24 Damascus has become feeble; she has turned to flee, and terror and panic have seized her; anguish and sorrow have taken hold of her, like a woman in childbirth.

25 How [remarkable that] the renowned city is not deserted, the city of my joy! [exclaims one from Damascus].

26 Therefore her young men shall fall in her streets, and all her soldiers shall be destroyed in that day, says the Lord of hosts.(A)

    pain like that of a woman in labor.(A)
25 Why has the city of renown not been abandoned,
    the town in which I delight?
26 Surely, her young men(B) will fall in the streets;
    all her soldiers will be silenced(C) in that day,”
declares the Lord Almighty.
