Jeremiah 4:5-9
New American Standard Bible
5 Declare in Judah and proclaim in Jerusalem, and say,
“(A)Blow the trumpet in the land;
Cry aloud and say,
‘(B)Assemble, and let’s go
Into the fortified cities.’
6 Raise a (C)flag toward Zion!
Take refuge, do not stand still,
For I am bringing (D)evil from the north,
And great destruction.
7 A (E)lion has gone up from his thicket,
And a (F)destroyer of nations has set out;
He has gone out from his place
To (G)make your land a waste.
Your cities will be ruins,
Without an inhabitant.
8 For this, (H)put on sackcloth,
Mourn and wail;
For the (I)fierce anger of the Lord
Has not turned away from us.”
9 “And it shall come about on that day,” declares the Lord, “that the (J)heart of the king and the hearts of the leaders will fail; and the priests will tremble, and the (K)prophets will be astonished.”

An Invasion from the North
5 Declare in Judah and proclaim in Jerusalem and say,
“Blow a horn through the land,
call with a loud voice[a] and say,
‘Be gathered and let us go into the fortified cities.’
6 Lift up a signal toward Zion,
bring yourselves to safety; you must not remain standing,
for I am bringing evil from the north,
and a great destruction.
7 A lion has gone up from his thicket,
and a destroyer of nations has set out.
He has gone out from his place to make your land as a horror,
your cities will go to ruin without[b] inhabitant.
8 Because of this gird yourselves with sackcloth,[c] lament and wail,
for the burning anger[d] of Yahweh has not turned back from us.
9 And then on that day,” declares[e] Yahweh,
“the heart of the king and the heart of the officials will be destroyed,
and the priests will be appalled,
and the prophets will be astonished.”
