Holman Christian Standard Bible
God’s Sign to the People in Egypt
8 Then the word of the Lord came to Jeremiah at Tahpanhes: 9 “Pick up some large stones and set them in the mortar of the brick pavement that is at the opening of Pharaoh’s palace at Tahpanhes. Do this in the sight of the Judean men 10 and tell them: This is what the Lord of Hosts, the God of Israel, says: I will send for My servant Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, and I will place his throne on these stones that I have embedded, and he will pitch his pavilion over them. 11 He will come and strike down the land of Egypt(A)—those destined for death, to death; those destined for captivity, to captivity; and those destined for the sword,(B) to the sword. 12 I[a] will kindle a fire in the temples of Egypt’s gods,(C) and he will burn them and take them prisoner. He will clean the land of Egypt as a shepherd picks lice off[b] his garment,(D) and he will leave there unscathed. 13 He will smash the sacred pillars of the sun temple[c][d] in the land of Egypt and burn down the temples of the Egyptian gods.”

Common English Bible
8 The Lord’s word came to Jeremiah in Tahpanhes: 9 Take some large stones and set them in the clay pavement[a] in front of Pharaoh’s palace in Tahpanhes while the people of Judah are watching. 10 After that, say to the people: The Lord of heavenly forces, the God of Israel, proclaims: I’m sending for my servant King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon, who[b] will set his throne over these stones and will spread his canopy over them. 11 He will come and ravage the land of Egypt:
those marked for disaster, to disaster,
and those marked for exile, to exile.
and those marked for war, to war.
12 He will set on fire[c] the temples of the Egyptian gods. He will burn them down and carry off their gods. He will wrap the land of Egypt around himself, just as a shepherd wraps[d] his garment around himself, and he will move on unharmed.[e] 13 He will shatter the sacred pillars in the temple of the sun in Egypt and burn down the temples of the Egyptian gods.

8 In Tahpanhes(A) the word of the Lord came to Jeremiah: 9 “While the Jews are watching, take some large stones(B) with you and bury them in clay in the brick(C) pavement at the entrance to Pharaoh’s palace(D) in Tahpanhes. 10 Then say to them, ‘This is what the Lord Almighty, the God of Israel, says: I will send for my servant(E) Nebuchadnezzar(F) king of Babylon, and I will set his throne(G) over these stones I have buried here; he will spread his royal canopy(H) above them. 11 He will come and attack Egypt,(I) bringing death(J) to those destined(K) for death, captivity to those destined for captivity,(L) and the sword to those destined for the sword.(M) 12 He will set fire(N) to the temples(O) of the gods(P) of Egypt; he will burn their temples and take their gods captive.(Q) As a shepherd picks(R) his garment clean of lice, so he will pick Egypt clean and depart. 13 There in the temple of the sun[a](S) in Egypt he will demolish the sacred pillars(T) and will burn down the temples of the gods of Egypt.’”
