Jeremiah 2:21-23
Christian Standard Bible
21 I planted you, a choice vine(A)
from the very best seed.
How then could you turn into
a degenerate, foreign vine?(B)
22 Even if you wash with lye
and use a great amount of bleach,[a](C)
the stain of your iniquity is still in front of me.(D)
This is the Lord God’s declaration.
23 How can you protest, “I am not defiled;
I have not followed the Baals”?(E)
Look at your behavior in the valley;
acknowledge what you have done.(F)
You are a swift young camel
twisting and turning on her way,

New International Version
21 I had planted(A) you like a choice vine(B)
of sound and reliable stock.
How then did you turn against me

and use an abundance of cleansing powder,
the stain of your guilt is still before me,”
declares the Sovereign Lord.(F)
23 “How can you say, ‘I am not defiled;(G)
I have not run after the Baals’?(H)
See how you behaved in the valley;(I)
consider what you have done.

running(J) here and there,
