16 The families of Rechab have obeyed their father completely, but you have refused to listen to me. 17 Therefore, the Lord Almighty, the God of Israel, says: Because you refuse to listen or answer when I call, I will send upon Judah and Jerusalem all the evil I have ever threatened.

18-19 Then Jeremiah turned to the Rechabites and said: “The Lord, the God of Israel, says that because you have obeyed your father in every respect, he shall always have descendants who will worship me.”

16 The descendants of Jehonadab son of Rekab have carried out the command their forefather(A) gave them, but these people have not obeyed me.’

17 “Therefore this is what the Lord God Almighty, the God of Israel, says: ‘Listen! I am going to bring on Judah and on everyone living in Jerusalem every disaster(B) I pronounced against them. I spoke to them, but they did not listen;(C) I called to them, but they did not answer.’”(D)

18 Then Jeremiah said to the family of the Rekabites, “This is what the Lord Almighty, the God of Israel, says: ‘You have obeyed the command of your forefather(E) Jehonadab and have followed all his instructions and have done everything he ordered.’
