Sorrow for the Doomed Nation

19 O my (A)soul, my soul!
I am pained in my very heart!
My heart makes a noise in me;
I cannot hold my peace,
Because you have heard, O my soul,
The sound of the trumpet,
The alarm of war.
20 (B)Destruction upon destruction is cried,
For the whole land is plundered.
Suddenly (C)my tents are plundered,
And my curtains in a moment.
21 How long will I see the [a]standard,
And hear the sound of the trumpet?

22 “For My people are foolish,
They have not known Me.
They are [b]silly children,
And they have no understanding.
(D)They are wise to do evil,
But to do good they have no knowledge.”

23 (E)I beheld the earth, and indeed it was (F)without form, and void;
And the heavens, they had no light.
24 (G)I beheld the mountains, and indeed they trembled,
And all the hills moved back and forth.
25 I beheld, and indeed there was no man,
And (H)all the birds of the heavens had fled.
26 I beheld, and indeed the fruitful land was a (I)wilderness,
And all its cities were broken down
At the presence of the Lord,
By His fierce anger.

27 For thus says the Lord:

“The whole land shall be desolate;
(J)Yet I will not make a full end.
28 For this (K)shall the earth mourn,
And (L)the heavens above be black,
Because I have spoken.
I have (M)purposed and (N)will not relent,
Nor will I turn back from it.
29 The whole city shall flee from the noise of the horsemen and bowmen.
They shall go into thickets and climb up on the rocks.
Every city shall be forsaken,
And not a man shall dwell in it.

30 “And when you are plundered,
What will you do?
Though you clothe yourself with crimson,
Though you adorn yourself with ornaments of gold,
(O)Though you enlarge your eyes with paint,
In vain you will make yourself fair;
(P)Your lovers will despise you;
They will seek your life.

31 “For I have heard a voice as of a woman in [c]labor,
The anguish as of her who brings forth her first child,
The voice of the daughter of Zion bewailing herself;
She (Q)spreads her hands, saying,
‘Woe is me now, for my soul is [d]weary
Because of murderers!’

The Justice of God’s Judgment

“Run to and fro through the streets of Jerusalem;
See now and know;
And seek in her open places
(R)If you can find a man,
(S)If there is anyone who executes [e]judgment,
Who seeks the truth,
(T)And I will pardon her.
(U)Though they say, ‘As (V)the Lord lives,’
Surely they (W)swear falsely.”

O Lord, are not (X)Your eyes on the truth?
You have (Y)stricken them,
But they have not grieved;
You have consumed them,
But (Z)they have refused to receive correction.
They have made their faces harder than rock;
They have refused to return.

Therefore I said, “Surely these are poor.
They are foolish;
For (AA)they do not know the way of the Lord,
The judgment of their God.
I will go to the great men and speak to them,
For (AB)they have known the way of the Lord,
The judgment of their God.”

But these have altogether (AC)broken the yoke
And burst the bonds.
Therefore (AD)a lion from the forest shall slay them,
(AE)A wolf of the deserts shall destroy them;
(AF)A leopard will watch over their cities.
Everyone who goes out from there shall be torn in pieces,
Because their transgressions are many;
Their backslidings have increased.

“How shall I pardon you for this?
Your children have forsaken Me
And (AG)sworn by those (AH)that are not gods.
(AI)When I had fed them to the full,
Then they committed adultery
And assembled themselves by troops in the harlots’ houses.
(AJ)They were like well-fed lusty stallions;
Every one neighed after his neighbor’s wife.
Shall I not punish them for these things?” says the Lord.
“And shall I not (AK)avenge Myself on such a nation as this?

10 “Go up on her walls and destroy,
But do not [f]make a (AL)complete end.
Take away her branches,
For they are not the Lord’s.
11 For (AM)the house of Israel and the house of Judah
Have dealt very treacherously with Me,” says the Lord.

12 (AN)They have lied about the Lord,
And said, (AO)It is not He.
(AP)Neither will [g]evil come upon us,
Nor shall we see sword or famine.
13 And the prophets become wind,
For the word is not in them.
Thus shall it be done to them.”

