Message to Baruch

45 This is the message which Jeremiah the prophet spoke to ^(A)Baruch the son of Neriah, when he had ^(B)written these words in a book ^[a]at Jeremiah’s dictation, in the ^(C)fourth year of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah, king of Judah, saying: ²“This is what the Lord, the God of Israel says to you, Baruch: ³‘You said, “Oh, woe to me! For the Lord has added grief to my pain; I am ^(D)weary with my groaning and have found no rest.”’ ⁴This is what you are to say to him: ‘This is what the Lord says: “Behold, ^(E)what I have built I am going to tear down, and what I have planted I am going to uproot, that is, all the people of the land.” ⁵But as for you, are you ^(F)seeking great things for yourself? Do not seek them; for behold, I am going to ^(G)bring disaster on all flesh,’ declares the Lord, ‘but I will ^(H)give your life to you as plunder in all the places where you may go.’”

Defeat of Pharaoh Foretold

46 That which came as the word of the Lord to Jeremiah the prophet ^(A)concerning the nations.

²To ^(B)Egypt, concerning the army of ^(C)Pharaoh Neco king of Egypt, which was by the river Euphrates at ^(D)Carchemish, which Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon defeated in the ^(E)fourth year of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah, king of Judah:

³“^(F)Set up the ^[a]buckler and shield,
And advance to the battle!
⁴Harness the horses,
And ^[b]mount the steeds,
Take your stand with helmets on!
^(G)Polish the spears,
Put on the ^(H)coats of armor!
⁵Why have I seen it?
They are terrified,
They are ^(I)retreating,
And their ^(J)warriors are defeated
And have taken refuge in flight,
Without facing back.
^[c]^(K)Terror is on every side!”
Declares the Lord.
⁶Let not the ^(L)swift man flee,
Nor the warrior escape.
In the north beside the river Euphrates
They have ^(M)stumbled and fallen.
⁷Who is this that ^(N)rises like the Nile,
Like the rivers whose waters surge?
⁸Egypt rises like the Nile,
And like the rivers whose waters surge;
And He has said, “I will ^(O)rise and cover that land;
I will ^(P)destroy the city and its inhabitants.”
⁹Go up, you horses, and ^[d]^(Q)drive wildly, you chariots,
So that the warriors may ^[e]march forward:
^[f]Cush and ^[g]^(R)Put, who handle the shield,
And the ^[h]^(S)Lydians, who handle and bend the bow.
¹⁰For ^(T)that day belongs to the Lord ^[i]God of armies,
A day of ^(U)vengeance, so as to avenge Himself on His foes;
And the ^(V)sword will devour and be satisfied,
And ^[j]drink its fill of their blood;
For there will be a ^(W)slaughter for the Lord ^[k]God of armies,
In the land of the north at the river Euphrates.
¹¹Go ^(X)up to Gilead and obtain balm,
^(Y)Virgin daughter of Egypt!
You have used many ^[l]remedies in vain;
There is ^(Z)no healing for you.
¹²The nations have heard of your ^(AA)shame,
And the earth is full of your ^(AB)cry of distress;
For one ^(AC)warrior has stumbled over ^[m]another,
And both of them have fallen down together.

¹³This is the ^[n]message which the Lord spoke to Jeremiah the prophet about the ^(AD)coming of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon to ^(AE)strike the land of Egypt:

¹⁴“Declare in Egypt and proclaim in ^(AF)Migdol,
Proclaim also in Memphis and ^(AG)Tahpanhes;
Say, ‘Take your stand and get yourself ready,
For the ^(AH)sword has devoured those around you.’
¹⁵Why have your ^(AI)powerful ones been cut down?
They do not stand because the Lord has ^(AJ)thrust them away.
¹⁶They have repeatedly ^(AK)stumbled;
Indeed, they have fallen, one against another.
Then they said, ‘Get up, and ^(AL)let’s go back
To our own people and our native land,
Away from the ^[o]^(AM)sword of the oppressor!’
¹⁷^[p]They shouted there, ‘Pharaoh king of Egypt is nothing but ^(AN)a big noise;
He has let the appointed time pass by!’
¹⁸As I live,” declares the ^(AO)King,
Whose name is the Lord of armies,
“One certainly shall come who is like ^(AP)Tabor among the mountains,
Or like ^(AQ)Carmel by the sea.
¹⁹Make your baggage ready for ^(AR)exile,
^(AS)Daughter living in Egypt,
For ^(AT)Memphis will become a desolation;
It will be destroyed and ^[q]deprived of inhabitants.
²⁰Egypt is a pretty ^(AU)heifer,
But a ^[r]horsefly is coming ^(AV)from the north—it is coming!
²¹Also her ^(AW)mercenaries in her midst
Are like fattened ^(AX)calves,
For they too have turned away and have fled together;
They did not stand their ground.
For the day of their disaster has come upon them,
The time of their ^(AY)punishment.
²²Its sound moves along like a serpent;
For they move on ^[s]like an army
And come to her as woodcutters with axes.
²³They have cut down her ^(AZ)forest,” declares the Lord;
“Certainly it will no longer be found,
Even though ^[t]they are more numerous than ^(BA)locusts
And are without number.
²⁴The daughter of Egypt has been put to shame,
Turned over to the ^[u]power of the ^(BB)people of the north.”

