y se convertirá en un montón de ruinas;
sus villas serán incendiadas.
Entonces Israel despojará de todo
a los que de todo la despojaron»,
afirma el Señor.
3 «¡Gime, Hesbón, porque Hai ha sido destruida!
¡Griten, hijas de Rabá!
¡Vístanse de luto y hagan lamentación;
y dices: “¿Quién me atacará?”.
¿no te dejarían algunas uvas?
Si de noche te llegaran ladrones,
¿no se llevarían solo lo que desean?
10 Pero yo despojaré por completo a Esaú;
pondré a descubierto sus escondites,
y no podrá ocultarse.
Sus hijos, parientes y vecinos,
serán destruidos y dejarán de existir.
11 ¡Abandona a tus huérfanos,
16 Tú, que habitas en las hendiduras de las rocas;
y de sus ciudades vecinas;
nadie volverá a habitar allí,
20 Por eso, escuchen el plan que el Señor ha diseñado contra Edom;
Serán arrastrados los más pequeños del rebaño;
21 Tiembla la tierra por el estruendo de su caída;
24 Damasco desfallece;
26 Por eso, sus jóvenes quedarán tendidos en las calles;
«¡Vamos, ataquen a Cedar!
bienes y camellos.
La gente les gritará:
“¡El terror está por todas partes!”.
30 »¡Huyan, habitantes de Jazor!
Escapen ya, escóndanse
en lo más profundo de la tierra»,
afirma el Señor.
«Nabucodonosor, rey de Babilonia,
maquina planes contra ustedes;
contra ustedes ha diseñado un plan.
31 »¡Levántense y ataquen a esta nación indolente
que vive del todo confiada,
nación que no tiene puertas ni cerrojos
y que vive muy aislada!»,
afirma el Señor.
32 «Sus camellos serán el botín,
y su numeroso ganado, el despojo.
Dispersaré a los cuatro vientos a los que se rapan las sienes;
«Voy a quebrar el arco de Elam;
y no quedará nación alguna
adonde no lleguen sus desterrados.
37 Aterraré a Elam frente a sus enemigos,
frente a los que atentan contra su vida;
Jeremiah 49
English Standard Version
Judgment on Ammon
49 (A)Concerning the Ammonites.
Thus says the Lord:
“Has Israel no sons?
Has he no heir?
Why then has (B)Milcom[a] (C)dispossessed Gad,
and his people settled in its cities?
2 Therefore, behold, the days are coming,
declares the Lord,
when I will cause (D)the battle cry to be heard
against (E)Rabbah of the Ammonites;
it shall become a desolate (F)mound,
and its villages shall be burned with fire;
then Israel shall dispossess those who dispossessed him,
says the Lord.
3 “Wail, O (G)Heshbon, for Ai is laid waste!
Cry out, O daughters of (H)Rabbah!
(I)Put on sackcloth,
lament, and run to and fro among the hedges!
For (J)Milcom shall go into exile,
(K)with his priests and his officials.
4 Why do you boast of your valleys,[b]
(L)O faithless daughter,
(M)who trusted in her treasures, saying,
‘Who will come against me?’
5 Behold, (N)I will bring terror upon you,
declares the Lord God of hosts,
from all who are around you,
and you shall be driven out, every man straight before him,
with none to gather the fugitives.
6 “But (O)afterward I will restore the fortunes of the Ammonites, declares the Lord.”
Judgment on Edom
7 Concerning (P)Edom.
Thus says the Lord of hosts:
(Q)“Is wisdom no more in (R)Teman?
(S)Has counsel perished from the prudent?
(T)Has their wisdom vanished?
8 (U)Flee, turn back, dwell in the depths,
O inhabitants of (V)Dedan!
For I will bring the calamity of Esau upon him,
(W)the time when I punish him.
9 (X)If grape gatherers came to you,
would they not leave (Y)gleanings?
(Z)If thieves came by night,
would they not destroy only enough for themselves?
10 (AA)But I have stripped Esau bare;
(AB)I have uncovered his hiding places,
and he is not able to conceal himself.
His children are destroyed, and his brothers,
and his neighbors; and (AC)he is no more.
11 (AD)Leave your fatherless children; I will keep them alive;
(AE)and let your widows trust in me.”
12 For thus says the Lord: (AF)“If those who did not deserve to drink the cup must drink it, (AG)will you go unpunished? You shall not go unpunished, but you must drink. 13 (AH)For I have sworn by myself, declares the Lord, that (AI)Bozrah shall become (AJ)a horror, a taunt, a waste, and a curse, and all her cities shall be perpetual wastes.”
14 (AK)I have heard a message from the Lord,
and an envoy has been sent among the nations:
(AL)“Gather yourselves together and come against her,
and rise up for battle!
15 For behold, I will make you small among the nations,
despised among mankind.
16 The horror you inspire has deceived you,
and the pride of your heart,
you who live in the clefts of the rock,[c]
who hold the height of the hill.
Though you (AM)make your nest as high as the eagle's,
I will bring you down from there,
declares the Lord.