14 Therefore thus says the Lord God of hosts:

“Because you speak this word,
(AQ)Behold, I will make My words in your mouth fire,
And this people wood,
And it shall devour them.
15 Behold, I will bring a (AR)nation against you (AS)from afar,
O house of Israel,” says the Lord.
“It is a mighty nation,
It is an ancient nation,
A nation whose language you do not know,
Nor can you understand what they say.
16 Their quiver is like an open tomb;
They are all mighty men.
17 And they shall eat up your (AT)harvest and your bread,
Which your sons and daughters should eat.
They shall eat up your flocks and your herds;
They shall eat up your vines and your fig trees;
They shall destroy your fortified cities,
In which you trust, with the sword.

18 “Nevertheless in those days,” says the Lord, “I (AU)will not [h]make a complete end of you. 19 And it will be when you say, (AV)‘Why does the Lord our God do all these things to us?’ then you shall answer them, ‘Just as you have (AW)forsaken Me and served foreign gods in your land, so (AX)you shall serve aliens in a land that is not yours.’

20 “Declare this in the house of Jacob
And proclaim it in Judah, saying,
21 ‘Hear this now, O (AY)foolish people,
Without [i]understanding,
Who have eyes and see not,
And who have ears and hear not:
22 (AZ)Do you not fear Me?’ says the Lord.
‘Will you not tremble at My presence,
Who have placed the sand as the (BA)bound of the sea,
By a perpetual decree, that it cannot pass beyond it?
And though its waves toss to and fro,
Yet they cannot prevail;
Though they roar, yet they cannot pass over it.
23 But this people has a defiant and rebellious heart;
They have revolted and departed.
24 They do not say in their heart,
“Let us now fear the Lord our God,
(BB)Who gives rain, both the (BC)former and the latter, in its season.
(BD)He reserves for us the appointed weeks of the harvest.”
25 (BE)Your iniquities have turned these things away,
And your sins have withheld good from you.

26 ‘For among My people are found wicked men;
They (BF)lie in wait as one who sets snares;
They set a trap;
They catch men.
27 As a cage is full of birds,
So their houses are full of deceit.
Therefore they have become great and grown rich.
28 They have grown (BG)fat, they are sleek;
Yes, they [j]surpass the deeds of the wicked;
They do not plead (BH)the cause,
The cause of the fatherless;
(BI)Yet they prosper,
And the right of the needy they do not defend.
29 (BJ)Shall I not punish them for these things?’ says the Lord.
‘Shall I not avenge Myself on such a nation as this?’

30 “An astonishing and (BK)horrible thing
Has been committed in the land:
31 The prophets prophesy (BL)falsely,
And the priests rule by their own power;
And My people (BM)love to have it so.
But what will you do in the end?

Impending Destruction from the North

“O you children of Benjamin,
Gather yourselves to flee from the midst of Jerusalem!
Blow the trumpet in Tekoa,
And set up a signal-fire in (BN)Beth Haccerem;
(BO)For disaster appears out of the north,
And great destruction.
I have likened the daughter of Zion
To a lovely and delicate woman.
The (BP)shepherds with their flocks shall come to her.
They shall pitch their tents against her all around.
Each one shall pasture in his own place.”

“Prepare(BQ) war against her;
Arise, and let us go up (BR)at noon.
Woe to us, for the day goes away,
For the shadows of the evening are lengthening.
Arise, and let us go by night,
And let us destroy her palaces.”

For thus has the Lord of hosts said:

“Cut down trees,
And build a mound against Jerusalem.
This is the city to be punished.
She is full of oppression in her midst.
(BS)As a fountain [k]wells up with water,
So she wells up with her wickedness.
(BT)Violence and plundering are heard in her.
Before Me continually are [l]grief and wounds.
Be instructed, O Jerusalem,
Lest (BU)My soul depart from you;
Lest I make you desolate,
A land not inhabited.”

Thus says the Lord of hosts:

“They shall thoroughly glean as a vine the remnant of Israel;
As a grape-gatherer, put your hand back into the branches.”

10 To whom shall I speak and give warning,
That they may hear?
Indeed their (BV)ear is uncircumcised,
And they cannot give heed.
Behold, (BW)the word of the Lord is a reproach to them;
They have no delight in it.
11 Therefore I am full of the fury of the Lord.
(BX)I am weary of holding it in.
“I will pour it out (BY)on the children outside,
And on the assembly of young men together;
For even the husband shall be taken with the wife,
The aged with him who is full of days.
12 And (BZ)their houses shall be turned over to others,
Fields and wives together;
For I will stretch out My hand
Against the inhabitants of the land,” says the Lord.
13 “Because from the least of them even to the greatest of them,
Everyone is given to (CA)covetousness;
And from the prophet even to the (CB)priest,
Everyone deals falsely.
14 They have also (CC)healed the [m]hurt of My people [n]slightly,
(CD)Saying, ‘Peace, peace!’
When there is no peace.
15 Were they (CE)ashamed when they had committed abomination?
No! They were not at all ashamed;
Nor did they know how to blush.
Therefore they shall fall among those who fall;
At the time I punish them,
They shall be cast down,” says the Lord.