²⁵The Lord of armies, the God of Israel says: “Behold, I am going to punish Amon of ^(BC)Thebes, and ^(BD)Pharaoh, and Egypt along with her ^(BE)gods and her kings, indeed, Pharaoh and those who ^(BF)trust in him. ²⁶I shall hand them over to those who are ^(BG)seeking their lives, that is, to Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon and to his ^[v]officers. ^(BH)Afterward, however, it will be inhabited as in the days of old,” declares the Lord.

²⁷“But as for you, Jacob My servant, ^(BI)do not fear,
Nor be dismayed, Israel!
For, see, I am going to ^(BJ)save you from far away,
And your descendants from the land of their captivity;
And Jacob will return and be ^(BK)undisturbed
And secure, with no one making him afraid.
²⁸Jacob My servant, do not fear,” declares the Lord,
“For ^(BL)I am with you.
For I will make a complete destruction of all the nations
Where I have driven you,
Yet I will ^(BM)not make a complete destruction of you;
But I will ^(BN)correct you properly
And by no means leave you unpunished.”

Prophecy against Philistia

47 The word of the Lord that came to Jeremiah the prophet concerning the ^(A)Philistines, before Pharaoh ^[a]conquered ^(B)Gaza. ²This is what the Lord says:

“Behold, waters are going to rise from ^(C)the north
And become an overflowing torrent,
And ^(D)overflow the land and everything that is in it,
The city and those who live in it;
And the people will ^(E)cry out,
And every inhabitant of the land will wail.
³Because of the noise of the ^[b]^(F)galloping hoofs of his ^[c]stallions,
The roar of his chariots, and the rumbling of his wheels,
The fathers have not turned back for their children,
Because of the debility of their hands,
⁴Because of the day that is coming
To ^(G)destroy all the Philistines,
To eliminate from ^(H)Tyre and Sidon
Every surviving ally;
For the Lord is going to destroy the Philistines,
The remnant of the coastland of ^(I)Caphtor.
⁵^(J)Baldness has come upon Gaza;
^(K)Ashkelon has been destroyed.
Remnant of their valley,
How long will you ^(L)gash yourself?
⁶Ah, ^(M)sword of the Lord,
How long will you not be quiet?
Withdraw into your sheath;
Rest and stay still.
⁷How can ^[d]it be quiet,
When the Lord has ^(N)given it an order?
Against Ashkelon and against the sea shore—
There He has ^(O)summoned it.”

The Lord’s Wonderful Works in Behalf of Israel.

105 ^(A)Give thanks to the Lord, ^(B)call upon His name;
^(C)Make His deeds known among the peoples.
²Sing to Him, ^(D)sing praises to Him;
^[a]^(E)Tell of all His ^[b]wonders.
³Boast in His holy name;
May the ^(F)heart of those who seek the Lord be joyful.
⁴Seek the Lord and ^(G)His strength;
^(H)Seek His face continually.
⁵Remember His ^[c]^(I)wonders which He has done,
His marvels and the ^(J)judgments ^[d]spoken by His mouth,
⁶You ^[e]descendants of ^(K)Abraham, His servant,

¹²When they were only a ^(V)few people in number,
Very few, and ^(W)strangers in it.
¹³And they wandered from nation to nation,
From one kingdom to another people,
¹⁴He ^(X)allowed no one to oppress them,
And He ^[g]^(Y)rebuked kings for their sakes, saying,
¹⁵“^(Z)Do not touch My anointed ones,
And do not harm My prophets.”

¹⁶And He ^(AA)called for a famine upon the land;
He ^(AB)broke the whole staff of bread.
¹⁷He ^(AC)sent a man before them,
Joseph, who was ^(AD)sold as a slave.
¹⁸They forced his ^(AE)feet into shackles,
^[h]He was put in irons;
¹⁹Until the time that his ^(AF)word came to pass,
The word of the Lord ^(AG)refined him.
²⁰The ^(AH)king sent and released him,
The ruler of peoples, and set him free.
²¹He ^(AI)made him lord of his house,
And ruler over all his possessions,

That he might teach his elders wisdom.
²³^(AK)Israel also came into Egypt;
So Jacob ^(AL)lived in the land of Ham.

To ^(AO)deal cunningly with His servants.
²⁶He ^(AP)sent His servant Moses,

And miracles in the land of Ham.
²⁸He ^(AS)sent darkness and made it dark;
And they did not ^(AT)rebel against His words.
²⁹He ^(AU)turned their waters into blood,
And caused their fish to die.

Even in the ^(AW)chambers of their kings.
³¹He spoke, and a ^(AX)swarm of flies
And ^(AY)gnats invaded all their territory.

And flaming fire in their land.

And smashed the trees of their territory.

And creeping locusts, beyond number,
³⁵And they ate all the vegetation in their land,
And ate the fruit of their ground.

And among His tribes there was not one who stumbled.

