“For twenty-three years, (A)from the thirteenth year of Josiah the son of Amon, king of Judah, to this day, the word of the Lord has come to me, and I have spoken (B)persistently to you, (C)but you have not listened. (D)You have neither listened nor inclined your ears to hear, although the Lord (E)persistently sent to you all his servants the prophets, saying, (F)‘Turn now, every one of you, (G)from his evil way and evil deeds, and (H)dwell upon the land that the Lord has given to you and your fathers from of old and forever. (I)Do not go after other gods to serve and worship them, (J)or provoke me to anger (K)with the work of your hands. Then I will do you no harm.’ (L)Yet you have not listened to me, declares the Lord, (M)that you might provoke me to anger (N)with the work of your hands to your own harm.

“Therefore thus says the Lord of hosts: Because you have not obeyed my words, (O)behold, I will send for all the tribes of the north, declares the Lord, and for Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon, (P)my servant, and I will bring them against this land and its inhabitants, and against all these surrounding nations. I will devote them to destruction, (Q)and make them a horror, a hissing, and an everlasting desolation.

For twenty-three years—from the thirteenth year of Josiah(A) son of Amon king of Judah until this very day—the word of the Lord has come to me and I have spoken to you again and again,(B) but you have not listened.(C)

And though the Lord has sent all his servants the prophets(D) to you again and again, you have not listened or paid any attention.(E) They said, “Turn(F) now, each of you, from your evil ways and your evil practices, and you can stay in the land(G) the Lord gave to you and your ancestors for ever and ever. Do not follow other gods(H) to serve and worship them; do not arouse my anger with what your hands have made. Then I will not harm you.”

“But you did not listen to me,” declares the Lord, “and you have aroused(I) my anger with what your hands have made,(J) and you have brought harm(K) to yourselves.”

Therefore the Lord Almighty says this: “Because you have not listened to my words, I will summon(L) all the peoples of the north(M) and my servant(N) Nebuchadnezzar(O) king of Babylon,” declares the Lord, “and I will bring them against this land and its inhabitants and against all the surrounding nations. I will completely destroy[a](P) them and make them an object of horror and scorn,(Q) and an everlasting ruin.(R)