19 Oh, my anguish, my anguish!(A)
    I writhe in pain.(B)
Oh, the agony of my heart!
    My heart pounds(C) within me,
    I cannot keep silent.(D)
For I have heard the sound of the trumpet;(E)
    I have heard the battle cry.(F)
20 Disaster follows disaster;(G)
    the whole land lies in ruins.(H)
In an instant my tents(I) are destroyed,
    my shelter in a moment.
21 How long must I see the battle standard(J)
    and hear the sound of the trumpet?(K)

22 “My people are fools;(L)
    they do not know me.(M)
They are senseless children;
    they have no understanding.(N)
They are skilled in doing evil;(O)
    they know not how to do good.”(P)

23 I looked at the earth,

and at the heavens,
    and their light(R) was gone.
24 I looked at the mountains,
    and they were quaking;(S)
    all the hills were swaying.
25 I looked, and there were no people;
    every bird in the sky had flown away.(T)
26 I looked, and the fruitful land was a desert;(U)
    all its towns lay in ruins(V)
    before the Lord, before his fierce anger.(W)

27 This is what the Lord says:

“The whole land will be ruined,(X)
    though I will not destroy(Y) it completely.
28 Therefore the earth will mourn(Z)
    and the heavens above grow dark,(AA)
because I have spoken and will not relent,(AB)
    I have decided and will not turn back.(AC)

29 At the sound of horsemen and archers(AD)
    every town takes to flight.(AE)
Some go into the thickets;
    some climb up among the rocks.(AF)
All the towns are deserted;(AG)
    no one lives in them.

30 What are you doing,(AH) you devastated one?
    Why dress yourself in scarlet
    and put on jewels(AI) of gold?
Why highlight your eyes with makeup?(AJ)
    You adorn yourself in vain.
Your lovers(AK) despise you;
    they want to kill you.(AL)

31 I hear a cry as of a woman in labor,(AM)
    a groan as of one bearing her first child—
the cry of Daughter Zion(AN) gasping for breath,(AO)
    stretching out her hands(AP) and saying,
“Alas! I am fainting;
    my life is given over to murderers.”(AQ)

Not One Is Upright

“Go up and down(AR) the streets of Jerusalem,
    look around and consider,(AS)
    search through her squares.
If you can find but one person(AT)
    who deals honestly(AU) and seeks the truth,
    I will forgive(AV) this city.
Although they say, ‘As surely as the Lord lives,’(AW)
    still they are swearing falsely.(AX)

Lord, do not your eyes(AY) look for truth?
    You struck(AZ) them, but they felt no pain;
    you crushed them, but they refused correction.(BA)
They made their faces harder than stone(BB)
    and refused to repent.(BC)
I thought, “These are only the poor;
    they are foolish,(BD)
for they do not know(BE) the way of the Lord,
    the requirements of their God.
So I will go to the leaders(BF)
    and speak to them;
surely they know the way of the Lord,
    the requirements of their God.”
But with one accord they too had broken off the yoke
    and torn off the bonds.(BG)
Therefore a lion from the forest(BH) will attack them,
    a wolf from the desert will ravage(BI) them,
a leopard(BJ) will lie in wait near their towns
    to tear to pieces any who venture out,
for their rebellion is great
    and their backslidings many.(BK)

“Why should I forgive you?
    Your children have forsaken me
    and sworn(BL) by gods that are not gods.(BM)
I supplied all their needs,
    yet they committed adultery(BN)
    and thronged to the houses of prostitutes.(BO)
They are well-fed, lusty stallions,
    each neighing for another man’s wife.(BP)
Should I not punish them for this?”(BQ)
    declares the Lord.
“Should I not avenge(BR) myself
    on such a nation as this?

10 “Go through her vineyards and ravage them,
    but do not destroy them completely.(BS)
Strip off her branches,
    for these people do not belong to the Lord.
11 The people of Israel and the people of Judah
    have been utterly unfaithful(BT) to me,”
declares the Lord.

