¹¹ For as the loincloth clings to the waist of a man, so I made the whole house of Israel and the whole house of Judah cling to me, declares the Lord, ^(A)that they might be for me a people, ^(B)a name, a praise, and a glory, but they would not listen.

^9 (A)And this city^[a] shall be to me a name of joy, a praise and a glory before all the nations of the earth who shall hear of all the good that I do for them. They shall ^(B)fear and tremble because of all the good and all the prosperity I provide for it.

⁵ Now therefore, if you will indeed obey my voice and keep my covenant, you shall be ^(A)my treasured possession among all peoples, for ^(B)all the earth is mine; ⁶ and you shall be to me a ^(C)kingdom of priests and ^(D)a holy nation.’ These are the words that you shall speak to the people of Israel.”

⁹ But you are ^(A)a chosen race, ^(B)a royal ^(C)priesthood, ^(D)a holy nation, ^(E)a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you ^(F)out of darkness into ^(G)his marvelous light.

³⁷ And the Father who sent me ^(A)has himself borne witness about me. His voice you have never heard, ^(B)his form you have never seen, ³⁸ and ^(C)you do not have his word abiding in you, for you do not believe the one whom he has sent. ^39 (D)You search the Scriptures because you think that in them you have eternal life; and ^(E)it is they that bear witness about me, ⁴⁰ yet ^(F)you refuse to come to me that you may have life.

²⁰ You have shown ^(A)signs and wonders in the land of Egypt, and to this day in Israel and among all mankind, ^(B)and have made a name for yourself, as at this day.

¹⁰ This evil people, who refuse to hear my words, ^(A)who stubbornly follow their own heart and have gone after other gods to serve them and worship them, shall be like this loincloth, which is ^(B)good for nothing.