For the ^(BG)dread of them had fallen upon ^[n]the Egyptians.
³⁹He spread out a ^(BH)cloud as a ^[o]covering,
And ^(BI)fire to illumine by night.
⁴⁰^[p]They ^(BJ)asked, and He brought ^(BK)quail,
And satisfied them with the ^[q]^(BL)bread of heaven.
⁴¹He opened the ^[r]rock and ^(BM)water flowed out;
^[s]It ran in the dry places like a river.
⁴²For He ^(BN)remembered His holy word
With His servant Abraham;
⁴³And He led out His people with joy,
His chosen ones with a joyful ^(BO)shout.
⁴⁴He also ^(BP)gave them the lands of the ^[t]nations,
So that they ^(BQ)might take possession of the fruit of the peoples’ labor,
⁴⁵And that they might ^(BR)keep His statutes
And comply with His laws;

John 21

Jesus Appears at the Sea of Galilee

21 After these things Jesus ^[a]^(A)revealed Himself ^(B)again to the disciples at the ^(C)Sea of Tiberias, and He revealed Himself in this way: ²Simon Peter, ^(D)Thomas who was called ^[b]Didymus, ^(E)Nathanael of ^(F)Cana in Galilee, ^(G)the sons of Zebedee, and two others of His disciples were together. ³Simon Peter *said to them, “I am going fishing.” They *said to him, “We are also coming with you.” They went out and got into the boat; and ^(H)that night they caught nothing.

⁴But when the day was now breaking, Jesus stood on the beach; yet the disciples did not ^(I)know that it was Jesus. ⁵So Jesus *said to them, “Children, ^(J)you do not have any fish to eat, do you?” They answered Him, “No.” ⁶And He said to them, “^(K)Cast the net on the right-hand side of the boat, and you will find the fish.” So they cast it, and then they were not able to haul it in because of the great quantity of fish. ⁷^(L)Therefore that disciple whom Jesus loved *said to Peter, “It is the Lord!” So when Simon Peter heard that it was the Lord, he put on his outer garment (for he was stripped for work), and threw himself into the sea. ⁸But the other disciples came in the little boat, for they were not far from the land, but about ^[c]two hundred cubits away, dragging the net full of fish.

⁹So when they got out on the land, they *saw a charcoal ^(M)fire already ^[d]made and ^(N)fish placed on it, and bread. ¹⁰Jesus *said to them, “Bring some of the ^(O)fish which you have now caught.” ¹¹So Simon Peter went up and hauled the net to land, full of large fish, 153; and although there were so many, the net was not torn.

Jesus Provides

¹²Jesus *said to them, “Come and have ^(P)breakfast.” None of the disciples ventured to inquire of Him, “Who are You?” knowing that it was the Lord. ¹³Jesus *came and *took ^(Q)the bread and *gave it to them, and the ^(R)fish likewise. ¹⁴This was now the ^(S)third time that Jesus revealed Himself to the disciples, after He was raised from the dead.

The Love Question

¹⁵Now when they had ^(T)finished breakfast, Jesus *said to Simon Peter, “Simon, son of John, do you ^[e]^(U)love Me more than these?” He *said to Him, “Yes, Lord; You know that I ^[f]love You.” He *said to him, “Tend ^(V)My lambs.” ¹⁶He *said to him again, a second time, “Simon, son of John, do you ^[g]love Me?” He *said to Him, “Yes, Lord; You know that I ^[h]love You.” He *said to him, “^(W)Shepherd My sheep.” ¹⁷He *said to him the third time, “Simon, son of John, do you ^[i]love Me?” Peter was ^[j]hurt because He said to him ^(X)the third time, “Do you ^[k]love Me?” And he said to Him, “Lord, ^(Y)You know all things; You know that I ^[l]love You.” Jesus *said to him, “^(Z)Tend My sheep.

Our Times Are in His Hand

¹⁸Truly, truly I tell you, when you were younger, you used to put on your belt and walk wherever you wanted; but when you grow old, you will stretch out your hands and someone else will put your belt on you, and bring you where you do not want to go.” ¹⁹Now He said this, ^(AA)indicating by ^(AB)what kind of death he would glorify God. And when He had said this, He *said to him, “^(AC)Follow Me!”

²⁰Peter turned around and *saw the ^(AD)disciple whom Jesus loved following them—the one who also had ^(AE)leaned back on His chest at the supper and said, “Lord, who is the one who is betraying You?” ²¹So Peter, upon seeing him, *said to Jesus, “Lord, and what about this man?” ²²Jesus *said to him, “If I want him to remain ^(AF)until I come, what is that to you? You ^(AG)follow Me!” ²³Therefore this ^[m]account went out among ^(AH)the brothers, that that disciple would not die; yet Jesus did not say to him that he would not die, but only, “If I want him to remain ^(AI)until I come, what is that to you?”

²⁴This is the disciple who ^(AJ)is testifying about these things and wrote these things, and we know that his testimony is true.

²⁵But there are also ^(AK)many other things which Jesus did, which, if they were written in detail, I expect that even the world itself would not contain the books that would be written.
