
both supply and support:(A)
all supplies of food(B) and all supplies of water,(C)
2 the hero and the warrior,(D)
the judge and the prophet,
the diviner(E) and the elder,(F)
3 the captain of fifty(G) and the man of rank,(H)
the counselor, skilled craftsman(I) and clever enchanter.(J)
4 “I will make mere youths their officials;
children will rule over them.”(K)
5 People will oppress each other—
man against man, neighbor against neighbor.(L)
The young will rise up against the old,
the nobody against the honored.
6 A man will seize one of his brothers
in his father’s house, and say,
“You have a cloak, you be our leader;
take charge of this heap of ruins!”
7 But in that day(M) he will cry out,
“I have no remedy.(N)
I have no food(O) or clothing in my house;
do not make me the leader of the people.”(P)
8 Jerusalem staggers,
Judah is falling;(Q)
their words(R) and deeds(S) are against the Lord,
defying(T) his glorious presence.
9 The look on their faces testifies(U) against them;
they parade their sin like Sodom;(V)
they do not hide it.
Woe to them!
They have brought disaster(W) upon themselves.
10 Tell the righteous it will be well(X) with them,
for they will enjoy the fruit of their deeds.(Y)
11 Woe to the wicked!(Z)
Disaster(AA) is upon them!
They will be paid back(AB)
for what their hands have done.(AC)
12 Youths(AD) oppress my people,
women rule over them.
My people, your guides lead you astray;(AE)
they turn you from the path.
13 The Lord takes his place in court;(AF)
he rises to judge(AG) the people.
14 The Lord enters into judgment(AH)
against the elders and leaders of his people:
“It is you who have ruined my vineyard;
the plunder(AI) from the poor(AJ) is in your houses.
15 What do you mean by crushing my people(AK)
and grinding(AL) the faces of the poor?”(AM)
declares the Lord, the Lord Almighty.(AN)
16 The Lord says,
“The women of Zion(AO) are haughty,
walking along with outstretched necks,(AP)
flirting with their eyes,
strutting along with swaying hips,
with ornaments jingling on their ankles.
17 Therefore the Lord will bring sores on the heads of the women of Zion;
the Lord will make their scalps bald.(AQ)”
18 In that day(AR) the Lord will snatch away their finery: the bangles and headbands and crescent necklaces,(AS) 19 the earrings and bracelets(AT) and veils,(AU) 20 the headdresses(AV) and anklets and sashes, the perfume bottles and charms, 21 the signet rings and nose rings,(AW) 22 the fine robes and the capes and cloaks,(AX) the purses 23 and mirrors, and the linen garments(AY) and tiaras(AZ) and shawls.
24 Instead of fragrance(BA) there will be a stench;(BB)
instead of a sash,(BC) a rope;
instead of well-dressed hair, baldness;(BD)
instead of fine clothing, sackcloth;(BE)
instead of beauty,(BF) branding.(BG)
25 Your men will fall by the sword,(BH)
your warriors in battle.(BI)
26 The gates(BJ) of Zion will lament and mourn;(BK)
destitute,(BL) she will sit on the ground.(BM)

3 For, behold, the Lord, the Lord of hosts, doth take away from Jerusalem and from Judah the stay and the staff, the whole stay of bread, and the whole stay of water.
2 The mighty man, and the man of war, the judge, and the prophet, and the prudent, and the ancient,
3 The captain of fifty, and the honourable man, and the counsellor, and the cunning artificer, and the eloquent orator.
4 And I will give children to be their princes, and babes shall rule over them.
5 And the people shall be oppressed, every one by another, and every one by his neighbour: the child shall behave himself proudly against the ancient, and the base against the honourable.
6 When a man shall take hold of his brother of the house of his father, saying, Thou hast clothing, be thou our ruler, and let this ruin be under thy hand:
7 In that day shall he swear, saying, I will not be an healer; for in my house is neither bread nor clothing: make me not a ruler of the people.
8 For Jerusalem is ruined, and Judah is fallen: because their tongue and their doings are against the Lord, to provoke the eyes of his glory.
9 The shew of their countenance doth witness against them; and they declare their sin as Sodom, they hide it not. Woe unto their soul! for they have rewarded evil unto themselves.
10 Say ye to the righteous, that it shall be well with him: for they shall eat the fruit of their doings.
11 Woe unto the wicked! it shall be ill with him: for the reward of his hands shall be given him.
12 As for my people, children are their oppressors, and women rule over them. O my people, they which lead thee cause thee to err, and destroy the way of thy paths.
13 The Lord standeth up to plead, and standeth to judge the people.
14 The Lord will enter into judgment with the ancients of his people, and the princes thereof: for ye have eaten up the vineyard; the spoil of the poor is in your houses.
15 What mean ye that ye beat my people to pieces, and grind the faces of the poor? saith the Lord God of hosts.
16 Moreover the Lord saith, Because the daughters of Zion are haughty, and walk with stretched forth necks and wanton eyes, walking and mincing as they go, and making a tinkling with their feet:
17 Therefore the Lord will smite with a scab the crown of the head of the daughters of Zion, and the Lord will discover their secret parts.
18 In that day the Lord will take away the bravery of their tinkling ornaments about their feet, and their cauls, and their round tires like the moon,
19 The chains, and the bracelets, and the mufflers,
20 The bonnets, and the ornaments of the legs, and the headbands, and the tablets, and the earrings,
21 The rings, and nose jewels,
22 The changeable suits of apparel, and the mantles, and the wimples, and the crisping pins,
23 The glasses, and the fine linen, and the hoods, and the vails.
24 And it shall come to pass, that instead of sweet smell there shall be stink; and instead of a girdle a rent; and instead of well set hair baldness; and instead of a stomacher a girding of sackcloth; and burning instead of beauty.
25 Thy men shall fall by the sword, and thy mighty in the war.
26 And her gates shall lament and mourn; and she being desolate shall sit upon the ground.
