18 Moreover, Jeremiah said to King Zedekiah, “(A)In what way have I sinned against you or against your servants or against this people, that you have put me in prison? 19 (B)Where then are your prophets who prophesied to you, saying, ‘The (C)king of Babylon will not come against you or against this land’? 20 But now, please listen, O my lord the king; please let my (D)supplication [a]come before you, and do not make me return to the house of Jonathan the scribe, that I may not die there.” 21 Then King Zedekiah gave commandment, and they committed Jeremiah to the (E)court of the guard and gave him a loaf of (F)bread daily from the bakers’ street, until all the bread in the city had (G)come to an end. So Jeremiah remained in the court of the guard.

18 Then Jeremiah asked King Zedekiah, “What offense have I committed against you, your officials, or these people that you have put me in prison? 19 Where are your prophets who prophesied to you, telling you: ‘The king of Babylon won’t come against you or against this land’? 20 Now, please listen, your majesty,[a] and pay attention to what I’m asking you. Don’t make me go back to the house of Jonathan the scribe, so I don’t die there.”

21 So King Zedekiah gave the order, and they assigned Jeremiah to the courtyard of the guard. Each day they gave him a loaf of bread from the bakers’ street until all the bread in the city was gone. So Jeremiah remained in the courtyard of the guard.