12 They have lied(BU) about the Lord;

13 The prophets(BX) are but wind(BY)
    and the word is not in them;
    so let what they say be done to them.”

14 Therefore this is what the Lord God Almighty says:

“Because the people have spoken these words,
    I will make my words in your mouth(BZ) a fire(CA)
    and these people the wood it consumes.(CB)
15 People of Israel,” declares the Lord,
    “I am bringing a distant nation(CC) against you—
an ancient and enduring nation,
    a people whose language(CD) you do not know,
    whose speech you do not understand.
16 Their quivers(CE) are like an open grave;
    all of them are mighty warriors.
17 They will devour(CF) your harvests and food,
    devour(CG) your sons and daughters;
they will devour(CH) your flocks and herds,
    devour your vines and fig trees.(CI)
With the sword(CJ) they will destroy
    the fortified cities(CK) in which you trust.(CL)

18 “Yet even in those days,” declares the Lord, “I will not destroy(CM) you completely. 19 And when the people ask,(CN) ‘Why has the Lord our God done all this to us?’ you will tell them, ‘As you have forsaken me and served foreign gods(CO) in your own land, so now you will serve foreigners(CP) in a land not your own.’

20 “Announce this to the descendants of Jacob
    and proclaim(CQ) it in Judah:
21 Hear this, you foolish and senseless people,(CR)
    who have eyes(CS) but do not see,
    who have ears but do not hear:(CT)
22 Should you not fear(CU) me?” declares the Lord.
    “Should you not tremble(CV) in my presence?
I made the sand a boundary for the sea,(CW)
    an everlasting barrier it cannot cross.
The waves may roll, but they cannot prevail;
    they may roar,(CX) but they cannot cross it.
23 But these people have stubborn and rebellious(CY) hearts;
    they have turned aside(CZ) and gone away.
24 They do not say to themselves,
    ‘Let us fear(DA) the Lord our God,
who gives autumn and spring rains(DB) in season,
    who assures us of the regular weeks of harvest.’(DC)
25 Your wrongdoings have kept these away;
    your sins have deprived you of good.(DD)

26 “Among my people are the wicked(DE)
    who lie in wait(DF) like men who snare birds
    and like those who set traps(DG) to catch people.
27 Like cages full of birds,
    their houses are full of deceit;(DH)
they have become rich(DI) and powerful
28     and have grown fat(DJ) and sleek.
Their evil deeds have no limit;
    they do not seek justice.
They do not promote the case of the fatherless;(DK)
    they do not defend the just cause of the poor.(DL)
29 Should I not punish them for this?”
    declares the Lord.
“Should I not avenge(DM) myself
    on such a nation as this?

30 “A horrible(DN) and shocking thing
    has happened in the land:
31 The prophets prophesy lies,(DO)
    the priests(DP) rule by their own authority,
and my people love it this way.
    But what will you do in the end?(DQ)

Jerusalem Under Siege

“Flee for safety, people of Benjamin!
    Flee from Jerusalem!
Sound the trumpet(DR) in Tekoa!(DS)
    Raise the signal over Beth Hakkerem!(DT)
For disaster looms out of the north,(DU)
    even terrible destruction.
I will destroy Daughter Zion,(DV)
    so beautiful and delicate.(DW)
Shepherds(DX) with their flocks will come against her;
    they will pitch their tents around(DY) her,
    each tending his own portion.”

“Prepare for battle against her!
    Arise, let us attack at noon!(DZ)
But, alas, the daylight is fading,
    and the shadows of evening grow long.
So arise, let us attack at night
    and destroy her fortresses!”

This is what the Lord Almighty says:

“Cut down the trees(EA)
    and build siege ramps(EB) against Jerusalem.
This city must be punished;
    it is filled with oppression.(EC)
As a well pours out its water,
    so she pours out her wickedness.
Violence(ED) and destruction(EE) resound in her;
    her sickness and wounds are ever before me.
Take warning, Jerusalem,
    or I will turn away(EF) from you
and make your land desolate
    so no one can live in it.”

This is what the Lord Almighty says:

“Let them glean the remnant(EG) of Israel
    as thoroughly as a vine;
pass your hand over the branches again,
    like one gathering grapes.”

