⁹ I will make them abhorrent^(A) and an offense to all the kingdoms of the earth, a reproach and a byword,^(B) a curse^[a](C) and an object of ridicule, wherever I banish^(D) them. ¹⁰ I will send the sword,^(E) famine^(F) and plague^(G) against them until they are destroyed from the land I gave to them and their ancestors.^(H)’”

¹⁸ This is what the Lord Almighty, the God of Israel, says: ‘As my anger and wrath^(A) have been poured out on those who lived in Jerusalem,^(B) so will my wrath be poured out on you when you go to Egypt. You will be a curse^[a](C) and an object of horror,^(D) a curse^[b] and an object of reproach;^(E) you will never see this place again.’^(F)

⁸ Why arouse my anger with what your hands have made,^(A) burning incense^(B) to other gods in Egypt,^(C) where you have come to live?^(D) You will destroy yourselves and make yourselves a curse^[a] and an object of reproach^(E) among all the nations on earth. ⁹ Have you forgotten the wickedness committed by your ancestors^(F) and by the kings^(G) and queens^(H) of Judah and the wickedness committed by you and your wives^(I) in the land of Judah and the streets of Jerusalem?^{(J) 10} To this day they have not humbled^(K) themselves or shown reverence,^(L) nor have they followed my law^(M) and the decrees^(N) I set before you and your ancestors.^(O)

¹¹ “Therefore this is what the Lord Almighty,^(P) the God of Israel, says: I am determined to bring disaster^(Q) on you and to destroy all Judah. ¹² I will take away the remnant^(R) of Judah who were determined to go to Egypt to settle there. They will all perish in Egypt; they will fall by the sword or die from famine. From the least to the greatest,^(S) they will die by sword or famine.^(T) They will become a curse and an object of horror, a curse and an object of reproach.^(U)

¹⁴ “I will make you a ruin and a reproach among the nations around you, in the sight of all who pass by.^{(A) 15} You will be a reproach^(B) and a taunt, a warning^(C) and an object of horror to the nations around you when I inflict punishment on you in anger and in wrath and with stinging rebuke.^(D) I the Lord have spoken.^{(E) 16} When I shoot at you with my deadly and destructive arrows of famine, I will shoot to destroy you. I will bring more and more famine upon you and cut off your supply of food.^{(F) 17} I will send famine and wild beasts^(G) against you, and they will leave you childless. Plague and bloodshed^(H) will sweep through you, and I will bring the sword against you. I the Lord have spoken.^(I)”

⁴ you have become guilty because of the blood you have shed^(A) and have become defiled by the idols you have made. You have brought your days to a close, and the end of your years has come.^(B) Therefore I will make you an object of scorn^(C) to the nations and a laughingstock to all the countries.^(D)