17 (AN)“Edom shall become a horror. (AO)Everyone who passes by it will be horrified (AP)and will hiss because of all its disasters. 18 (AQ)As when Sodom and Gomorrah and their (AR)neighboring cities were overthrown, says the Lord, (AS)no man shall dwell there, (AT)no man shall sojourn in her. 19 (AU)Behold, (AV)like a lion coming up from (AW)the jungle of the Jordan against a perennial pasture, I will suddenly make him[d] run away from her. And I will appoint over her whomever I choose. (AX)For who is like me? (AY)Who will summon me? (AZ)What shepherd can stand before me? 20 Therefore hear the plan that the Lord has made against (BA)Edom and the purposes that he has formed against the inhabitants of (BB)Teman: (BC)Even the little ones of the flock shall be dragged away. Surely their fold shall be appalled at their fate. 21 At the sound of their fall (BD)the earth shall tremble; the sound of their cry shall be heard at the Red Sea. 22 Behold, (BE)one shall mount up and fly swiftly like an eagle and spread his wings against (BF)Bozrah, and the heart of the warriors of Edom shall be in that day like the heart (BG)of a woman in her birth pains.”
Judgment on Damascus
23 Concerning (BH)Damascus:
(BI)“Hamath and (BJ)Arpad are confounded,
for they have heard bad news;
they melt in fear,
(BK)they are troubled like the sea that cannot be quiet.
24 (BL)Damascus has become feeble, (BM)she turned to flee,
and panic seized her;
anguish and sorrows have taken hold of her,
as (BN)of a woman in labor.
25 How is (BO)the famous city not forsaken,
the city of my joy?
26 (BP)Therefore her young men shall fall in her squares,
and all her soldiers shall be destroyed in that day,
declares the Lord of hosts.
27 And (BQ)I will kindle a fire in the wall of (BR)Damascus,
and it shall devour the strongholds of (BS)Ben-hadad.”
Judgment on Kedar and Hazor
28 Concerning (BT)Kedar and the kingdoms of Hazor that Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon struck down.
Thus says the Lord:
(BU)“Rise up, advance against (BV)Kedar!
Destroy (BW)the people of the east!
29 (BX)Their tents and their flocks shall be taken,
their (BY)curtains and all their goods;
their camels shall be led away from them,
and men shall cry to them: (BZ)‘Terror on every side!’
30 (CA)Flee, wander far away, dwell in the depths,
O inhabitants of Hazor!
declares the Lord.
For Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon
has made a plan against you
and formed a purpose against you.
31 (CB)“Rise up, advance against a nation (CC)at ease,
(CD)that dwells securely,
declares the Lord,
(CE)that has no gates or bars,
that dwells alone.
32 (CF)Their camels shall become plunder,
their herds of livestock a spoil.
(CG)I will scatter to every wind
(CH)those who cut the corners of their hair,
and I will bring their calamity
from every side of them,
declares the Lord.
33 Hazor shall become (CI)a haunt of jackals,
an everlasting waste;
(CJ)no man shall dwell there;
(CK)no man shall sojourn in her.”
Judgment on Elam
34 The word of the Lord that came to Jeremiah the prophet concerning (CL)Elam, in the beginning of the reign of (CM)Zedekiah king of Judah.
35 Thus says the Lord of hosts: “Behold, I will break (CN)the bow of (CO)Elam, the mainstay of their might. 36 And I will bring upon (CP)Elam the four winds from the four quarters of heaven. And I will scatter them to all those winds, and there shall be no nation to which those driven out of (CQ)Elam shall not come. 37 I will (CR)terrify (CS)Elam before their enemies and before those who seek their life. I will bring disaster upon them, (CT)my fierce anger, declares the Lord. (CU)I will send the sword after them, until I have consumed them, 38 and I will set my throne in (CV)Elam and destroy their king and officials, declares the Lord.
39 “But in the latter days (CW)I will restore the fortunes of (CX)Elam, declares the Lord.”

49 1 The word of the Lord against the Ammonites, 7 Edom, 23 Damascus, 28 Kedar, 34 and Elam.
1 Unto the children of [a]Ammon thus saith the Lord, Hath Israel no sons? or hath he none heir? Why then hath their king [b]possessed Gad? and his people dwelt in [c]his cities?
2 Therefore behold, the days come, saith the Lord, that I will cause a noise of war to be heard in [d]Rabbah of the Ammonites, and it shall be a desolate heap, and her daughters shall be burnt with fire: then shall Israel possess those that possessed him, saith the Lord.
3 Howl, O Heshbon, for Ai is wasted: cry ye daughters of Rabbah: gird you with sackcloth: mourn and run to and fro by the hedges: for their king shall go into captivity; and his Priests, and his Princes likewise.
4 Wherefore gloriest thou in the [e]valleys? thy valley floweth away, O rebellious daughter: she trusted in her treasures, saying, Who shall come unto me?
5 Behold, I will bring [f]a fear upon thee, saith the Lord God of hosts, of all those that be about thee, and ye shall be scattered every man [g]right forth, and none shall gather him that fleeth.