10 To whom can I speak and give warning?
    Who will listen(EH) to me?
Their ears are closed[a](EI)
    so they cannot hear.(EJ)
The word(EK) of the Lord is offensive to them;
    they find no pleasure in it.
11 But I am full of the wrath(EL) of the Lord,
    and I cannot hold it in.(EM)

“Pour it out on the children in the street
    and on the young men(EN) gathered together;
both husband and wife will be caught in it,
    and the old, those weighed down with years.(EO)
12 Their houses will be turned over to others,(EP)
    together with their fields and their wives,(EQ)
when I stretch out my hand(ER)
    against those who live in the land,”
declares the Lord.
13 “From the least to the greatest,
    all(ES) are greedy for gain;(ET)
prophets and priests alike,
    all practice deceit.(EU)
14 They dress the wound of my people
    as though it were not serious.
‘Peace, peace,’ they say,
    when there is no peace.(EV)
15 Are they ashamed of their detestable conduct?
    No, they have no shame at all;
    they do not even know how to blush.(EW)
So they will fall among the fallen;
    they will be brought down when I punish(EX) them,”
says the Lord.

  1. Jeremiah 6:10 Hebrew uncircumcised

18 And (A)He is the head of the body, the church, who is the beginning, (B)the firstborn from the dead, that in all things He may have the preeminence.

Reconciled in Christ

19 For it pleased the Father that (C)in Him all the fullness should dwell, 20 and (D)by Him to reconcile (E)all things to Himself, by Him, whether things on earth or things in heaven, (F)having made peace through the blood of His cross.

21 And you, (G)who once were alienated and enemies in your mind (H)by wicked works, yet now He has (I)reconciled 22 (J)in the body of His flesh through death, (K)to present you holy, and blameless, and above reproach in His sight— 23 if indeed you continue (L)in the faith, grounded and steadfast, and are (M)not moved away from the hope of the gospel which you heard, (N)which was preached to every creature under heaven, (O)of which I, Paul, became a minister.

Sacrificial Service for Christ

24 (P)I now rejoice in my sufferings (Q)for you, and fill up in my flesh (R)what is lacking in the afflictions of Christ, for (S)the sake of His body, which is the church, 25 of which I became a minister according to (T)the [a]stewardship from God which was given to me for you, to fulfill the word of God, 26 (U)the [b]mystery which has been hidden from ages and from generations, (V)but now has been revealed to His saints. 27 (W)To them God willed to make known what are (X)the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles: [c]which is (Y)Christ in you, (Z)the hope of glory. 28 Him we preach, (AA)warning every man and teaching every man in all wisdom, (AB)that we may present every man perfect in Christ Jesus. 29 To this end I also labor, striving according to His working which works in me (AC)mightily.

Not Philosophy but Christ

For I want you to know what a great (AD)conflict[d] I have for you and those in Laodicea, and for as many as have not seen my face in the flesh, that their hearts may be encouraged, being knit together in love, and attaining to all riches of the full assurance of understanding, to the knowledge of the mystery of God, [e]both of the Father and of Christ, (AE)in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.

Now this I say (AF)lest anyone should deceive you with persuasive words. For (AG)though I am absent in the flesh, yet I am with you in spirit, rejoicing [f]to see (AH)your good order and the (AI)steadfastness of your faith in Christ.

(AJ)As you therefore have received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in Him, (AK)rooted and built up in Him and established in the faith, as you have been taught, abounding [g]in it with thanksgiving.

21 Once you were alienated from God and were enemies(K) in your minds(L) because of[a] your evil behavior. 22 But now he has reconciled(M) you by Christ’s physical body(N) through death to present you(O) holy in his sight, without blemish and free from accusation(P) 23 if you continue(Q) in your faith, established(R) and firm, and do not move from the hope(S) held out in the gospel. Paul’s Labor for the Church

24 Now I rejoice(V) in what I am suffering for you, and I fill up in my flesh what is still lacking in regard to Christ’s afflictions,(W) for the sake of his body, which is the church.(X) 25 I have become its servant(Y) by the commission God gave me(Z) to present to you the word of God(AA) in its fullness— 26 the mystery(AB) that has been kept hidden for ages and generations, but is now disclosed to the Lord’s people. 27 To them God has chosen to make known(AC) among the Gentiles the glorious riches(AD) of this mystery, which is Christ in you,(AE) the hope of glory.

