Jeremiah 1:4-10
English Standard Version
The Call of Jeremiah
4 Now the word of the Lord came to me, saying,
5 (A)“Before I formed you in the womb I knew you,
and before you were born (B)I consecrated you;
I appointed you a prophet (C)to the nations.”
6 Then I said, “Ah, Lord God! Behold, (D)I do not know how to speak, (E)for I am only a youth.” 7 But the Lord said to me,
“Do not say, ‘I am only a youth’;
for to all to whom I send you, you shall go,
and (F)whatever I command you, you shall speak.
8 (G)Do not be afraid of them,
(H)for I am with you to deliver you,
declares the Lord.”
9 (I)Then the Lord put out his hand and (J)touched my mouth. And the Lord said to me,
“Behold, I have put (K)my words in your mouth.
10 See, I have set you this day (L)over nations and over kingdoms,
(M)to pluck up and to break down,
to destroy and to overthrow,
to build and to plant.”
Isaiah 6:5-8
English Standard Version
5 And I said: “Woe is me! (A)For I am lost; (B)for I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips; for my eyes have seen the (C)King, the Lord of hosts!”
6 Then one of the seraphim flew to me, having in his hand a burning coal that he had taken with tongs from the altar. 7 And he (D)touched my mouth and said: “Behold, this has touched your lips; your guilt is taken away, and your sin atoned for.”
Isaiah's Commission from the Lord
8 And I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send, and who will go for (E)us?” Then I said, “Here I am! Send me.”