6 And [h]afterward I will bring again the captivity of the children of Ammon.
7 ¶ To Edom thus saith the Lord of hosts, Is wisdom no more in [i]Teman? is counsel perished from their children? is their wisdom vanished?
8 Flee, ye inhabitants of Dedan ([j]they are turned back, and have consulted to dwell) for I have brought the destruction of Esau upon him, and the time of his visitation.
9 If the [k]grape gatherers come to thee, would they not leave some grapes? if thieves come by night, they will destroy till they have enough.
10 For I have discovered Esau: I have uncovered his secrets, and he shall not be able to hide himself: his seed is wasted, and his brethren and his neighbors, and there shall be none to say,
11 Leave thy [l]fatherless children, and I will preserve them alive, and let thy widows trust in me.
12 For thus saith the Lord, [m]Behold, they whose judgment was not to drink of the cup, have assuredly drunken, and art thou he that shall escape free? thou shalt not go free, but thou shalt surely drink of it.
13 For I have sworn by myself, saith the Lord, that [n]Bozrah shall be waste, and for a reproach, and a desolation, and a curse, and all the cities thereof shall be perpetual desolations.
14 I have heard a rumor from the Lord, and an ambassador is sent unto the heathen, saying, Gather you together, and come against [o]her, and rise up to the battle.
15 For lo, I will make thee but small among the heathen, and despised among men.
16 Thy [p]fear, and the pride of thine heart hath deceived thee, thou that dwellest in the clefts of the rock, and keepest the height of the hill: though thou shouldest make thy nest as high as the eagle, I will bring thee down from thence, saith the Lord.
17 Also Edom shall be desolate: everyone that goeth by it, shall be astonished, and shall hiss at all the plagues thereof,
18 As in the overthrow of Sodom and of Gomorrah, and the places thereof near about, saith the Lord: no man shall dwell there, neither shall the sons of men remain in it.
19 Behold, [q]he shall come up like a lion from the swelling of Jordan unto the strong dwelling place: for I will make Israel to rest, even I will make [r]him to haste away from her, and who is a chosen man that I may appoint against her? for who is like me? and who will appoint me the time? and who is the [s]shepherd that will stand before me?
20 Therefore hear the counsel of the Lord that he hath devised against Edom, and his purpose that he hath conceived, against the inhabitants of Teman: surely the least [t]of the flock shall draw them out: surely [u]he shall make their habitations desolate with them.
21 The earth is moved at the noise of their fall: the cry of their voice is heard in the red sea.
22 Behold, he shall come up, and fly as the eagle, [v]and spread his wings over Bozrah, and at that day shall the heart of the strong men of Edom be as the heart of a woman in travail.
23 ¶ Unto [w]Damascus he saith, Hamath is confounded and Arpad, for they have heard evil tidings, and they are faint hearted as one on the fearful sea that can not rest:
24 Damascus is discouraged, and turneth herself to flight, [x]and fear hath seized her: anguish and sorrows have taken her as a woman in travail.
25 How is the glorious [y]city not reserved, the city of my joy?
26 Therefore her young men shall fall in her streets, and all her men of war shall be cut off in that day, saith the Lord of hosts.
27 And I will kindle a fire in the wall of Damascus, which shall consume the palaces of [z]Ben-Hadad.
28 Unto [aa]Kedar, and to the kingdoms of Hazor, which Nebuchadnezzar king of Babel shall smite, thus saith the Lord, Arise, and go up unto Kedar, and destroy the men of the East.
29 Their tents and their flocks shall they take away: yea, they shall take to themselves their [ab]curtains and all their vessels, and their camels, and they shall cry unto them, Fear is on every side.
30 Flee, get you far off ([ac]they have consulted to dwell) O ye inhabitants of Hazor, saith the Lord: for Nebuchadnezzar king of Babel hath taken counsel against you, and hath devised a purpose against you.
31 [ad]Arise, and get you up unto the wealthy nation that dwelleth without care, saith the Lord, which have neither gates nor bars, but dwell alone.
32 And their camels shall be a bootie, and the multitude of their cattle a spoil, and I will scatter them into all winds, and to the utmost corners, and I will bring their destruction from all the sides thereof, saith the Lord.
33 And Hazor shall be a dwelling for dragons, and desolation forever: there shall no man dwell there, nor the sons of men remain in it.
34 ¶ The words of the Lord that came to Jeremiah the Prophet, concerning [ae]Elam, in the beginning of the reign of Zedekiah king of Judah, saying,
35 Thus saith the Lord of hosts, Behold, I will break the [af]bow of Elam, even the chief of their strength.
36 And upon Elam I will bring the four winds from the four quarters of heaven, and will scatter them towards all these winds, and there shall be no nation, whither the fugitives of Elam shall not come.
37 For I will cause Elam to be afraid before their enemies, and before them that seek their lives, and will bring upon them a plague, even the indignation of my wrath, saith the Lord, and I will send the sword after them, till I have consumed them.
38 And I will set my [ag]throne in Elam, and I will destroy both the king and the princes from thence, saith the Lord: but [ah]in the latter days I will bring again the captivity of Elam, saith the Lord.