28 He is the one we proclaim, admonishing(AF) and teaching everyone with all wisdom,(AG) so that we may present everyone fully mature(AH) in Christ. 29 To this end I strenuously(AI) contend(AJ) with all the energy Christ so powerfully works in me.(AK)

I want you to know how hard I am contending(AL) for you and for those at Laodicea,(AM) and for all who have not met me personally. My goal is that they may be encouraged in heart(AN) and united in love, so that they may have the full riches of complete understanding, in order that they may know the mystery(AO) of God, namely, Christ, in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.(AP) I tell you this so that no one may deceive you by fine-sounding arguments.(AQ) For though I am absent from you in body, I am present with you in spirit(AR) and delight to see how disciplined(AS) you are and how firm(AT) your faith in Christ(AU) is.

Spiritual Fullness in Christ

So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord,(AV) continue to live your lives in him, rooted(AW) and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught,(AX) and overflowing with thankfulness.

The Consoling Memory of God’s Redemptive Works

To the Chief Musician. (A)To Jeduthun. A Psalm of Asaph.

77 I cried out to God with my voice—
To God with my voice;
And He gave ear to me.
In the day of my trouble I sought the Lord;
My hand was stretched out in the night without ceasing;
My soul refused to be comforted.
I remembered God, and was troubled;
I complained, and my spirit was overwhelmed. Selah

You hold my eyelids open;
I am so troubled that I cannot speak.
I have considered the days of old,
The years of ancient times.
I call to remembrance my song in the night;
I meditate within my heart,
And my spirit [a]makes diligent search.

Will the Lord cast off forever?
And will He be favorable no more?
Has His mercy ceased forever?
Has His (B)promise failed [b]forevermore?
Has God forgotten to be gracious?
Has He in anger shut up His tender mercies? Selah

10 And I said, “This is my [c]anguish;
But I will remember the years of the right hand of the Most High.”
11 I will remember the works of the Lord;
Surely I will remember Your wonders of old.
12 I will also meditate on all Your work,
And talk of Your deeds.
13 Your way, O God, is in [d]the (C)sanctuary;
Who is so great a God as our God?
14 You are the God who does wonders;
You have declared Your strength among the peoples.
15 You have with Your arm redeemed Your people,
The sons of Jacob and Joseph. Selah

16 The waters saw You, O God;
The waters saw You, they were (D)afraid;
The depths also trembled.
17 The clouds poured out water;
The skies sent out a sound;
Your arrows also flashed about.
18 The voice of Your thunder was in the whirlwind;
The lightnings lit up the world;
The earth trembled and shook.
19 Your way was in the sea,
Your path in the great waters,
And Your footsteps were not known.
20 You led Your people like a flock
By the hand of Moses and Aaron.

Psalm 77[a]

For the director of music. For Jeduthun. Of Asaph. A psalm.

I cried out to God(A) for help;
    I cried out to God to hear me.
When I was in distress,(B) I sought the Lord;
    at night(C) I stretched out untiring hands,(D)
    and I would not be comforted.(E)

I remembered(F) you, God, and I groaned;(G)
    I meditated, and my spirit grew faint.[b](H)
You kept my eyes from closing;
    I was too troubled to speak.(I)
I thought about the former days,(J)
    the years of long ago;
I remembered my songs in the night.
    My heart meditated and my spirit asked:

“Will the Lord reject forever?(K)
    Will he never show his favor(L) again?
Has his unfailing love(M) vanished forever?
    Has his promise(N) failed for all time?
Has God forgotten to be merciful?(O)
    Has he in anger withheld his compassion?(P)

10 Then I thought, “To this I will appeal:
    the years when the Most High stretched out his right hand.(Q)
11 I will remember the deeds of the Lord;
    yes, I will remember your miracles(R) of long ago.
12 I will consider(S) all your works
    and meditate on all your mighty deeds.”(T)

13 Your ways, God, are holy.
    What god is as great as our God?(U)
14 You are the God who performs miracles;(V)
    you display your power among the peoples.
15 With your mighty arm you redeemed your people,(W)
    the descendants of Jacob and Joseph.

16 The waters(X) saw you, God,
    the waters saw you and writhed;(Y)
    the very depths were convulsed.
17 The clouds poured down water,(Z)
    the heavens resounded with thunder;(AA)
    your arrows(AB) flashed back and forth.
18 Your thunder was heard in the whirlwind,(AC)
    your lightning(AD) lit up the world;
    the earth trembled and quaked.(AE)
19 Your path(AF) led through the sea,(AG)
    your way through the mighty waters,
    though your footprints were not seen.

20 You led your people(AH) like a flock(AI)
    by the hand of Moses and Aaron.(AJ)
