⁸ “People from many nations will pass by this city and will ask one another, ‘Why has the Lord done such a thing to this great city?’^{(A) 9} And the answer will be: ‘Because they have forsaken the covenant of the Lord their God and have worshiped and served other gods.^(B)’”

²² When the Lord could no longer endure^(A) your wicked actions and the detestable things you did, your land became a curse^(B) and a desolate waste^(C) without inhabitants, as it is today.^(D)

¹⁸ So I poured out^(A) my wrath on them because they had shed blood in the land and because they had defiled it with their idols. ¹⁹ I dispersed them among the nations, and they were scattered^(B) through the countries; I judged them according to their conduct and their actions.^(C)
