¹² Upon all the bare heights^[a] in the desert,
    spoilers have come,
for the sword of the Lord devours
    from one end of the land to the other;
    no one shall be safe.^(A)

¹⁸ If I go out into the field,
    look—those killed by the sword!
And if I enter the city,
    look—those sick with^[a] famine!
For both prophet and priest ply their trade throughout the land
    and have no knowledge.^(A)

¹⁰ For I hear many whispering:
    “Terror is all around!
Denounce him! Let us denounce him!”
    All my close friends
    are watching for me to stumble.
“Perhaps he can be enticed,
    and we can prevail against him
    and take our revenge on him.”^(A)
