Jeremiah replied, “The word of the Lord came to me: Watch! Hanamel, the son of your uncle Shallum, is coming to you to say, ‘Buy my field in Anathoth(A) for yourself, for you own the right of redemption(B) to buy it.’

“Then, as the Lord had said, my cousin Hanamel came to the guard’s courtyard and urged me, ‘Please buy my field in Anathoth in the land of Benjamin, for you own the right of inheritance and redemption. Buy it for yourself.’ Then I knew that this was the word of the Lord. So I bought the field in Anathoth from my cousin Hanamel, and I weighed out the silver to him(C)—seventeen shekels[a] of silver. 10 I recorded it on a scroll,(D) sealed it, called in witnesses, and weighed out the silver on the scales. 11 I took the purchase agreement—the sealed copy with its terms and conditions and the open copy— 12 and gave the purchase agreement to Baruch(E) son of Neriah, son of Mahseiah. I did this in the sight of my cousin[b] Hanamel, the witnesses who had signed the purchase agreement, and all the Judeans sitting in the guard’s courtyard.

Jeremiah replied, “This message from the Lord came to me: ‘Look, Hanamel, your cousin,[a] is coming to you and will say, “Buy my field in Anathoth for yourself, because the right of redemption to buy it belongs to you.”’

“Then my cousin Hanamel came to me in the courtyard of the guard just as the Lord had said, and he told me, ‘Please buy my field in Anathoth in the territory of Benjamin because you have the right to possess it, and the right to redeem it belongs to you. Buy it for yourself.’ So I knew that this was a message from the Lord.

“Then I bought the field in Anathoth from my cousin Hanamel. I weighed out the silver for him—seventeen shekels[b] of silver. 10 I signed the deed and sealed it. I called in witnesses and used scales to weigh out the silver. 11 Then I took the deed of purchase—both the sealed one[c] with the terms and conditions and the open one[d] 12 and I gave the deed of purchase to Neriah’s son Baruch, the grandson of Mahseiah, in the presence of my cousin Hanamel, in the presence of the witnesses who signed the deed of purchase, and in the presence of all the Judeans sitting in the courtyard of the guard.
