Jeremiah 5:28-29
New International Version
28 and have grown fat(A) and sleek.
Their evil deeds have no limit;
they do not seek justice.
They do not promote the case of the fatherless;(B)
they do not defend the just cause of the poor.(C)
29 Should I not punish them for this?”
declares the Lord.
“Should I not avenge(D) myself
on such a nation as this?

28 (A)they have grown fat and sleek.
They know no bounds in deeds of evil;
(B)they judge not with justice
the cause of the fatherless, to make it prosper,
and they do not defend the rights of the needy.
29 (C)Shall I not punish them for these things?
declares the Lord,
and shall I not avenge myself
on a nation such as this?”

and yet they prosper.
They are indifferent to the plight of the orphan,
reluctant to defend the rights of the poor.
29 Shouldn’t I punish such acts?
declares the Lord.
Shouldn’t I repay that nation for its deeds?

28 and prosperous,
but you refuse to help[a] the poor
get the justice they deserve.
29 You need to be punished,
and so I will take revenge.
