Jeremiah 6:27-30
Holman Christian Standard Bible
Jeremiah Appointed as an Examiner
27 I have appointed you to be an assayer among My people—
a refiner[a]—
so you may know and assay their way of life.(A)
28 All are stubborn rebels
spreading slander.(B)
They are bronze and iron;
all of them are corrupt.(C)
29 The bellows blow,
blasting the lead with fire.
The refining is completely in vain;
the evil ones are not separated out.
30 They are called rejected silver,
for the Lord has rejected them.(D)

Common English Bible
Prophet as tester
27 I have made you a tester of metals,
to examine my people[a]
to know and prove their ways.
28 They are tin[b] and iron;
they are headstrong and rebellious.
They live to slander.
They act corruptly—every last one!
29 The bellows roar;
the lead is consumed.[c]
Yet the refining fails;
the impurities[d] remain.
30 They are called “rejected silver,”
for the Lord has rejected them.
