Yirmeyah 47
Orthodox Jewish Bible
47 The Devar Hashem that came to Yirmeyah HaNavi against the Pelishtim (Philistines), before Pharaoh smote Azah (Gaza).
2 Thus saith Hashem: Hinei, waters rise up out of the north, and shall be an overflowing flood, and shall overflow the land, and all that is therein; the Ir, and them that dwell therein; then the adam shall cry, and all the inhabitants of the land shall wail.
3 At the noise of the stamping of the hooves of his mighty steeds, at the rushing of his chariots, and at the rumbling of his wheels, the avot shall not look back to their banim for the limpness of their hands;
4 Because of the Yom HaBah for destroying all the Pelishtim (Philistines), and to cut off from Tzor and Tzidon every helper that remaineth; for Hashem will destroy the Pelishtim (Philistines), the remnant of the coast of Caphtor.
5 The shaved head has come upon Azah (Gaza); Ashkelon is silenced. Remnant of their valley, how long wilt thou cut thyself?
6 O thou cherev Hashem, how long will it be until thou be quiet? Put up thyself into thy scabbard, rest, and be still.
7 How can it be quiet, seeing Hashem hath given it a charge against Ashkelon, and against the sea coast? There hath He appointed it.

Judgment on Philistia
47 The word of the Lord that came to Jeremiah the prophet (A)against the Philistines, (B)before Pharaoh attacked Gaza.
2 Thus says the Lord:
“Behold, (C)waters rise (D)out of the north,
And shall be an overflowing flood;
They shall overflow the land and all that is in it,
The city and those who dwell within;
Then the men shall cry,
And all the inhabitants of the land shall wail.
3 At the (E)noise of the stamping hooves of his strong horses,
At the rushing of his chariots,
At the rumbling of his wheels,
The fathers will not look back for their children,
[a]Lacking courage,
4 Because of the day that comes to plunder all the (F)Philistines,
To cut off from (G)Tyre and Sidon every helper who remains;
For the Lord shall plunder the Philistines,
(H)The remnant of the country of (I)Caphtor.[b]
5 (J)Baldness has come upon Gaza,
(K)Ashkelon is cut off
With the remnant of their valley.
How long will you cut yourself?
6 “O you (L)sword of the Lord,
How long until you are quiet?
Put yourself up into your scabbard,
Rest and be still!
7 How can [c]it be quiet,
Seeing the Lord has (M)given it a charge
Against Ashkelon and against the seashore?
There He has (N)appointed it.”

2 “Thus says the Lord:
(C)Behold, waters are rising (D)out of the north,
(E)and shall become an overflowing torrent;
they shall overflow (F)the land and all that fills it,

Men shall cry out,
and every inhabitant of the land shall wail.
3 At the noise of the stamping of the hoofs of his stallions,
(G)at the rushing of his chariots, at the rumbling of their wheels,
the fathers (H)look not back to their children,
so feeble are their hands,
4 because of the day that is coming to destroy
all (I)the Philistines,
to cut off from (J)Tyre and Sidon
every helper that remains.
For the Lord is destroying the Philistines,
(K)the remnant of the coastland of (L)Caphtor.
5 (M)Baldness has come upon Gaza;
(N)Ashkelon has perished.
O remnant of their valley,
(O)how long will you gash yourselves?
6 (P)Ah, sword of the Lord!
How long till you are quiet?
Put yourself into your scabbard;
rest and be still!
7 How can it[a] be quiet
(Q)when the Lord has given it a charge?
Against (R)Ashkelon and against the seashore
(S)he has appointed it.”
