Jeremiah 20:7-13
Christian Standard Bible
Jeremiah Compelled to Preach
7 You deceived(A) me, Lord, and I was deceived.
You seized me and prevailed.
I am a laughingstock all the time;(B)
everyone ridicules me.
8 For whenever I speak, I cry out,
I proclaim, “Violence and destruction!” (C)
so the word of the Lord has become my
constant disgrace and derision.
9 I say, “I won’t mention him
or speak any longer in his name.”(D)
But his message becomes a fire burning in my heart,(E)
shut up in my bones.
I become tired of holding it in,(F)
and I cannot prevail.
10 For I have heard the gossip of many people,
“Terror is on every side!(G)
Report him; let’s report him!”
Everyone I trusted[a] watches for my fall.(H)
“Perhaps he will be deceived
so that we might prevail against him
and take our vengeance on him.”
11 But the Lord is with me like a violent warrior.(I)
Therefore, my persecutors will stumble and not prevail.
Since they have not succeeded, they will be utterly shamed,
an everlasting humiliation that will never be forgotten.(J)
12 Lord of Armies, testing the righteous
and seeing the heart[b] and mind,
let me see your vengeance on them,
for I have presented my case to you.(K)
13 Sing to the Lord!
Praise the Lord,
for he rescues the life of the needy
from evil people.
Ephesians 1:17-19

17 I pray that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father,[a] would give you the Spirit[b](A) of wisdom and revelation(B) in the knowledge of him. 18 I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened so that you may know what is the hope(C) of his calling,(D) what is the wealth of his glorious inheritance in the saints, 19 and what is the immeasurable greatness of his power(E) toward us who believe, according to the mighty working of his strength.
