² “This is what the Lord Almighty, the God of Israel, says: You saw the great disaster^(A) I brought on Jerusalem and on all the towns of Judah.^(B) Today they lie deserted and in ruins^{(C) 3} because of the evil^(D) they have done. They aroused my anger^(E) by burning incense^(F) to and worshiping other gods^(G) that neither they nor you nor your ancestors^(H) ever knew.

⁸ Why arouse my anger with what your hands have made,^(A) burning incense^(B) to other gods in Egypt,^(C) where you have come to live?^(D) You will destroy yourselves and make yourselves a curse^[a] and an object of reproach^(E) among all the nations on earth.
