But I protested, “Oh no, Lord God! Look, I don’t know how to speak(A) since I am only a youth.”(B)

Then the Lord said to me:

Do not say, “I am only a youth,”(C)
for you will go to everyone I send you to
and speak whatever I tell you.(D)
Do not be afraid of anyone,(E)
for I will be with you to rescue you.(F)
This is the Lord’s declaration.

Then the Lord reached out his hand, touched my mouth,(G) and told me:

I have now filled your mouth with my words.(H)
10 See, I have appointed you today
over nations and kingdoms
to uproot and tear down,
to destroy and demolish,(I)
to build and plant.(J)

I replied, “Ah, Lord God! Look, I don’t know how to speak, because I’m only[a] a young man.”

Then the Lord told me, “Don’t say, ‘I’m only[b] a young man,’ for you will go everywhere I send you, and you will speak everything I command you. Don’t be afraid of them, because I am with you to deliver you,” declares the Lord.

The Lord stretched out his hand, touched my mouth, and then told me, “Look, I’ve put my words in your mouth. 10 See, today I’ve appointed you to prophesy about nations and kingdoms, to pull up and tear down, to destroy and overthrow, to build and to plant.”
