² “Thus says Yahweh, the God of Israel, ‘^(A)Go and speak to Zedekiah king of Judah and say to him: “Thus says Yahweh, ‘Behold, ^(B)I am giving this city into the hand of the king of Babylon, and ^(C)he will burn it with fire.

The Walls of Jerusalem Torn Down

39 ^[a]Now when Jerusalem was captured ^[b](A)in the ninth year of Zedekiah king of Judah, in the tenth month, Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon and all his military force came to Jerusalem and laid siege to it; ² in the eleventh year of Zedekiah, in the fourth month, in the ninth day of the month, the city was ^(B)breached.

⁸ The Chaldeans also ^(A)burned with fire the house of the king and the houses of the people, and they ^(B)tore down the walls of Jerusalem.

⁷ Then the city was ^(A)breached, and all the ^(B)men of war fled and went forth from the city at night by way of the gate between the two walls which was by the king’s garden, though the Chaldeans were ^[a](C)all around the city. And they went by way of the Arabah.

¹³ And he ^(A)burned the house of Yahweh, the ^(B)king’s house, and all the houses of Jerusalem; even every large house he burned with fire.
