Jeremiah 15:15-21

¹⁵^(A)O Lord, you know;
    ^(B)remember me and visit me,
    ^(C)^(D)and take vengeance for me on my persecutors.
In your forbearance take me not away;
    ^(E)know that ^(F)for your sake I bear reproach.
¹⁶Your words were found, ^(G)and I ate them,
    and ^(H)your words became to me a joy
    and the delight of my heart,
^(I)for I am called by your name,
    O Lord, God of hosts.
¹⁷^(J)I did not sit in the company of revelers,
    nor did I rejoice;
^(K)I sat alone, because your hand was upon me,
    for you had filled me with indignation.
¹⁸Why is my pain unceasing,
    ^(L)my wound incurable,
    refusing to be healed?
Will you be to me ^(M)like a deceitful brook,
    like waters that fail?

¹⁹Therefore thus says the Lord:
^(N)“If you return, I will restore you,
    and you shall ^(O)stand before me.
If you utter what is precious, and not what is worthless,
    you shall be as my mouth.
They shall turn to you,
    but you shall not turn to them.
²⁰^(P)And I will make you to this people
    a fortified wall of bronze;
they will fight against you,
    ^(Q)but they shall not prevail over you,
^(R)for I am with you
    to save you and deliver you,
declares the Lord.
²¹^(S)I will deliver you out of the hand of the wicked,
    and redeem you from the grasp of ^(T)the ruthless.”

26 ^(A)Vindicate me, O Lord,
    for I have ^(B)walked in my integrity,
    and I have ^(C)trusted in the Lord without wavering.
²^(D)Prove me, O Lord, and try me;
    test my heart and ^(E)my mind.^[a]
³For your ^(F)steadfast love is before my eyes,
    and I ^(G)walk in your ^(H)faithfulness.

⁴I do not ^(I)sit with men of ^(J)falsehood,
nor do I consort with hypocrites.
⁵I ^(K)hate the assembly of evildoers,
and I will not sit with the wicked.

⁶I ^(L)wash my hands in innocence
and go around your altar, O Lord,
⁷proclaiming thanksgiving aloud,
and telling all your ^(M)wondrous deeds.

⁸O Lord, I ^(N)love the habitation of your house
    and the place where your glory dwells.
⁹^(O)Do not sweep my soul away with sinners,
    nor my life with bloodthirsty men,
¹⁰in whose hands are evil devices,
    and whose right hands are full of ^(P)bribes.

¹¹But as for me, I shall walk in my integrity;
redeem me, and be gracious to me.

A Living Sacrifice

12 ^(A)I appeal to you therefore, brothers,^[a] by the mercies of God, ^(B)to present your bodies ^(C)as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship.^[b] ²^(D)Do not be conformed to this world,^[c] but be transformed by ^(E)the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may ^(F)discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.^[d]

Gifts of Grace

³For ^(G)by the grace given to me I say to everyone among you ^(H)not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think, but to think with sober judgment, ^(I)each according to ^(J)the measure of faith that God has assigned. ⁴For ^(K)as in one body we have many members,^[e] and the members do not all have the same function, ⁵so we, ^(L)though many, ^(M)are one body in Christ, and individually ^(N)members one of another. ⁶^(O)Having gifts that differ according to the grace given to us, let us use them: if ^(P)prophecy, ^(Q)in proportion to our faith; ⁷if ^(R)service, in our serving; the one who teaches, in his teaching; ⁸the one who exhorts, in his exhortation; the one who contributes, in generosity; ^(S)the one who leads,^[f] with zeal; the one who does acts of mercy, with ^(T)cheerfulness.

Jesus Foretells His Death and Resurrection

²¹^(A)From that time Jesus began to show his disciples that ^(B)he must go to Jerusalem and ^(C)suffer many things from the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and on ^(D)the third day be raised. ²²And Peter took him aside and began to rebuke him, saying, “Far be it from you, Lord!^[a] This shall never happen to you.” ²³But he turned and said to Peter, ^(E)“Get behind me, Satan! You are ^(F)a hindrance^[b] to me. For you ^(G)are not setting your mind on the things of God, but on the things of man.”

Take Up Your Cross and Follow Jesus

²⁴Then Jesus told his disciples, “If anyone would come after me, let him ^(H)deny himself and ^(I)take up his cross and follow me. ²⁵For ^(J)whoever would save his life^[c] will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will find it. ²⁶For ^(K)what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world and forfeits his soul? Or ^(L)what shall a man give in return for his soul? ²⁷^(M)For the Son of Man is going to come with ^(N)his angels in the glory of his Father, and ^(O)then he will repay each person according to what he has done.
